Everything you need to know about my 80’s GIGGS Phasmo AU!
Tango, Impulse, Skizz, and Mr. Joker founded JITS Inc. (Just In Time!™) back in the 70’s. When a workplace accident forced Tango out of active investigations, Imp and Skizz were in need of some new blood; that’s where Grian, Gem, and Scar come in!
Together, the GIGGS team drives around in their custom conversion van (affectionately nicknamed the Giggsmobile), answering calls and reports of hauntings all over the country. Their job? To identify and correctly exorcise ghosts, so that people can get their homes and normal lives back.

THE GIGGSMOBILE
The company van—affectionately nicknamed the Giggsmobile—is a massive custom-outfitted conversion van which I have mostly modeled after the 1980 Chevy Starcraft.
In the center console between the driver and passenger seats at the front is a HAM radio set for communicating with Tango at dispatch back in Phoenix. (Impulse is angling for a car phone, but they are Expensive™ and Tango says that’s not in the budget yet.) Behind the two front seats is the work station; equipment cabinets, a tool rack, and a bulletin board are installed against the wall on the driver’s side. Behind that is a plush three-seat bench for the “newbies”; behind that is the trunk for extra storage and emergency camping equipment.
When Scar joined the team, Impulse had a wheelchair ramp installed under the side double doors that can be deployed or retracted as needed. All of this leaves a large open space in the center of the van, which gives easy access to the cabinets, allows maneuverability for Scar, and also gives the gang a place to pile on the floor in sleeping bags when the nearest motel is too far away.
The whole thing is finished with classic 80’s wood paneling and floor-to-ceiling shag carpet, with the GIGGS Inc. logo emblazoned on the side. It’s big and heavy and has roughly the turning radius of a cruise ship, but as mobile ghost hunting workshops go, it's the best in class.
THE LORE
Before JITS came along—which later became GIGGS—getting a ghost exorcised was an arduous process that could take months. Different ghosts require different techniques to get rid of them, which is why correct ghost identification is crucial. Most investigators operated locally and were only familiar with one or two kinds of ghosts, or maybe a handful of related ones (like the Japanese variants). So if you had a haunting, you’d have to hope that you could find an investigator in your area that knew what they were looking at; and even after correctly identifying the ghost, you’d still have to call an appropriate exorcist to get rid of it.
What Tango, Imp, Skizz, and Joker did was streamline the process. They compiled all known information about every ghost variant, condensed it down into a few tell-tale signs, and kept all their equipment small and portable enough to fit into one vehicle. They could go wherever they needed to, whenever they needed to be there, correctly identify any kind of ghost, and get rid of it for good. It was quick, it was simple, it was relatively cheap, and all of the sudden JITS found themselves in high demand as the top ghost hunters in the nation.
After Tango’s accident (and whatever happened to Joker which I still haven’t figured out), Imp and Skizz kept running investigations on their own for a while before recruiting some fresh blood from the local college. Grian, Gem, and Scar all brought something new and valuable to the company; Gem is a nurse, Scar has a knack for radios and marketing, and Grian just has some weird sixth sense for identifying ghosts. The company rebranded to GIGGS, and the rest is history.
THE GHOSTS
In this AU, ghosts are sorted into four categories, depending on how dangerous they are if they catch you during a hunt.
Iota Class - Safe, cannot hurt you
Delta Class - Slightly dangerous, can be annoying
Omicron Class - Very dangerous, can cause harm and/or injury
Kappa Class - EXTREMELY DANGEROUS, can kill you
Below is a list of all the ghost variants sorted by their threat level, with extra information and exorcism methods. I did my best to take inspiration from each ghost’s local folklore, as well as their unique behaviors in the Phasmo game. The list is incomplete, so if you have any fun ideas for lore and exorcism methods for the remaining ghosts, feel free to suggest them!
Iota Class
Iota Class ghosts are considered “safe”. No Iota Class ghost on record has been shown to cause bodily harm or adverse mental effects during a hunt.
Myling - Scandinavian origin, the ghost of a child killed by its mother, exorcised by giving the ghost a name or finding the corpse and burying it in holy soil
Shade - shy ghost, exorcised by N/A
Delta Class
Delta Class ghosts are considered “mildly dangerous”. Upon capturing a victim during a hunt, Delta Class ghosts can inflict mild unpleasant side effects such as headaches, nausea, and disorientation.
Spirit - exorcised by performing proper funeral rites according to the deceased’s religious beliefs or lack thereof
Yurei - Japanese origin, exorcised by completing funeral rites or resolving the ghost’s unfinished business
Yokai/Obake - Japanese origin, supernatural spirits (Obake can shapeshift), exorcised by performing chinkon ritual to appease the ghost and turn it into a benevolent spirit
Omicron Class
Omicron Class ghosts are considered “dangerous”. Upon capturing a victim during a hunt, Omicron Class ghosts can inflict serious damage such as bodily harm, unconsciousness, hallucination, and temporary insanity.
Hantu - WARNING: CAN CAUSE HYPOTHERMIA, Malay origin, often the ghost of a woman who died in childbirth, exorcised by baiting with ancak—yellow glutinous rice, eggs, roasted chicken, rice flakes, and a doll—and hitting a nail into its head

