Wolfsonian Digital Strategy [Draft - May, 2019]
Goals 1. Offer deeper and broader access to The Wolfsonian’s collection. 2. Offer exciting, stimulating ways to experience and interact with the collection. 3. Offer multiple layers of interpretation about the collection.
Strategies [evergreen] 1. Link digital initiatives to larger institutional priorities. • Reinstall permanent collection and expand building • Expand audience • Better integrate with learning and research at FIU (i.e. Public Humanities) • Grow revenue 2. Integrate technology into planning for specific exhibitions and programs. 3. Learn from practitioners inside and outside the museum world. 4. Diffuse technological knowledge among staff and board. 5. Strengthen digital asset management as necessary infrastructure for public-facing initiatives, as well as internal projects and research.
Actions [next two years] Public-Facing Content 1. Create/implement/iterate digital applications and exhibitions to offer information about and experiences with the collection. 2. Investigate the potential of technology—AR, VR, AI, 3D animation—to offer visitors novel sensory and intellectual experiences. 3. Develop programs that involve digital technology and contemporary art in dialogue with the collection. Digital Asset Management 4. Inventory The Wolfsonian’s digital assets; create and report metrics to make information about these assets accessible and understandable to staff and board. 5. Investigate alternative platforms for online digital catalog. 6. Create procedures for receiving feedback about online digital catalog from internal and external users. 7. Create procedures for developing digital content (metadata and images).
