The General Directorate of Public Security has required expatriates wishing to buy Hajj Packages and enter Makkah to obtain a permit from authorities starting Thursday.

For expatriates to enter the holy city, one of the following documents is required: An entry permit to work in the holy sites issued by the competent authority, a residency permit (iqama) issued from Makkah, an Umrah permit or a Hajj permit.

Brig. Gen. Sami Al-Shuwairekh, the spokesman for Public Security, said that the measure was in line with the regulations for the Hajj pilgrimage this year.

In another restriction imposed on Hajj and Umrah pilgrims, Saudi Arabia has now prohibited carrying Zamzam water bottles inside checked-in baggage of pilgrims.

In an advisory issued by the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) Tuesday, the airlines have been strictly advised to stop passengers from carrying Zamzam water bottles inside checked-in baggage.

Earlier, passengers were allowed to take a minimum of 10 litres of Zamzam water per person, but the 2014 rule limited the amount to only 05 litres per passenger.

UAE authorities announced the requirements which pilgrims coming to the kingdom with Hajj Packages 2022 must meet to perform Hajj, one of the five pillars of Islam, the state news agency (WAM) reported on Tuesday.

The National Emergency Crisis and Disasters Management Authority (NCEMA) and the General Authority of Islamic Affairs & Endowments set an age limit of 65 for pilgrims.

Pilgrims must not have performed Hajj before and must have received the approved vaccine shots against COVID-19 as well as a booster shot. They must also present a negative COVID-19 test that’s conducted within 72 hours before arriving in the Kingdom.

Ahmed Taoufiq, Morocco’s Ministry of Habous and Islamic Affairs said on Tuesday that he is in daily contact with the Saudi Arabian authorities to prepare for the 2022 pilgrimage.

Answering a question on the preparations for 2022’s pilgrimage at the House of Councilors, the Minister said that the Hajj fees and the gathering period will be announced as soon as the services (housing, food, etc) and their fees are determined in line with the recommendations of the Royal Commission in charge of pilgrimage.

However, the Royal Commission has not been able to inquire about the rates of these services, as they have not yet been approved by the Saudi Ministry of Hajj, Taoufiq noted.

Buying a personal smartphone has been made mandatory, by Saudi authorities, for intending pilgrims to enable Hajj 2022 aspirants to get the permission of offering prayers through mobile Apps, said an official of the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony.
