What if the democracy we thought we were serving no longer exists, and the Republic has become the very evil we’ve been fighting to destroy?

something something “I’m a person and my name is Anakin” showing his name is a central way he retains identity while a child slave vs “that name no longer has any meaning to me” in almost the same breath as “I must obey my master” thirty years later after Sidious accomplished what Gardulla and Watto never managed to: breaking his spirit and convincing him he has no other options but obedience, accepting painful consequences, never looking for a way out. something like that
My piece for the @songofthecaptain zine. I'm so honored that I got to make a spread for such an amazing project!
leia organa truly has one of the best bait-and-switch character introductions of all time because when you meet her she's this brave, stoic picture of elegance and justice and always knows just what to say to vader and tarkin and is clad in white like an angel and is this perfect two-dimensional archetype of pureness of heart. and then approximately half an hour later into the film she meets luke and han and she IMMEDIATELY shows her true colors as a sarcastic, bitchy control freak with a massive impulsive streak and a deep mine of hyperspecific insults. 10/10 character design i'm obsessed with her
Kestrel-dad not sure how to dad but he’s trying his best.
Dad loves you and feeds you. But he is also dumb and feeds you a wonderfully done wagyu steak. You are 3 days old.
Okay, but check out this video from mid-May 2022 of a Kestrel Dad who just kept piling up voles and mice beside his babies when the mom was injured/killed/mia’d by owls…but then watched one of his babies just swallow a lizard and went “OH. I can feed them small food!” and learned to tear it apart!
EDIT: There’s a not-zero percent chance that this could be the same dad???????? The source is the same–Robert E Fuller–but they could be different birds.
UPDATE: Not only has Mister Kes learned to feed his chicks all on his own…
….the three chicks who were taken out of the nest for intensive care after the mom disappeared were put back in, and he just started feeding them, too.
He’s a single father of six who does not possess the instincts to feed even one of his offspring, but he learned and adopted that behavior without difficulty and is now hunting and providing for six kids all on his own.
Happy father’s day to the Krestel single dad of 6 Who is doing a wonderful job
DRAG IS NO LONGER BANNED IN TENNESSEE ✨✨
The Star Wars Original Trilogy is peak fiction because they took a fairy tale and set it in space, then they gave the princess in distress a GUN. But even better they gave her a sharp tongue and the power of revolution. They made the “dragon” a depressed cyborg father with asthma who doesn’t understand his own emotions and does murders because of it. And they made the knight a blond Barbie boy who attempts to solve problems with the power of love like he’s Sailor Moon or something.
And then they said, “oh yeah they’re all related btw. All the galaxy’s problems are this one family’s fault. Hope this helps 😘”
The French really don’t fuck around.
Here’s what makes me the most upset about Cody’s experience with his chip basically revealing that the clones truly think they chose to kill their Jedi and that their free will wasn’t taken away:
I could make a whole separate post about the implications it has for Cody, Bly and Wolffe for example, but what makes me the most upset is Anakin’s role in it all.
It was bad enough that he thoughtlessly uses the 501st to slaughter the Jedi at the temple, proving that their sentiency was less important to him than his own selfish choices.
But now we know that all those men spent their last moments alive believing they were freely choosing to kill the Jedi. It must’ve been so confusing for them because their realities were just rewritten by those stupid chips and Anakin didn’t even think about how it could affect them. It probably didn’t even occur to him.
Cody’s look when Crosshair calls the Jedi traitors is everything because it gives us a glimpse into what the clones who didn’t know about the chips feel about what happened.
I personally think this is one of the cruelest things Anakin does in the entire franchise and we never talk about it. To be complicit in denying a group of people who trust you their humanity and their free will just to fulfil what you want is unmistakably evil. Using them to kill a different group of people who trust you makes it so much worse. There were two betrayals taking place simultaneously.
