Manaka looked at the stranger expectantly, a small smile laced on her face. âHmm, would you be willing to help me out with a tiny favor? I promise it wonât take long!â
âThe Arcana is the means by which all is revealedâŠâ Elizabeth muttered to herself as she took one of the tarot cards that she spread out on the table in the park.
Elizabeth flipped over the card she just took, carefully examining the card before she spoke. âVery interesting.â
âWhatâs so interesting?â Manaka knew eavesdropping wasnât a good habit to have, but when it lead to encounters with new people, she just couldnât help it - plus, whatever she was talking about, it sounded really cool. âArcana? Revealed?â
âSummerâŠâ Rin lets out a heavy sigh as he taps the table. He looks out of the window, shades on to block the sun from blinding him. âWhat to do..â He yawned out of pure boredom.
Manaka couldnât help but interject when she heard him - after all, summer was full of excitement, and sitting around sure wasnât a good way to spend it: âYou can do lots of things in summer! Say, I'm heading over to the arcade right now - wanna come?"
Sweet-Sharer || Manaka & Merida
âOf course!â How could Merida say no to sweets? The elder casually for a plastic fork in her lunchbox, one she keeps for emergencies like this (someone is bound to never be able to finish what they canât start).Â
She twirls in the fork in the air, smiling at the child.Â
Then, her eyes fall on the cake. Â She grows more than hesitant on attacking the baked good.Â
âYaâ barely touched itâŠâ Merida blurts out and stares at the stranger. âIs it that bad or somethinâ?âÂ
âOh, no, I just have a small appetite.â Manaka glanced towards her unfinished cake. âIâm sure youâll be able to enjoy it, so dig in!â
Sweet-Sharer || Manaka & Merida
ââŠNeed help ân eating it?â
âAh, yeah, I do! Will you help me?â
âHm... I bought a cake, but I donât think I can finish it.â

â Mhm! â
Makoto could only smile so brilliantly upon the adorable girlâs cheerful disposition. It was so infectious the older male couldnât help but pat her head in affection. â Iâm sure we would! â he beamed in return, â with your help, this place will feel homey in no time. â Makoto assured, moving a particular box out of the way in order for the girl to sit on the tufted ottoman.
â Although, I donât think you can move in right away just yet, â the swimmer mused, continuing where he left off unpacking before he left the flat to take out the trash, â I still need to finish getting most of these heavy stuff out of the way and find myâour other roommate. â The male originally intended to look for a roommate hopefully around his ageânot that he did not have any faith on his new friend (and little sister, as that how Manaka feels like to the soft-hearted brunet), but because he had trust on an adult paying their rent and monthly share of expenses on time.
â Hhmm, would you like to have a look around and possibly, pick a room you want, while I unpack the rest of these boxes? I wonât take any longer than letâs say,⊠â a hand cupped his own chin in thought, â fifteen minutes. How does that sound, Manaka-chan? â
âSounds great!â Manaka nodded her head quickly, then proceeded to poke around in his apartment, still filled with a plethora of unpacked boxes, but to her, already felt like home - after all, having another person around always made everything so much more friendly, not to mention exciting too.
She stumbled across an empty room that looked like she would like - it was close to the living room, so she would have premium access to the middle of the house and therefore be able to run into more people there. Plus, there was a really nice window, which was always an awesome thing to have in oneâs room.
Heading back, she reported to Makoto dutifully: âI think I like that room!â she said, gesturing towards the room she had just left. âIs that okay with you, nii-chan?â
burger fervor ;; manaka&midorima
âP-Prince?â Midorima was taken aback slightly by the new title that was bestowed upon himself. Nobody had ever called him a prince, other than his own sister, who thought of herself as a princess. Perhaps this might be the same thing. The trip down the memory lane made Midorimaâs lips curled up slightly into a weak, but genuine smile.Â
The prince and her princess proceeded to find a table that was close by the burger bar.
âWould you like to go first?â
âThatâs right!â she responded cheerily, secretly enjoying how it seemed to make her new friend a bit surprised -- that was her, the queen of surprises! Heh. At any rate, he was at least smiling now.
âOkay!â Manaka nodded eagerly, then began to choose out what she wanted on her burger. She really wasnât too pick, so she ended up picking almost everything. Except pickles, of course, they were super gross.
new beginnings ;; manaka&makoto
â A-ah.. â aaand Makoto Tachibana was a goner.
The swimmer was elated. This was, hands down, the highlight of his day; being called a big brother by an absolutely adorable little girl (that somehow reminds him of a flighty bunny, he just noticed.) and being able to help another person without really doing much. It was a sense of accomplishment for his samaritan character, knowing that heâd put one less person in danger against whatever malicious beings lurked within the twilight.
