“Foolish children, both of them. Now, perhaps binding magic would be better than chains...”
blackjacketmuses:
“That is the most bullshit thing I have ever heard from you yet, holy shit,” he says. “You were absolutely that bad.” Even so, he pauses, pondering the suggestion. “Okay, hm, that’s a thought. Consider it, like, Plan D or something.” He can’t believe he’s contemplating that. But.
“You’re the one that got us banned from the zoo, little brother.” Alright, maybe he’s somewhat responsible for that one. Somewhat. “...If any of your higher-priority plans include expecting them to listen to reason, scratch them off the list in advance. I’m going to go locate chains strong enough to hold them.”
blackjacketmuses:
“Yeah, even I realized it was a little ridiculous. We really were that bad.” You were too and he will never let you forget it. “Fair, yeah, we chewed through those like paper…maybe we can find like, demon kiddie leashes? Do they make those?” Do they…?
“You mean you were. I was less trouble.” Is he managing to say that with a straight face? Almost. “If they do, they’re more akin to chains. Which may not be a bad idea...”
blackjacketmuses:
“Holy shit, were we really that stupid when we were that a— wait, no, we were, stupid question. Do I gotta buy kiddie leashes for them or something?” Not that he doesn’t want to punch Mundus in the dick, but. Nope.
“I’m glad you caught yourself before you finished that question. As for the leashes... those failed to keep us in line as toddlers. Do you really think they’d do any good here?”

“Thank you! And…here we go! One movie, minus meddling friends and family.” She gave him a smile before settling into her own seat to watch with him. “Which I apologize about again.” She still wanted to strangle Mana and the others for thinking getting her drunk would change a thing.
“You can hardly control the actions of others,” Vergil said, dismissing her apology with a tired look and a lifted eyebrow. “Or should I apologize for everything Dante does?” If that were how it worked, he wasn’t sure he’d had time to ever do anything else. (And maybe that was being unkind to his brother, but still. She didn’t need to apologize.)
etosvitri:
“Actually,” Tallyn says, leaning back and already feeling a lot more at ease, now that he knows he’s not in trouble, “peace and quiet are exactly why I came over. My roommate has friends visiting, so my sister and I had to clear out for the day.” Stella took her truck and went for a drive, but he’s not going to mention that if he doesn’t have to–this guy doesn’t know it, but she’s still grounded, and he doesn’t feel like throwing her under the bus. “I know that sounds insane, but I’m used to the noise here, and I think it’d be creepier if a day went by where something didn’t explode.” Whether it be him accidentally starting a fire, or the electricity shutting off again, or someone (Patty, Lady, whoever) showing up to make Dante’s life hell. The chaos is familiar; it’s comforting.
“You don’t have to hang out, if you don’t want to,” he says, noting the other guy’s posture (and if awkward has a smell, this guy reeks of it). “I won’t be offended. Small talk fuckin’ sucks.” Even as he speaks the words, Tallyn thinks to himself that they may not have a choice. This guy (and his…brother? Friend? The other one) may not be allowed to leave the office. Which, in that case–that’s a little concerning, but more importantly means they have to make nice if they’re going to see a lot of each other. And, unlike his sister, Tallyn isn’t so ready to believe they’re being tossed aside, so he’s not planning to stop coming here anytime soon.
“If you can find this place relaxing, then far be it from me to stop you,” Vergil says, skeptical that it’s even possible but aware Tallyn is completely sincere in his sentiments. “Though as... energetic as the people here are, I suppose it isn’t without its charms.” For some people, at least. It’s certainly not neat and orderly and organized, so he can’t say he likes it all that much, but he knows there are people who thrive in chaos. (And a sister? He hopes she’s not a firestarter, or if she is at least not as nervous about it as her brother is.)
The offer to let him leave is kind, but Vergil shakes his head with a rueful half-smile. “I’ve nowhere else to go, I’m afraid. My brother and I and,” here he hesitates, because he’s still not entirely sure where he stands or where he will stand with Kat, “...our friend... are refugees, of sorts, and my circumstances in particular are complicated.” He won’t say he’s a prisoner, even if that’s technically what he is (at least in his own mind, it’s what his situation seems like), so this is as much of an explanation as he’s willing to give for himself. Anything else, Tallyn can ask elsewhere. “But I’ve no intention of bothering you, if you’d prefer not to interact.”
etosvitri:
The question gets an embarrassed laugh in response Oh, Tallyn has a pretty good idea of why his demonic power spiked all of a sudden, but this guy isn’t going to like the answer. Nor has he come up with a way to fix the problem yet. Still, lying or ignoring the question isn’t an option, not when the guy already looks about as mad as a wet cat.