Those poor men will have spent their final moments (because I’m assuming not many made it out) not only being used as tools by the man who insisted he cared for them, but also feeling the responsibility of it being their choice too when it absolutely was not.
i know everyone’s already giving their hot takes about the velma show lmfao but what makes me genuinely sad is how badly they treat the characters. like i watched a clip on twitter where velma disparages fred in court (after having falsely accused him of murder!) and she calls him a small-dicked privileged manchild who can’t even feed himself and like?
i don’t think mindy understands that all the characters in scooby doo are beloved. people don’t want to see daphne be a vapid “bitch” (which velma literally calls her that) or fred be misogynistic. we don’t want to see shaggy be some loser.
so like, who is this show for exactly? it’s obviously not for scooby fans because it’s too cynical about both the characters and the fanbase. it’s not for kids because it’s an adult show. it’s too stupid to appeal to adults. it’s a weird self-insert fantasy with scooby doo slapped onto it. mindy’s just playing the same loser character she always plays/writes to project on. daphne’s too bitchy, shaggy doesn’t have a single character trait similar to the og shaggy, fred’s too much of an asshole, velma’s judgemental and rude. like. WHO IS THIS FORRRRR.
I still just cannot believe they made Fred obsessed with portraying Toxic Masculinity in the Velma show.
Fred?
‘Ascot wearing’ Fred?
‘Metrosexual icon’ Fred?
‘Cried openly during the goodbye scene in Alien Invaders’ Fred?
‘Drinks his respect women juice daily’ Fred?
‘Unapologetically affectionate with Shaggy’ Fred?
That Fred? Obsessed with Toxic Masculinity? The audacity. The gall. The clownery.
So here’s this...
Cody told Crosshair that he requested him specifically as soon as he was cleared for duty.
Then he IMMEDIATELY says “word is, the rest of Clone Force 99 went rogue after Order 66 came through.”
Would it be completely out of leftfield to HC that Cody wanted Crosshair for this mission, thinking that they could go rogue together and disappear? Knowing that he is deeply beginning to question things, and he thinks Cross might be too? Like maybe Cody was very slyly looking for help getting the eff outta there and thought Crosshair might be the best option because his squad had already defected and disappeared, and he might have some tips or a plan?
Only for Crosshair to stomp out hope with his whole “then they’re traitors like the Jedi?” bs.
So Cody just goes “oh shit right yeah good soldiers follow orders yup yup. Fuck.”
Yes yes yes! Not out of left field at all! I thought this too!!! Because he brought it up kind of casually, kind of gauging Crosshair's response!
Hahahaha, I love this! ---> "So Cody just goes “oh shit right yeah good soldiers follow orders yup yup. Fuck.” UGH! Poor Cody was so hopeful for Crosshair to have the same sentiment... :( (I have to give more kudos to the animators though, because you can sooooo see the weighty pondering in Cody's expression...just love it so much.)
so we know that Anakin taught Ahsoka how to hold her own against the clones in a fight which ultimately ended up saving her life right?
Well I raise you: Captain Rex didn't get formal pilot training (as mentioned in the Umbara Arc -> Krell: "Are your men pilots now?" Rex:"My men may not be pilots,..." doesn't directly say that Rex isn't trained, but would be a logical assumption, seeing as I don't think the Kaminoans would waste resources training a Captain who won't be piloting as a pilot) BUT Anakin taught him, which is why he can get on that ship and fly through the debris and save Ahsoka.
Anakin prepared both of them in such a way that they survived order 66.

Cody: If you put the word 'violently' in front of any action you're doing it immediately becomes infinitely funnier
Jesse: Violently break dances
Kix: Violently hugs
Hardcase: Violently watches TV
Fives: Violently uncovers a Sith plot for mass murder and genocide
Rex: Violently worries about the last sentence
Ahsoka: I hate how when you're born force sensitive out of nowhere, you're forced to go into Jedi training so you can become a Jedi knight. What if I wanted to be a duck? Nobody asked me if I wanted to be a duck.
Obi-Wan:
Obi-Wan: Do you want to be a duck?
Ahsoka, tearing up: Yeah..
