a/n: this is my first fic for muri heyyy. it's inspired by his upright route and i hope that y'all like it!! also usually when i don't have a taglist bc im a new blog/new writer i just tag other ppl who love the character so I'll do that below! I'll tag some muriel content creators that make me love him even more 🥺
"they're the most adorable thing that ive ever seen" he thinks.
Muriel and his lover lay by the creek. it was near his hut, and the apprentice (now magician) suggested that they go for a dip. now that the couple was done wading in the clear waters and splashing around with inanna, they lay together by the riverbed. the apprentices head lay in muriels lap. The sun shone down on the two of them and warmed their skin.
"this feels great, doesn't it love? just the two of us. i never knew that i could have something like this." his lover murmurs, dreamily. a blush tints muriels cheeks at this. he can't help but agree. even before he and them were in a relationship, before they banished lucio to the devils realm, Muriel found himself fantasizing about days like this. it had been a guilty pleasure of his- imagining the future with his partner, relaxing with them, taking care of them... now he was living it. muriel couldn't ask for anything more besides spending his life at their side.
"yea..." he agrees, admiring his loves beauty. "my life with you is more than i could ever dream of" the apprentice giggles at this, and Muriel blushes.
"nono muri, its not bad. it's just so, so adorable when you're honest." they take his hand in both of theirs. the apprentice is still laying down, but now they're holding one of Muriel's big, sturdy hands and tracing patterns onto his palm with their fingers. "im just... happy, darling. you seem relaxed now. free. and i am so, so proud of you. im so proud of this life that we've made together. and i love you." inanna looks up from where she's curled up near the apprentice and shoots them an accusatory look. off that, the apprentice giggles again "yes inanna. i was just going to say that i love you too, my best girl." they're baby-talking in that cute voice that muri loves, and it makes him smile a little to himself. there is so much love in his life now, hes found. he loves how joyous the forest looks, with its clear creeks, greenery, and animal friends. he loves how the hut looks after he and the apprentice added their renovations (his lover had quite the creative touch). muriel loves his friends, nadia and asra and portia and... julian (but he'd never admit it). they accepted him and supported him when he needed it. he loves the kokhuri, his tribe, and all of their tales and traditions that he will work endlessly to share and preserve. but most of all, muriel loves his family. the apprentice and inanna and... maybe the chickens, if you can count them. they're all his little family. and he silently vows to protect this family, and love them, completely and unwaveringly.
the apprentice looks up from their position. they've been giving inanna little ear scritches, much to her delight. "muri, what are you thinking of?"
muriel brushes his loves cheek with his hand. "you, darling. and how much i love you."
the apprentice kisses his palm, a smile in their shining eyes. their lips are soft against his skin. the apprentices next words radiate a warmth, a tenderness, that Muriel wants to hold close to his heart.
"i love you too, Muriel. now and forever, my love."
Muriel can't take it anymore, and bends to kiss his love on the lips. they giggle into it and kiss back eagerly. his love, now and forever.