“Nerves,” he says at last, shrugging and flopping down on the soot-stained couch. “I-It’s not a you problem, you haven’t done anything, I’m just–I’m kind of a nervous person, and…” He shrugs again, silently gesturing to the minor destruction he caused. It’s as far as he’ll go to admit to being less than human. Besides, this guy doesn’t need it spelled out for him. Tallyn’s sure he was sniffed out just as easily as he sniffed the two newcomers out, so there’s no dancing around the issue. “It’ll be fine,” he adds, “it’s honestly just nerves, so I’ll get over it.”
With the threat over, Vergil moves to lean against the wall, having no interest on sitting so close to the firestarter or in perching on a sooty couch. “If it’s nerves, then I suggest you do something to relax,” he says slowly, though he sighs and shakes his head. “Not that I’m the one to ask about that.” No, he thinks, it’s not like he knows how to relax --- he never has and never will, and he suspects the the way most of the people here would suggest wouldn’t go over too well with someone who would fall over himself from a little of Dante’s snarling.
“So long as you don’t think it will happen again, it doesn’t matter to me,” he adds, though that isn’t entirely true. He doesn’t like reminders of how much is outside of his control these days, and it looks like Tallyn’s... issue could be a very big reminder if this happens again. Vergil isn’t exactly in any mood to be social, either, but he’s aware that a certain amount of politeness is expected when one is a... guest (prisoner, more accurately, but he hasn’t called himself that where anyone can hear it, and for good reason) in someone else’s home. “Did you leave another book here?” He asks, prepared to engage in small talk if he needs to in order to distract both of them from the less-comfortable topics staring them both in the face. “You can’t have come here for peace and quiet.” Not a place with two Dantes. Peace and quiet can’t exist here, Vergil’s sure about that.
etosvitri:
If he weren’t too anxious to make noise in public, Tallyn would scream right now–in fright, in frustration at how his control’s been slipping lately, it doesn’t matter. He wants to yell, but there’s another person here, so the noise sticks in his throat and he tries instead not to give in to the temptation of destroying a pillow. He’ll reconsider that later–right now, there’s a fire to be smothered.
“Ah! I’m sorry, shit–” he says, leaping up to grab as many things as he can to put out the flames. “I dunno what happened, I wasn’t even thinking about doing anything?” Maybe his blood is throwing a tantrum? Maybe it’s grown a mind of its own and is rebelling against him? That’s a terrifying thought, and one Tallyn can’t afford to lose himself to while there’s still a larger problem. Namely: his home being on fire.
Luckily, the fire itself is small, and is quickly smothered without too much damage to the furniture. Some soot stains, and the pillow in his hand is done for (and there’s that temptation again), but nothing that can’t be fixed or cleaned up. At least, he thinks, looking sheepishly at the other guy, nothing physical. “I’m sorry,” he repeats, rubbing the back of his neck. “It…shouldn’t happen again. It normally never happens, so fingers crossed this was just a fluke?”
Vergil takes another step back, away from the fire --- he does not want near anything that can burn, thank you, he knows exactly what sort of injuries that leaves. Fire itself isn’t what he’s most acquainted with, no, but it’s still something he dislikes on principle. He watches, unsure of what to do or how to do it and hating everything about that uncertainty, until the fire is out. Even then he can’t relax, instead folding his arms over his chest and tucking his hands under his arms as he frowns at the damage.
“Accidents happen,” he says, but doesn’t shift out of his defensive posture, tense and still unhappy that he can’t settle himself like he would have been able to before all of his work on his soul was undone and his trigger locked away. “But --- if it isn’t normal, then do you have any idea of what caused it this time?” There has to be a cause, after all, and anything with a cause can end up controlled if you can just work out what that is. The thought of uncontrollable fire-starting being anywhere near him is enough to make him want to be wherever Tallyn isn’t.

‘ i confess, i messed up. ’(Tallyn to either Vergil, whoever u have the mood for)
“’Messed up’ is not the phrasing this calls for,” Vergil says, staring wide-eyed as he backs away from the small but very-obvious fire that’s crawling up the furniture near him. “Would you --- put it out.” He doesn’t like this; in fact he’s sure he hates it, because he doesn’t know where anything is in this place yet and he’s reasonably sure this building is not in any kind of shape to live up to proper fire codes and he doesn’t have people he can tell to fetch extinguishers or do anything about it, and would any of the people here listen to him if he told them to do anything? (He doubts it, he has nothing, no control over anything, and now on top of that things are on fire.)
