She wasn’t even going to ask, quite honestly.
For one thing, it wasn’t any of her business. For another, if she had wanted to give Dolly the impression that there was anything going on between her and Dylan, there would have been few better ways to do than than acting suspicious over the mention of another girl.
And while she had no qualms about flirtatiously teasing… well, anyone, really, if it proved amusing enough for her, Angel felt no need to deliberately project any mistaken ideas on that count.
She also took Dolly’s reassurance about her and Dylan not being related in stride, too. Dylan had called Dolly his sister; but as was the case in many pet families, Angel knew not to assume they were related by blood so much as by adoption. Humans did that, adopted pets from all different families and backgrounds…
Too bad that only stuck some of the time…
Again, Angel shook off the thought.
She snorted a little at Dolly’s question. “Funny story, but I accidentally almost hit him with the trash can I knocked over to look for lunch. A take out while getting takeout, if you will.”
She didn’t usually make an effort to use wordplay; but when the opportunity fell into her lap like this? Well, Angel wasn’t going to resist it.
Still, her smirk softened after a moment.
“But he‘s been nice enough to show me around, even so. That’s a nice change of pace for a stray like me.”
“A trash can?” Dolly asked in slight disbelief. “Wait wait wait.” she begun smirking. “Are you saying that DYLAN of all dogs first met you, a stray, eating out of a trash can without running of to shower immediately?” She laughed.
“Well.. I didn’t get hit and she’s new here so it’s just the polite thing to do, you know?” Dylan explained, still a little annoyed by his sister teasing him in front of Angel.
“Bro, just a few weeks ago you trusted strangers about as far as you can skate without falling.” Dolly said. “Which is not really far” She leaned over to Angel to whisper it.
Dylan noticed the whisper, causing him to grumble a little to himself. He was just trying to be a bit more open minded and friendly. Why’d Dolly have to embarrass him like that? “Well.. Dogs change with time” he replied.
Dolly thought for a moment and before her brother could continue she had hatched a little.. test for him. “You sure you didn’t get hit with garbage? I think you got something on your back!” she said, looking at his back which was clean still.
“What?!? Where?!?” This caused Dylan to quickly stop in his pace and flip around in a hectic manner to see if she was right. All the bacteria, maybe even fleas! What could have been in that trash can? Dylan stopped when he heard the laughter of his sister.
“Hah! Gotcha! Now that’s the Brother I know!” She chuckled a little longer before she saw Roxy and Snowball waving at her to come over from across the park. “Well..looks like I’m needed.” She said before turning heel. “We should hang out sometime, Angel!” She added as she ran off to her friends.
“Ugh.. Dolly..” Dylan said, sounding pretty annoyed as he got back up. “Sorry about this.” This certainly didn’t look like the best first impression.
