I wanted to reinterpret the song, Samsa, from the lens of Haibara! The song is based on The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka, where the main character Gregor Samsa wakes up as an insect and tries to live on with his new existence.
In Haibara's case, she sort of undergoes a metamorphosis opposite to the one Gregor experienced. While Gregor becomes a monster (to the eyes of his family), Haibara goes from a "monster" to a normal girl. Though this transformation still carries the same shame and guilt depicted in the song. After all she was Sherry, the scientist who developed the poison that shrunk down Shinichi. Just because she transformed into Haibara, it doesn't absolve her from the guilt she feels. If anything it magnifies it, forcing her to pretend that she isn't actively endangering those around her.
Don't say you've given up on reality, Samsa.
In the song, the main character has a back and forth with someone who insists that they should keep on living, no matter how hideous they feel. I thought this part reflected Haibara and Shinichi's dynamic, where he becomes one of the people that keeps her tethered and ultimately helps her choose to not run away anymore.
Even if I'll become a shadow of my former self, someday it'll become a lovely song.
As for the art itself, I thought it would be a fun idea to place Haibara in a frame similar to taxidermy butterflies, where Haibara is actively isolated from the rest of the world. While initially she was physically closed off by being stuck in the Black Organization, she becomes emotionally closed off after becoming Haibara.
She's holding both a knife and an apple, the former being featured in the music video and the latter being mentioned in the lyrics of the song. I interpreted the two objects as the two choices she must make. To run away (the knife) or to keep living on (the apple). In The Metamorphosis, Gregor's father throws apples at him in anger. The song references the apple twice, first with a negative connotation then with a positive light after.
But even so, I wonder why it's as if you're biting into the apple, Samsa.
With that line, I interpreted the thrown apple as a sign of accepting and carrying on with life. Kind of like when life gives you lemons, make lemonade (I guess in this case apple pie? yum). So that's what I wanted to go with in the drawing.
Anyways, I just think this song is a good reflection of Haibara's inner turmoil and my brain just kept going. Thanks for reading! As a bonus here's an alternate version that I also like.
