Sooo, fun news that I've been putting off sharing~ but three weeks ago on Tuesday, I went to the Bordergreams QftQ Launch Party :>
Originally, I wasn't entirely set on going, despite living in LA, because I can be an awkward mess around people who are significantly cooler than me. But come Tuesday, I braved the 10 freeway at the height of rush hour traffic and got to meet the four wonderful minds behind Bordergrams, including our guy, Mr. G.T Karber!!
It was genuinely surreal, and I can talk all day about every single detail of the event and how much of a nerd I got to be, but my goal is for this post to not be *too* long and rambly.
But anyway! I got there a quarter hour early, bought my copy of QftQ, and did my best to chill out in the designated seating area cause I was just a cocktail of emotions. Excitement and nervousness were a given, but I was also dead worried about the "Game Night" bit of the event because I have a very limited set of puzzling skills.
But it was fine! Cause the game was just your typical QftQ quest with an added scavenger hunt element for extra funsies, since ten out of the thirteen words were missing from the puzzle and were hidden around the nearby area in the B&N. The best (and scariest) part of the game, though, was getting the opportunity to talk to each of the authors, who were walking around the same area, because they each had their own word to give for the sake of the puzzle's completion.
So, equipped with my own puzzle paper page and a mini golf pencil, I was off, and all of them were so sweet and cool and awesome. The only thing I regret was running away the second I got their word and their signatures, because there was enough time in there for more of a conversation... Unfortunately, shyness makes me a flight risk.
I did, however, get to openly question if Queen Leigh was going to end up having any super secret ulterior motives for her Queendom when I spoke to Amin Osman because he asked if I was going to either pledge my loyalty to her or join the Order instead. Mind you, I had no idea what tf the Order was at that point, but I brought up the twists of the first book to explain my mistrust, and it was nice to tell him how ruined those twists got me lmao.
I also got to talk a bit about murdle with G.T Karber since I brought my copy of volume 1 for him to sign (yayy)!! Sadly, again, because I'm way too good at abandoning ship, I now have to admit that I 100% failed this community by not hounding the guy on the volume 3 cliffhanger… so my bad, guys, I was too star-struck to think properly!
But yup, that's about it for my SparkNotes version of this event, 10/10 experience all around (minus the commute there and back home…)
Also! Down below is the little excerpt of lore that came with the puzzle! When they were going through the rules of the game, it was mentioned that this puzzle acted as a tiny prequel to QftQ ^^ (plus images of their signatures)
