“ah, i won’t feel like im missing out then.” maybe it was just his general irritability. it wasn’t like lucius was known as the most agreeable person. “i’m not much of an afternoon person either. are you always this…effervescent?“ he questioned turning down their offer.

“well, that depends. are you always this… highly objectionable?” bambi rolled their eyes, popping another berry in their mouth and happily eating away as they listened to the older wizard. “seriously, are you purposely a buzzkill or is it subconscious?”

“i don’t consider myself objectionable. but im sure the peanut gallery might feel differently.” he fought back an exasperated groan when they spoke again. sobriety was looking even less appealing than usual. "it's a natural talent of mine."

“i’ll have to take your word for it, as i don’t know what you’re on about.” he spoke smoothly though the irritation was clear in his voice. lucius was more knowledgeable about muggle things than he cared to admit but it was early and the excited nature of the other student’s voice was grating his nerves.

“muggle music,” they informed him before chucking some berries in their mouth to chew on with a smile. “something tells me you’re not a morning person,” bambi commented, offering some raspberries to the slytherin.

”i can’t stop listening to that new abba song, take a chance on me. it’s so good,” bambi hummed, taking their tape out of their portable cassette player and flipping it to the other side. “mum said she might even send me the new bruce springsteen tape next time she writes.”

Malfoy glanced sideways at his wife. She was staring straight ahead, quite as pale as he was, her long, blonde hair hanging down her back, but beneath the table her slim fingers closed briefly on his wrist.

Caradoc felt that he had very little left to lose. He had already lost the love of his life to another, and though she claimed to care for his well-being, it was not reflected in her actions; when his face was beaten to a pulp by her fiancée, her primary concern had been ensuring that Barty would not be expelled. The focus had not been on his inability to breathe. “I never harbored much ill will against you,” he said with a subtle shrug. Lucius might not particularly care about his feeling toward him, but it was still worth getting out in the open. “You were looking out for the well-being of a friend, a noble act, if any.” The laugh was almost hypnotizing, though his expression remained plain— a rare sound for one to hear. He paused, a thoughtful look crossing his face as the gazes of the two young men connected. “–And is ‘remedied’ synonymous with 'lacking’ in this scenario?”

“you hardly horbor ill will toward anyone.” it was a flaw as lucius saw it. with a father such as caradoc’s the malfoy heir was somewhat surprised that the boy prided himself on such a thing.  considering it wasn’t an an issue for lucius himself he chose not to dwell on it. “perhaps, but it seems i can not do much about her taste in suitors.” he’d long grown tired of the entire thing, and was more than willing to allow things to play out whatever way they might. “according to her words she wants nothing more than to be left to her own devices, so why go against that?”

“i’m sure catty us thrown around quite a bit. ” he quipped as he headed out toward the castle grounds. “nothing that will benefit you to know about. i do have a life outside of you.” he replied mimicking her statement from a previous conversation.

“On rounds.” Nodding her head, she chewed on her lip as she came over to him and sighed softly. There was so much she wanted to say, but no way to say it and in the end, she did what she so desperately wanted to do. Hug him. “I miss you, Lucius.”

at first he didn’t react to the unexpected embrace. her words did come as a bit of a surprise to him. but he wrapped his arms around her none the less. “i’m not really sure why. we see each other fairly regularly. we do share a common room.”

“not that you need it.” murmured against her lips before begrudgingly pulling himself away from her. even if her honest intent had been to leave him, he wouldn’t be making it easy. “always so eager to leave me. my feelings are hurt.” lucius took hold of her hand before she could leave his reach. “all i wanted was come back to you and you’re all set to leave me.”
