language is literally so beautiful like in english "i miss you" comes from being unable to locate someone in the field after battle, it's "i look for you but i can't find you" but the french "tu me manques" is also about absence but it's not something i do, it's something that happens to me, as in "you are something essential lacking inside me", in portuguese it's either "sinto a tua falta" as in "i feel your absence" or, from solitude you get "saudade de vocĂŞ" as in "i am lonely [of] you", and in spanish the word comes from stranger and it's something one does, "te extraĂąo" as in "i am making a stranger out of you", and, and, and

âI want to leave no one behind.
To keep & be kept.
The way a field turns its secrets
into peonies.
The way light keeps its shadow
by swallowing it.â
- Ocean Vuong, Night Sky with Exit Wounds
Super soft intimacy
cradling the face, looking into their eyes
pressing foreheads against each other
sighing into the other's mouth
kisses all over the face
calling each other petnames they wouldn't use in public
hugging the other from behind
sliding hands under their clothes
softly stroking their warm skin
ruffling the other's hair
murmuring sweet things into their ears
stroking the other's finger while holding hands
nuzzling into their neck
massaging their feet
napping together
having the other's head on their lap
staring into each other's eyes
pressing soft kisses on their shoulders
smiling into the kiss

A few months back, I read about a study that found that people who were told to regularly think about things theyâre grateful for reported significantly improved physical and mental well-being at the end of the study. So I started going for a walk every day before work and making myself come up with 5 things that Iâm grateful for. And I know it sounds like the most cornball shit ever, but it has fundamentally changed my brain chemistry.
I was aware that I was becoming a little bit too much of a sarcastic little hater before I started this experiment. Now I am almost startled to catch myself saying shit like, âWow, look at the flowers on that tree, I am so grateful I decided to walk this way,â unironically, completely unprompted, and outside of the specific time in the day when I do the gratitude practice. Iâve rewired my brain to look for things to be grateful for, and so I look around me more and find more of them, which makes me feel happier, which makes me find even more good things.
For the record, Iâm not saying, âOnly think positive thoughts! No bad vibes!â Toxic positivity is probably about as unhealthy as only thinking negative thoughts. Sometimes shit does just suck. Iâm not telling you to be grateful for the bad things around you. Being a sarcastic little hater definitely has its place. But setting aside like 2 minutes per day to come up with 5 things youâre grateful for will genuinely improve your outlook. It doesnât have to be big stuffâsometimes the best I can manage is simple shit like, âIâm grateful that zippers were invented,â but even that forces me to be in the present moment and deepens my appreciation of the world around me. Try it, even if you have to do it badly or sarcastically at first. Even if you only do it so that you can come back and tell me Iâm wrong in 3 months. Set a daily alarm on your phone and give it a try.
these are the valentineâs day hours on the website of a flower shop not far from my apartment & i thought â8 am - âtil the last roseâ was really cuteÂ

Just a reminder to anyone who will listen! Thereâs a huge cold front coming up in America right now and I want to remind everyone to NEVER use or rely on a gas stove to heat up your home. You will die. If your power goes out, the best thing you can do is cover your windows, or get to an area in your house with no windows, and bundle up to the best of your ability to conserve heat. I know generating heat with whatever you have sounds good in theory, but we lost a LOT of people to carbon monoxide poisoning in last years Texas Freeze because many relied on gas stoves and other propane heat sources. A lot of people went to bed and never woke up. Please be aware of the things you canât see, like fumes from your generator, built up gas when starting a car in an enclosed space, and of course, the excess carbon monoxide that can be generated by leaving a gas stove on for too long.
Surround yourself with people who see your value, and remind you of it.
