aelish-moore:
“Oh isn’t insulting people the proper way to greet them? Or at least that was what I was taught. I guess my parents taught me wrong,” She joked. “A name that rolls of the tongue? Sure. That’s the worst crime of them all. I’m just glad that it doesn’t rhyme. Now names that rhyme should be a crime. I’m glad that your middle name isn’t an M. Now I can call you M&M!” Aelish laughed at her own joke. She laid down on her couch, getting more comfortable as she talked to Mia. “Now why would I discuss it over your work phone? I’ve heard the rumors that the police record their conversations. I’m not that stupid to discuss personal things over this line. Honestly it’s not that important but I’m glad you have time.”
She rolls her eyes at the other’s comeback, chuckling to herself as she begins to gather her belongings. “Alright---” the cop nods, essentially over the nickname that has still haunted her to this day. “Any more of that and I’m heading in the other direction,” she playfully warns, standing with her hand on her hip, ready to go. “You’re honestly too paranoid for your own good, but fine. I’ll be there in twenty.” Saying her goodbyes, Mia heads out the door and the building, getting to her vehicle in a matter of minutes. The brunette hadn’t always been known to be a friendly, nor forgiving cop. After all, her straightedge nature held a reputation of sorts around her colleges, Still, something about being in New Orleans for so long had stirred something in her. Contemplating permanency made her consider how she should act, and if that meant lending a helping hand, what could hurt? She makes it to Aelish’s home, knocking lightly as opposed to her normal ‘heavy’ knock when she was on the clock.
emmettandersvn:
“Not even free cookies, huh?” Emmett asked with a grin, tossing the napkin away in the nearest trash can on the street. “And man, if they had all that for free, they would’ve gotten me here even faster, trust me. — But so, what dessert do you like? Ice cream? Cake?” He questioned again, curiously, although a laugh followed at her remark. “Yeah, I’m mostly used to alot of snow, the cold, so I’m good.”
“I’m not really a dessert person,” Mia answers, after a few pondering hums. “I think I’d have to be really in the mood for it but--- I have to say, I don’t really have much of a sweet tooth. I guess too many instances of sweets getting into cavities as a kid an just ruin your entire desire for em’.” She shrugs, looking up at the other with a curious rise of the brow. “Oh yeah? Where are you from originally?”

emmettandersvn:
“I mean, when you hear the words free and cookies, why wouldn’t you want to get some out here?” Emmett shrugged, already biting into the one he’d stacked in a napkin from a nearby shop. “Yeah, the crowds can suck, but the weather can’t be an excuse , because I mean—“ He gestured a bit outward, referencing the rather warm, southern New Orleans night air.
“Well, the answer to that would be: not being a fan of cookies.” Mia challenged, brows raising as she crossed her arms. “Nachos, hot dogs... pizza on the other hand...” she went on, nodding with a soft smile. “I can do.” Following his gesture, Mia couldn’t help but agree, nodding as her arms fell to her sides. “Can’t argue with you there. Even good weather could stump a grinch.”
aelish-moore:
Aelish wasn’t normally one to try to make friends with a police officer. Why would she? With her record why would any police officer want to be friends with her either? She had been arrested more times then she could remember. Though the crimes on her record weren’t anything serious the list was still long enough. No felonies though so that was good. Mia had seemed different though. Like she actually cared about the people she was supposed to be protecting. That wasn’t something she had really seen before. Most of the police officers she knew didn’t care about criminals or their families. Maybe that was why Aelish decided to give her a call at work. “Marroquin? Really? That’s your last name? Mia Marroquin? Please don’t tell me your middle name starts with a M too?” She joked. “I’m glad you were still at work. I actually have a quick question for you. Do you have time to stop by?”
Mia couldn’t hold her chuckle, caught off guard by Aelish’s greeting. “Okay--- I guess insulting is how you greet people.” She repositions herself comfortably, arms crossing with her back slightly hunched. “My parents wanted something that rolls off the tongue, is that such a crime? ---And no, it doesn’t start with an ‘M’, since you’re so concerned.” She ends with a short, but soft laugh, letting Aleish continue with her question. Her head tilts, checking her wristwatch to check the time soon after. “You caught me at a good time, and I’m guessing this is something that can’t be discussed over the phone? ---Not that I don’t have the time. It sounds pretty important.”
noahmcelroy:
“Has anyone ever told you that you’re an asshole?” Noah voiced with a quirk of his eyebrow upward, flinging a quarter he’d found on the ground somewhere near the proximity of her head, though he couldn’t hold back a chuckle that fell past his lips. Their easy banter was definitely missed throughout the long work day with the both of the girls undercover - he’d had to make do with poking fun at the new interns. “I related heavily to the Channing Tatum character,” Noah joked with another grin, reaching for his plastic silverware and slamming the fork impatiently down on the table in a joking manner. “Warm’s good. Sit the hell down already, I’m hungry. Thank you by the way. I’m glad you found it in the kindness of your heart to share with little ol’ me. Remind me to actually buy that Christmas present for ‘ya off of my Amazon. I was waiting for ‘ya to actually be kind to me.”
