why are some of you so against canon hot carl. he literally has a mary sue monologue in the first book where he’s like “btw im six foot three and jacked as hell, this is relevant to the plot because you need to know the physics of why this goblin fucking explodes when i jump on it are legit.” like even if his face is mid, that’s still a conventionally attractive man. and he has pretty princess hair now. that guy’s hot and i think we just need to accept it

This is your reminder today that Irene Adler in the original Conan Doyle story is literally not a criminal. She never commits a crime.
Nor is she a seductress in any kind of negative or manipulative sense - she has a mutual relationship with a powerful man who then breaks up with her, and afterwards she keeps protection against him in the form of evidence that the relationship existed. She HAS blackmail material, she even waves it at him threateningly because he treated her like shit, but she never even uses it.
Irene Adler is not a thief, femme fatale, or blackmailer. She's just a cool lady that wants to be left alone.

If your Sherlock Holmes adaptation has a character whose identifying qualities are that she is a seductive criminal in love with Holmes, you have created a character that is basically the literal opposite of Irene Adler and you should name her something else.

"Discowing" was unironically Nightwing's best costume. I'm sorry but it's true. It was the only one that has a completely distinct identity of its own based solely in Dick's character and wasn't just trying to be Batman Lite. Dick was an aerialist, so he dresses like an aerialist. He's a performer and a showman, so he dresses like one. Is it silly looking? Yes, because it's a superhero costume. I don't know if you noticed but Batman has pointy ears and wears his underwear on the outside and he looks completely fucking ridiculous. Get onboard or get the hell outta comics.
I find it really interesting that the (modern?) perception of discowing is not necessarily the authorial intention behind the costume design, bc I believe this is Marv Wolfman himself is scripting the dialogue here:
I think discowing can still be seen as a harmonization of Dick's flashier showmanship and Batman's darker aesthetic.
that said, i do love his finger stripe suit bc it's got incredible visual impact for such a sleek design. You can tell Dick didn't design it himself, ofc, but I like to think it's one of those gifts from someone close to you (Alfred) that you wouldn't get for yourself but you wind up using forever.
