I agree with the prophecy thing. But maybe there was a way to disregard it and re-inforce the hard-work plotline? Maybe Naruto could have outright rejected the idea of a prophecy later on and that could have been shown later on in the story that no one is really "destined" for power, you have to work hard for it.

Oh sure, there were ways to subvert the prophecy storyline that could’ve been written in. There were tons of ways around it. Like I said, subverting the prophecy by having Sasuke be the driving force for peace by Naruto’s side would’ve been just one way.

But the problem was that it wasn’t just Naruto’s destiny that was fulfilled. And this is what solidifies without a doubt that Naruto’s success was due to the prophecy.

Neji died protecting Hinata, just as he was “destined” to.

Neji’s entire character arc paralleled Naruto’s in Part 1 because he wanted to defy his destiny and prove that he didn’t have to die for the Main Branch. Naruto convinced him that he could fight his destiny, that his life would amount to more than just being a slave to the Hyugas to be disposed of at a whim. And he believed him. He focused his attention on training Hinata, on helping her to become a strong shinobi so that one day she could lead the clan and end the oppressive traditions of the Hyuga once and for all.

And in the end he died for the Main Branch and Hinata never even stepped up to lead the clan like he wanted. His destiny played out as he thought it would in Part 1. All of his character development and his dreams were cast aside.

And his death proved that one cannot fight destiny, not in the Narutoverse. And if Neji couldn’t fight his destiny, does that mean Naruto had any chance of losing in the end?

I hate when people get mad that rape is referred to as a “male crime” like we’re saying females never rape.