â Iâm glad! â Makoto states, rather gleefully, at the girl. â Oh, come on in! You should at least see what the flat looks like before you move in. â and before he also âofficiallyâ moves inâboy has been sleeping on a bedframe-depraved mattress by the bedroom for the past two days. There was just still much work to do before Makoto could finish whipping up said space from a 'flatâ to a cozy home.Â
â Sorry about the messâI still need to arrange and store some things here and there and do some redecorating. I've checked the electrical box, water, and heating systems and they all seem to work just fine, so thereâs no need to do some maintenance. Other than that, this space is good to go! â
âOkay!â Manaka nodded eagerly, excited at the prospect of making not only a friend, but a brother and a roommate out of this encounter. This entire conversation felt surreal , almost -- it was like a miracle, to make a friend out of someone that just happened to pass by at the right moment. Like a miracle, of some sorts. Or maybe even fate! That was how it worked in Brieve, the city of the red string and fate and magic and who knows what else.
âDonât worry!â She clasped her hands together. âWeâll make this place nice and comfy before you know it, okay, niichan?â
new beginnings ;; manaka&makoto
â Being alone is sometimes okayâbeing lonely isnât. â he replied, but more to himself. The wistful look in her eyes did not go amiss, but the older male chose to let it go. If she strives to move forward with a smile, thenâ" I guess thatâs okay. â
He then crouched, getting on Manakaâs eye level. A hand laid atop her head, and ruffled those carmine tresses in a playful manner. â You could always come and visit here if you want some company. â Makoto smiled, â I might not be the best to spend time with, but Iâm sure Iâll be always around! â ruffling her hair once more, the male finally stood up. In the midst of their small talk, both hadnât realized that they were already in front of the newcomerâs open doorâthe brightly colored paper blatanly catching the attention of anyone passing by.
â Hhmm,⊠weâve only just met so this might sound weird, â a nervous chuckle escaped his lips, but the maternal-like worry was still evident in his features. The thought of someone the same age as his little sister living all alone in another country wonât let his consciousness rest. â But how about you try being my second roommate?âe-eh Iâm still looking for the first one!! But I promise you wonât be alone for too soonâ! Please donât misunderstand, Manaka-chan. â the boy frantically waved his hands in the air, trying to dissuade any wrong thoughts that have magically condensed itself into thick mists.
Eh. By the looks of it, heâs the only one whoâs thinking of being misunderstood as someone with some malicious ulterior motive.
â itâs just that, â after shaking the thoughts of false accusations and jail away, he added. â you remind me of my younger sister, Ran.â Olive green eyes immediately softened by the mention of his little sister. â I would worry so much if I knew that she ever as much lives aloneâmuch more in another country. â
âHehe, Iâll be sure to take you up on that sometime, then!â A more genuine smile crossed her features as her hair was ruffled. Makoto-kun really was like a big brother she could count on! Manaka was glad that she had decided to talk to him today -- who knew, they mightâve never had met if it werenât for that.
At his suggestion, Manaka blinked a couple times, cocking her head to the side. âRoommate...?â Once the realization struck her, her eyes burst with metaphorical sparkles. âReally? Really really really? We can live together?â That may have been the most wonderful suggestion she had ever heard in his life, and there was only one clear answer. âIâd be happy to move in with you, Makoto-kun!â
âOr should I say, Makoto-niichan!â
new beginnings ;; manaka&makoto
â Thank you Manaka-chan, I could say the same to yours. â the brunet exchanged the pleasantries, eyes closing into two upturned crescents in delight.
â Hehe, it does sound exciting on the get-go, â he scratched the back of his head, trying to sound cheerful, but the stress of advertising and looking for prospective roommates were beginning to dampen his disposition. â but the stress of it gets to you a bit. â It would be the end of the month in a few daysâwhich meant rent is coming up. He needs to find a roommate soon, or itâll be the cost of his savings.
â Hold on, â and suddenly all cheerfulness was gone, replaced by a worried look fixated upon those big blue eyes. â You live all alone? â his subconscious of the spirited girl bearing similarities to his own little sister only succeeded in accentuating his growing worry. Granted, he knew several people who managed to live alone for years just fine (Haru for exampleâ..actually, no. Haru wasnât a good example. Heâd be sure the boy would drown in his own bathtub lest he periodically checks on him every day or two.) Japanese children were raised to have that independent mindset. But they werenât in Japan; in fact, they were on the other side of the world. Who knows what could happen if news of a little girl living by herself fell into the wrong hands.