MISC. WORLD RULES
I’m setting this AU in roughly 1985, so the general state of technology, music, clothing, etc. is pretty much what was available in the mid 80s or earlier. I might bend the rules a little bit and borrow some stuff from the late 80s on occasion, but I’m trying to avoid it.
In this AU, death is not cheap. Kappa Class ghosts can and will kill you, and it’s permanent. There’s a possibility that the monkey paw and tarot cards can bring you back, but it’s risky, and you really don’t want it to come to that point. GIGGS has been careful (or lucky) enough to make sure no one has ever died on the job; Skizz has the highest number of “workplace injuries” in the company, but he has never been killed by a ghost. (Yet.)
Different kinds of ghosts can have different reasons for haunting a place. Sometimes they’re conjured up by summoning circles or use of black magic. (These often turn out to be Kappa Class.) Other times they’re the spirits of people who died unnatural deaths and came back to haunt their homes. And other times they’re simply local restless spirits that got cheesed off for one reason or another. The GIGGS team works closely with the police and reports any signs of criminal activity; it’s not uncommon that they’re dealing with the aftermath of murders.
Ghost hauntings are about as common as termite infestations. Not everybody has them, but you probably know someone who did, and you know it was a big deal. If you asked, most people would tell you that they don’t believe in ghosts, but they’re still not going to go into the haunted house. Y’know. Just to be safe. Some people might raise an eyebrow at the GIGGS team, wondering how on earth they make a living off a fairy tale—but the second a Poltergeist is banging around the house and literal crap hits the fan, all of the sudden those weirdos in the van are exactly the people that everyone wants to see.

a quick psa to anyone recently getting into greek mythology and is a victim of tumblr and/or tiktok misconceptions:
-there is no shame in being introduced to mytholgy from something like percy jackson, epic the musical or anything like that, but keep in mind that actual myths are going to be VERY different from modern retellings
-the myth of medusa you probably know (her being a victim of poseidon and being cursed by athena) isn't 100% accurate to GREEK mythology (look up ovid)
-there is no version of persephone's abduction in which persephone willingly stays with hades, that's a tumblr invention (look up homeric hymn to demeter)
-as much as i would like it, no, cerberus' name does not mean "spot" (probably a misunderstanding from this wikipedia article)
-zeus isn't the only god who does terrible things to women, your fav male god probably has done the same
-on that note, your fav greek hero has probably done some heinous shit as well
-gods are more complicated than simply being "god of [insert thing]", many titles overlap between gods and some may even change depending on where they were worshipped
-also, apollo and artemis being the gods of the sun and the moon isn't 100% accurate, their main aspects as deities originally were music and the hunt
-titans and gods aren't two wholly different concepts, titan is just the word used to decribe the generation of gods before the olympians
-hector isn't the villain some people make him out to be
-hephaestus WAS married to aphrodite. they divorced. yes, divorce was a thing in ancient greece. hephaestus' wife is aglaia
-ancient greek society didn't have the same concepts of sexuality that we have now, it's incorrect to describe virgin goddesses like artemis and athena as lesbians, BUT it's also not wholly accurate to describe them as aromantic/asexual, it's more complex than that
-you can never fully understand certain myths if you don't understand the societal context in which they were told
-myths have lots and lots of retellings, there isn't one singular "canon", but we can try to distinguish between older and newer versions and bewteen greek and roman versions
-most of what you know about sparta is probably incorrect
-reading/waching retellings is not a substitute to reading the original myths, read the iliad! read the odyssey! i know they may seem intimidating, but they're much more entertaining than you may think
greek mythology is so complex and interesting, don't go into it with preconcieved notions! try to be open to learn!
It's also worth nothing that the Greek World was not a monolith, it was a collection of city-states, each with their own societies and variations on Hellenic culture; Gods and Goddesses had radically different personalities and portfolios from island to island, and even between different cults on the same island. The modern accepted interpretations we see today are synthesized from later writers like Ovid, who were attempting to codify a specific Greek pantheon and culture from the disparate societies around the Aegean.

