As you can see, irish band Na Fianna ( @itsnafiannamusicstuff ) are set to return to the fabulous pub The Dubliner in Oslo in a couple of weeks. We surely are bunch of lucky northerners to have these guys back again. I remember seeing them for the first time in Dublin back in late 2014. We were out looking for a place to have dinner, since the restaurant at the hotel was closed that evening, and we ended up at an âirish nightâ-show with dinner, dancing and Na Fianna performing. And there was something special about this band. We asked the waitress for the name of the band afterwards and she wrote it down on a little piece of paper which we brought with us back to Norway. I think their first visit to The Dubliner, Oslo was in early 2015. Unfortunatley we didnât know of that visit, but the band returned in October the same year, as well as in February this year. And we managed to make it to the capital both times, as we hope to do now when theyâre back in September.
I remember someone (sorry, donât remember whom!) writing on Twitter something like this: âWhen you hear someone perform a trad song also done by Na Fianna and you realise itâs just not the sameâ. That is so true. Na Fianna really put âtheir own touchâ to the songs they play. Itâs a genuine Na Fianna style to it, and thatâs what makes their versions of the songs so good. That, and the fact that they rather play an old forgotten sea shanty than a sing-along-classic (although they occasionally throw one or two in), is why my fiancĂ© and I keep trying to catch the few chances we get to see this band live. And the reason why you should take every chance you can get to see Na Fianna live. These are four very nice guys and very talented musicians who deserve all the recognition they can get. So, if youâre in Oslo September 7-10, track down The Dubliner. I promise you will have a fabulous evening.Â