“Oh, every day of the week,” she smiles sweetly, taking it as a compliment. She leans back slightly when he flings the quarter, laughing softly. Mia could always count on Noah to really relieve her stress. He was easy going and often reminded her that working in this type of business didn’t have to be ‘hardcore’, twenty-four-seven. “Oh, ‘course you did. It’s uncanny, the resemblance, really.” She quickly situates herself into the lounge chair, rolling her eyes at his toddler tantrum. “You’re a child,” she shakes her head. “Patience is a virtue, I hope you know that.” Mia sits down, chopsticks already in hand as she begins setting up her plate. “Don’t tease me with presents, Noah. I don’t expect to get anything this year, you'll only disappoint me.”
camibowyer:
“I understand.” Theo didn’t usually work on Christmas, but sometimes he worked on New Year’s, mostly for the holiday pay, like Mia… so in a way yes, she did understand. “I can only assume that spending Christmas in office parties must be a real bummer. You know, everyone’s always looking for a raise so they’re sucking up after their bosses and whatnot.” With a minor shrug, Camille picked another ornament and put it in her basket, before turning to the other woman with a smile. “I know a thing or two about being forced to socialize with people you don’t really want to and couldn’t care less about, so yes, working is much easier and gratifying in your case.” She chuckled softly, before motioning her head towards the check out lines in order to pay for her purchases. “I was going to go for a coffee after I was done buying these things, would you like to join me?”
“Bummer for me, a riot for others.” Her brows raise, emphasizing ‘others’. “Most of the guys get their kicks seeing how we are out of uniform, in a social space, you know? As if seeing a female officer in a dress is some sort of new found discovery.” Despite her comment, Mia wasn’t as bothered by misogyny as she appears to be. It mostly went in one ear and out the other, never the type to get riled up over catcalls. Usually, her demeanour alone doesn’t render what most women have to deal with, but Mia is --by no means-- a stranger to being belittled, especially in her field. It was solely the idea of walking around in something tight that bothered her. As though expressing any type of feminism would downgrade her reputation as a hardass cop--- as though appearing soft made her weak. Snapping out of her thoughts, Mia clears her throat, brows raising at Camille’s offer. “Yeah--- sure,” she nods, a smile emerging soon after. “As long as we can get something to eat too, I’m all in.”
talanzaretti:
“Oh. ” Talan nods, his eyes however instantly shifted back towards the road before them, noticing how the car headed slightly over a couple lanes, the freeway seemingly becoming smaller and smaller, nearing to an end, potentially indicating their destination was getting close. “Well you don’t have to explain if you don’t want. You do you. And hey, sounds like you’ve seen a lot of places anyway.” Talan nonchalantly shrugs while glancing at passing road signs in attempt to gain some semblance of bearings from the names printed upon them. It hadn’t occurred to him how much he hadn’t really gone out of the main city much until now. His attention turned towards Mia again at her question however. “Uh, that’s a loaded question, but it’s a likely possibility I’ll be staying put. – I’m guessing we’re getting pretty close, huh?
She nods, hues fixed ahead of her as they begin making it to the main street. They had a few more miles ahead of them, that same unsettling feeling beginning to rise within her. “It’s funny---” she starts, making a right turn. “I’ve been here for a while and yet, I still don’t know if I could call New Orleans a permanent place to be. But you’re right, I’ve seen enough... I guess I should get around to considering some permanency.” The idea of Mia growing old in New Orleans felt odd, especially by herself. Her perfect home was back in Guatemala, out on the patio of her large, two-story home, surrounded by her family that also found it difficult to leave. Her dream was to retire there, to die where her family had passed. However, a dream is only a dream, and Mia couldn’t see past that. “Is that because of Sawyer?” she looked over with a smug like grin, though subtle. At his follow up question, she nods, inhaling deeply. “A few miles.”