The elevator pitch:
The sun rises, and the moon rises, and the sun sets, and the moon sets, all between the Four Horizons of the world. One to each cardinal direction, and each with it’s own continent: Equinox to the North, Solstice to the south. Sunrise to the East, Sunset to the West. Civilizations rule the Land of the Sunrise, the Birthplace of Day and Night. Empires rule the Land of the Sunset, the Resting Place of Day and Night. Hermits and Emperors make peace and war, trade and explore, live and die and make merry in this First Dimension. The Second, the Nether Below, and the Third, the End Above, are lands of danger ripe for discovery. The lands to the north and south, however… who knows what’s over there, leagues past the vanishing point of plain sight?

What is the Horizon to Horizon AU?
The Horizon to Horizon AU, or more simply Horizons AU, is an alternate universe fusion containing the characters within the Hermitcraft SMP, Empires SMP, and Evolution, or Evo SMP. It is a high-to-mid fantasy setting, with some sci-fi elements when it comes to redstone.

Who’s who in this universe?
Between the Horizons, there are two major groups: the Hermits of the Sunrise, and the Emperors of the Sunset. This AU was made during Season 9 of Hermitcraft and Season 2 of Empires, and more specifically was born from a question that came into my mind during the crossover event: What would happen if the Hermits were tasked with ruling nations, like Emperors?
The emperors are pretty much doing the same thing they usually do: ruling empires. But the hermits are split into two main camps: those active in the crossover, who I arbitrarily chose to rule their own civilizations (as having a civilization for each hermit would be… some nonsense), and those not active in the crossover, who live among the civilizations, but do not rule. And what is the Saints of Eyes and Ears AU?
The Saints of Eyes and Ears AU is… sort of its own thing, and sort of a part of Horizons. It is a retelling of the events of the Life Series SMP through a semi-historical, semi-legendary lens as the cosmology/history of a religion known as Livolutionism. It is mostly based on the history-legends of Christianity, more specifically Catholicism, as that religion is the one I am most familiar with.
The elevator pitch:
In the time before time, when the world was small and the gods were close, an endless line of descendants of descendants lived and died under a sky full of eyes. Saints and sinners, lovers and enemies, bitter rivals and soulbound comrades have lived a thousand lives beneath the watchful gaze of the angels above, and demons below. But what an angel or devil is up to interpretation, as are their opaque intentions.
This will probably get its own post later down the line.
Okay, what are those legends?
The events of the various installments of the life series are collected into various books, which are self-contained tales that each follow a specific Saint, the winner of that particular installment, and the world and people that grow and flourish and crumble and die around them. The books and their Saints are as follows:

Going with the "Grian is the one who designed this game as opposed to the others" headcanon, it makes you think about the superpowers he gave his friends, how they were all laughing and having fun in the beginning, and that was intentional. It goes to show that even when forced to design the death game his friends are put through (a punishment for trying to usurp the Watchers time and time again), he still cares. They all know he's the one who designed this game, and he hopes they realize the little mercies he's giving them.
He gives Cleo the power to bring people back from the dead, just so he can have a chance to see his best friend again.
He gives Pearl the power to fly, and hopes she appreciates having her wings back, if only for a short time.
Jimmy gets to go invisible because Grian knows the Watchers aren't happy with the curse being broken. He wants to protect him.
As for Martyn? Grian doesn't really know a lot about what's going on with him and the Listeners, but he might as well try to strengthen that connection in the little ways he can without arising suspicion.
He says it himself in the beginning, "let's not forget this is a PVP series," but it sounds hollow even to his own ears. It's pandering to the watching eyes, making them think the lighthearted fun is all unintentional.
He falls out of the sky with the wings he gave to Pearl, and he wonders if the Watchers are starting to catch on.
Even if the strike is over, don't suddenly go silent. Every moment you aren't speaking up or doing something is more Palestinians being murdered and having their land and their culture bulldozed and silenced. They deserve liberation and the freedom to live in the land their ancestors have ALWAYS occupied. Keep speaking out, keep being angry, and keep fighting to help someone your age who don't have the privilege to even see this post, to use this site, or to eat the dinner or be sitting on the bed you're currently allowed to as you see this. They and their families are dying.
Neutrality is NOT helpful or productive. Neutrality is siding with the oppressors, regardless of your words. Neutrality is standing back because a matter "doesn't concern you", "isnt your place", or you "dont like politics", which allows innocent civilians to be brutalized and murdered and starved. Talk to friends and family. Stop turning to celebrities to provide you with facts and opinions on the situation. Take accountability and action for yourself amidst this crisis
There is still hope. Say it out loud. Palestine will be free. The Palestinian people will celebrate their culture and heritage with each other. We will love and be loved. Do not fall into the trap of despair.