Makoto paused for a moment, olive-green hues eyeing the female with a tinge of maternal worry. â Are you faring just fine on your own? â Now that he thought about it, how did the girl manage herself in every sense of the word? â Thatâ⊠you must be lonely, Manaka-chan. â
âYeah, I live by myself.â Manaka nodded, the smile slowly disappearing from her face and being replaced by a more pensive look. âItâs not so bad -- I visit my grandparents a lot, and I have friends who come over sometime.â Although, honestly? She was pretty sure she was a burden to her grandparents; why else would she not live with them instead of a small apartment by herself? Plus, the friends she had... they were friends, but not friends. They could never spare a second of their study time to play with her for a little bit more, and she hadnât had a sleepover since middle school.
But that was okay -- she had always dealt with it, so she didnât see what the problem was with it now.
âMm, I guess Iâm lonely, but thatâs okay!â She blossomed into another wide grin, although it did have a sad sort of look to it. âIt really isnât so bad!â
burger fervor ;; manaka&midorima
Midorima continued walking a short distance to the restaurant that they were going to go to before they stopped in front of the entrance. He looked back down towards the petite girl.
âYes this is the place.â He nodded in response to the girlâs question. He held out his hand at Manaka. âShall we go in?â A faint hint of pink raced acrossed his features, not that he was nervous.
âOkay!â She nodded eagerly, examining the place they were about to enter. It looked pretty yummy, getting her excited. This was sure to be one of the best lunches ever, especially with a new friend with her.
Manaka noticed his outstretched hand, meaning for her to take it -- how cute! It was as though she was a real princess... She giggled lightly, and took it gracefully, even doing a little bow for show. âOf course, my prince!â
burger fervor ;; manaka&midorima
âYou donât have to apologise.â Midorima comforted the girl in the best way he could. Even though heâs Japanese by blood, heâs not offended by the first name calling, for it was common for people to call each other by their first names in the western world.
âJust call me whatever youâd like.â
â...Okay, then!â She beamed at the older man -- even though he did seem intimidating at first, Midorima was actually a really nice person! She was glad he was the one she decided to stop.
They arrived in front of a restaurant, and she tilted her head to the side inquiringly. âIs this it?â
new beginnings ;; manaka&makoto
A peppy voice chirped from behind, prompting the taller man to turn around. â Ehâ â expecting a friendly strangerâprobably one his new neighborsâhis line of sight found no one. W-was that a ghost? but itâs the middle of the day! no oneâs hereâ
Oh. Makoto, look down.
When Makoto did look down, he was greeted by the sight of long, flowing carmine tresses and huge azure irises that twinkled in delight. He suddenly felt bubbly just being near at the little girlâs beaming presenceâher charming, youthful features had that kind of effect on people.Â
â Hello, â Makoto kindly greeted, gentle features blossoming into a warm smile of his own. â Mhm. I moved here yesterday, but I was supposed to be here a week agoâmoving company had a delay with shipping my stuff in. â Taking out the last bag of trash he had accumulated from unpacking beside the dumpster (they were mostly recyclables), he clapped his hands togetherâgetting rid of non-existent dustâthen turned to fully face the friendly little girl.  " Do you live around here too? âÂ
â My nameâs Makotoâwhatâs yours? â He was suddenly reminded of the twins, especially Ran. They must be the same age as the her. Makoto mused for a short moment; what could they be doing right now? Heh, probably sleeping. Itâs currently nighttime in Japan. â I live right aroundâ â dark olive green eyes did a quick sweep â âthere! â his index finger pointed east, right towards an open door with an eye-catching piece of brightly-colored paper taped on it. Â â The one with the paper on itâIâm currently looking for a roommate so I made use of eye-catching posters. â
It took the stranger a little bit to spot her, probably due to her rather small height -- hey, she hadnât hit her growth spurt yet! Either way, at least he managed to notice her finally, greeting her with kindness and a warm smile.Â
He seemed pretty friendly, which was what Manaka was hoping for. And he was new too; despite not being here for that long yet, she explored a lot of the nooks and crannies of Brieve, and was sure that she would be an awesome tour guide for her new neighbour. And maybe they would even be friends!
