Setting: A rainy day, just outside a university library
⸻
Yeonjun had exactly three seconds to react when the skies opened up.
1. He looked up.
2. He realized he’d forgotten his umbrella.
3. He broke into a sprint anyway.
Halfway across the quad, shoes squelching, hoodie drenched, he saw someone standing under a big navy umbrella—still and dry like the rain didn’t exist.
And then, unexpectedly, that someone stepped sideways.
Right in front of Yeonjun.
“Do you always run into storms unarmed?” the stranger asked, tilting the umbrella to cover them both.
Yeonjun blinked, catching his breath. “Uh. Not usually. I… forgot. I guess.”
“Guess you’re lucky I didn’t.” The guy smiled, soft and teasing, eyes hidden beneath dark bangs. “Come on. I’ll walk you to the building.”
Yeonjun hesitated, then nodded. “Thanks. I owe you.”
“Yeah, you do,” the stranger said. “I accept payment in coffee and casual friendship.”
Yeonjun laughed, falling into step beside him. “What if I’m a terrible friend?”
“You’re already terrible at weather prep,” he said dryly. “That’s two strikes.”
They walked together under the small canopy of safety, shoulders brushing occasionally.
“So,” Yeonjun said, heart inexplicably light, “do I at least get your name before I give you all my future coffee money?”
“Soobin,” the stranger replied, glancing at him with a quiet smile. “And you?”
“Yeonjun.”
“Well, Yeonjun,” Soobin said, stopping under the library awning and lowering the umbrella, “next time it rains, don’t be stupid.”
Yeonjun looked up at the sky, then back at him.
“Next time,” he said, “maybe you could be there too.”
Soobin flushed just slightly, then nodded. “Deal.”
And as the rain continued to fall, Yeonjun realized he might not have needed an umbrella after all—just the right person to stand under one with.
⸻
End.