noahmcelroy:
He followed in the direction of the empty table without much of a question, keeping a listening ear out as Mia unloaded as much as she could about her current caseload. Noah had caught wind of what was going down with Sawyer and Mia a couple of weeks ago, putting in a good word here and there to ensure the rest of the place they were exactly the right people for the job. He’d seen firsthand their determination and all-around good police instinct, and though he always worried when either one of them was out of his sight he knew somewhere in his gut, just like he had with his brothers overseas that they could take care of themselves and get the job done just as it should be. He had the utmost faith in what they were capable of. “If ‘ya need another brain to pick, I could meet y’all at a diner out of the way, or something. It’s still some miles in the tank but it’d be like a halfway point. Could talk you through the damn papers or talk ‘ya through your day. Sometimes an extra pair of eyes helps,” he added with a simple shrug, settling down in one of the plastic chairs and waiting for her to do the same. He’d been lying if he said he wasn’t slightly starving. “Have you gotten anything new the past few days?”
She offered a grateful smile of sorts, tired, but grateful. “Thanks, I’ll be sure to pick what’s left of it if I’m cornered and without options,” she can’t help but joke, giving him a look that meant no harm. “Besides, it’s nothing left over Chinese and msg can’t fix, right?” They sit comfortably in the staff lounge, Mia straightening her back, a few cracks being heard when she stretches it. She groans, letting out a satisfying yawn before digging in. “A lead or two--- kids these days think the best blueprint for drug dealing is a comedy starring Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill.” Rolling her eyes, Mia’s hands are busying themselves, setting up their paper plates along with plastic utensils and chopsticks. “It’s comedic, really. ---It’s warm already, so... unless you like it hot?” she turns, brows raising.
avaselenesawyer:
“I’ll take the track team dude. I mean, I’d really be pushing my acting skills if I had to get all over a blonde — not my thing,” she states with distaste, giving the girl a nudge as she moves past her. “Tell me about it. Assholes have no idea.” She was surprised to find the hallways filled with bodies, people socialising, drinks in hand, some already leaning against the wall, or falling to the floor, testing the limits of their drinking abilities. “—Well, shit,” she breathes, brows arching as she took the entire sight in. “We need a drink.”
“Oh--- and getting all over a blonde is my thing?” she fires back with a laugh and raised brows to match. Surely, labeling Mia would’ve been easier than dealing with her path to self-discovery. Hell, calling it a bumpy road is certainly an understatement. Still, putting labels just didn’t feel right. Yes, she looked at Sawyer differently, but to say she looked at other girls--- Mia couldn’t even recall the last time she thought of anyone worth looking at besides the girl right in front of her. So, after the comment about blondes had left her lips, Mia wondered... Should I try? Busy with her own thoughts, she didn’t realize just how big the party was until they entered the hallway, already backing herself into a wall to avoid any collisions. “You don’t need to tell me twice,” she hurried out in response, grabbing two glowing tubes from a random passing them out. “Bottoms up,” she smiles, handing one to Sawyer, clinking her tube against hers. Head tilted back, Mia downs the liquid quickly, eyes squinting at the bitter taste. Her eyes fall upon the blonde in mind not too far away from them, smacking her lips together in preparation. “Alright, roomie. See you back in an hour for a report,” she side bumps her, heading towards the blonde.
camibowyer:
“Die?” Cami couldn’t quite figure out if Mia meant literally or as a joke, and a spark of confusion could be seen on her face before she shook her head, chuckling softly. “God, no. We’ve already had a death in the family, I definitely don’t need another. But yeah, I was thinking she and I could redecorate it together. She was at a friend’s house when I put up our tree anyway.” Camille chewed lightly on her bottom lip as she picked a few other ornaments and placed them on her shopping basket. “What about you, Mia? Any big plans for the holidays or you’re not into them?”
Her features froze for a second, wondering if her choice of words had gone passed her common sense. The brunette should’ve known better than to play with the term, knowing Camille’s past and her own, but chose to not dwell on her possible spill. After all, Cami wasn’t the type to reprimand and decided to bring out an apology later, if the slight topic of death still hung in the air. Mia nods instead, agreeing with her thoughts. She can already picture the two decking out their home in Christmas colors with the possible aid of Noah or their other mutual friends. It made her more relaxed, thinking of the two. At her question, the brunette shrugs, looking down as she pretends to be interested in the display before them. “I’m probably working. You know, with holiday pay and everything.” She picks up a few items, putting them back down after a few seconds. Sure, the holiday pay was nice--- but without a family, what was the point? “The department sometimes holds work parties, but I’m not really into it. Working’s easier than being forced to interact with people from different sanctions of the law enforcement.”