âYup, I moved in a little bit ago,â she explained enthusiastically. âSo Iâm pretty new, like you! But Iâd like to think that I know a lot about this place already -- my grandparents live here too, but...â She paused for a moment. âI live here by myself.â
At the mention of his name, she smiled again -- Makoto was such a nice name, fitting for such a nice person. âIâm Manaka, Manaka Mukaido! Itâs a pleasure to meet you, Makoto-kun!â Glancing up at her neighbour with pristine blue eyes, she noted that he seemed to have a sort of âbig brotherâ aura surrounding him -- the kind that made you want to go to him if you had any trouble.Â
âHm... youâre looking for a new roommate? That sounds exciting!â
castle hassle ;; manaka&sophie
âA troublemaker, you mean,â Sophie eyes at the teenager as Calcifer sits down automatically, enjoying being scratched. She sticks out her tongue at her four-legged companion as he only pays attention to one thatâs naive of his troublesome behavior and dirty ways of digging holes in his ownerâs backyard and stealing bacon off of her plate during breakfast time. ââOh, thank you,â she smiles at the compliment.Â
âO-Oh, me?â The hatter snuggles into her sweatshirt and glances over at the near-white sand underneath their feet. All she sees is their footprints and the pawprints from the shenanigans from before. âYouâre far too fair with your compliments but, Iâll gladly help you build a sand castle,â she nods her head as she kneels down and pats her dogâs back. Calcifer looks over to his owner and licks her hand before he returns his attention to the red-head.Â
âI have plenty of time to help you..So, tell me, where would you want to build one?âÂ
âTroublemakers are still cute,â Manaka retorted, patting the dog as she continually lights up with complete and utter awe of how adorably cute it was -- way too cute to be legal. âWhoâs a good doggy, hm?â
âYup, you!â She nodded eagerly, motioning towards the vast area of sand that was just waiting to be made into the most beautiful sandcastle the world has ever seen. With her eventual agreement, the corners of her lips tipped upwards, and her eyes sparkled. âYay! Iâm sure weâll make the best sandcastle ever!â
âHmmm....â She looked over their playing field pensively, one finger settled lightly on her right cheek. âHow about... over there?â Pointing over towards a small area that looked like it had plenty of sand -- not too far from the sea, but not too close either. Â
thinking out loud ;; manaka&sophie
The hatter eyes at the curious entity known as Manaka and couldnât help but feel her chest flutter, thinking back of her younger sisters when they werenât past the age of thirteen. Yet, the passing memory of those colors chills her slightly, the festival of the past with fate ensued for a feigning dream and a crooked smile with it. She wrinkles her nose and pats down her dress, walking towards the teenagerâs side.Â
âThe legend behind the string happens to be a curious one, Ma. They say that at first, two lost souls stood at the ends of the beachâŠâ The woman rubs her chin. âLike this.âÂ
She jogs over to the far end of the cliff, away from Manaka with her back turned. She woman folds her hands behind her back and looks around. Suddenly, she turns and grows wide eyed. â âWho are you?â â Sophie adapts an eccentric tone, trying her best to depict a male.Â
The hatter jogs to the other side and turns automatically with her hand running through her hair, looking just as surprised. â âIâm not sure as to who you are but..itâs been like I need to know you, â â her voice adapts to that of a higher pitch.Â
The hatter sinks her hands into her pockets, correcting her voice with a cough, and explains, âThey say a simple exchange of a glance and words, they knew they were in love. The reasoning behind fating is a concept that extends out of human knowledge and of its existence is debatable. However, a common idea is that souls are connected before life, something even with reincarnation for some. It depends really on what par of the island you ask or what books you read.âÂ
She jabs her foot into the ground, âAnd this place happens to be where it was first discovered that fating apparently exists,,â Copper eyes look over the horizon, a cool wind blowing away her loose strands of hair.Â
âMa, you know, questions like that would make you fit wonderfully in this small group Iâm organizing with my partner âwell, partner in investigation â about the mysteries behind the island.âÂ
âAhh, nice acting, Sophie!â Manaka praised, clapping loudly -- the sound soon died out between the wind and nature sounds that surrounded them.
âI get it now, though!" She stood up and twirled around. âSo this is the place where two people who loved each other met! Thatâs amazing, isnât it, to be in such a special place like this?â She fell silent for a moment, then spoke again, turning back to face the older one. âAnd this place looks the same as any other, but itâs so special to those two people... itâs amazing to think about!â
â...Ehh--!? The mysteries of the island?â Her eyes lit up with sudden excitement. âWow, that sounds super fun! Maybe I could join you guys sometime... if thatâs okay with you and your partner in investigation, of course!â
follow the flow ;; manaka&aoba
âAoba Seragaki. Nice to meet you too, Manaka~â
The bluenetâs smile turns slightly serious as he tries to check if the girl was injured in any way. The bus did stop rather abruptly and he figured that someone with such a small, delicate constitution might get hurt. Heâd seen some people get thrown around like ragdolls because of reckless drivers and heâd rather not have anything horrible happen to his (impromptu) singing partner.
â⊠You ok, though? No sprained ankles or anything like that?â
The bus floor beneath them gives a faint rumble as their stalled ride resumes albeit in a slower, more careful pace. Â
âAoba is such a cute name,â she lamented, smiling.Â
At his concern, she only giggled. âYup, completely fine!â It hadnât been too aprbut of a stop -- or well, rather, she had faced a lot worse before, so it really hadnât fazed her at all. And it wasnât as if anything hurt right now, which meant she really was fine. âThank you for the concern though, Aoba-kun!â
âAnyway.... where are you headed today?â
