This account will be posting builds from a (private) creative server involving my friends and I :) Mainly created as a way to archive/share builds and stuff. We hope you enjoy!
(id: two gifs of snails in minecraft, it is raining in both gifs. gif 1 is of a single snail slowly crawling toward a flower bush. gif 2 is four snails, two of them bumping into one another while a third peacefully crawls past in the background and one bigger red snail watches in the foreground. end id.)
finally putting both of versions digitally... only took me like one year LMFAO
anyways i love u samson. he has a certain sadness in his eyes that gets worse over time. at least in the past he had hope.
infodump about this character and art choices below!:
SO. to summarize, Samson is not a human but a sculk avatar. He first emerged not as a human but as a more monstrous creature in the past (around the 1500s in this timeline), disturbed by mining efforts Calicle Way, a city located in the Badlands country called Echino Mesa. The incident and the creature was named The Cataclysm, and after emerging and practically absorbing all of the experience of whoever died in that incident, Samson was able to live amongst the townsfolk under different identities during his extremely long lifetime.
'Samson' is just one of many identities that he invented, and it was with this identity that he met his husband, Coleman Burdain, in the 1800s. He was young, had several odd jobs before becoming a famous and well-liked bounty hunter, he was basically at his peak. He adopted the Burdain family name and helped Coleman with his research on sculk (and other hostile mobs/monsters).
When Coleman died eventually, he faked his death in a shootout and fell into a depressive slumber for the next 1500 years before waking up as Samson Quill in the ~3300s? While Samson does repeat other identities, the 'Samson' identity is the only ID that physically looks like he aged. This version of Samson is a lot more laid-back and lax, and has become a mentor for another character, Maristela Aphros.
THATS PRETTY MUCH IT. In terms of art, I initially wanted to just keep Burdain's color palette all green, a "new leaf" since he's much younger looking (around 20s-30s) while Quill's color palette was gonna be all blues- older, sadder, just depressing.
But then I thought I oughta color in his moth poncho (which i also might redesign at some point LMFAO). The poncho is also green, which symbolizes his need to cling back to his youth.
And it's to mask his Self. Samson at this point in time is withering away, barely eating/feeding and can't sustain himself like this any longer. If he doesn't kill someone to stay alive, he will perish. And after experiencing so many people who actually love him for who he is (Coleman, Electra, Maristela, Lottie, Leticia... SO many people), Quill is weak from gaining these connections. But he is loved.
I love this character if you can't tell!!!! I've been tweaking a lot of stuff about sculk and in particular Samson's character because there was a lot of stuff that I thought needed a trim. His older version was honestly a really depressing character, and while I still kept a lot of stuff from his past designs, Samson doesn't need to be that depressing. He needed a bit more lighthearted stuff to balance him out!
I'm actually still writing this story out ("Welcome to Echino Mesa", which i might also change the title but wtf-ever) but it's taking a while because I keep going back and rewriting things. I've hit a roadblock on some plot points too, but it's okay :] Ultimately this is just a passion project and I'm not looking to put this out anywhere than like. the internet lol so... yayyyy!!!
