Hundreds of women from the Yazidi religious minority in Iraq have been taken captive to be sold or married off to extremist fighters, according to the spokesman for Iraq’s Human Rights Ministry, Kamil Amin. "We think that these women are going to be used in demeaning ways by those terrorists to satisfy their animalistic urges in a way that contradicts all the human and Islamic values," says Amin. About 50,000 Yazidis — half of them children, according to U.N. figures — fled to the mountains outside Sinjar where many of them remain trapped, and are running out of food and water. Late Thursday, the U.S. military cargo jets dropped humanitarian aid to the mountain. Read more via The Huffington Post.

A new Indian domestic violence campaign features three Hindu goddesses bearing the scars of physical violence - cuts, bruises, blood smears, followed by a phone number people can call to report abuse. It is a call by the anti-trafficking organization Save our Sisters to raise awareness about the 68% of women in India who are victims of domestic violence.  This poster is of the goddess Durga, worshipped for her strength and invincibility.  Read more about it: http://huff.to/1fEbSNd and tell us, what do you think of this campaign?

When then-8-year-old Vivienne Harr saw a photo of two young boys with large stones strapped to their heads, she asked her parents about it. That is how she first learned about slavery and the rampant

So for 173 days straight, Vivienne decided to Make a Stand, and sold lemonade to her friends, family, and neighbors to raise money to donate to help eradicate child slavery.

In her own words:

"on day #173, i made my goal and wrote a check for $101,320 to not for sale. (well i wrote it, but my parents had to sign it! hee!) then, my parents said: “honey, you did it. you’re done!" i said: “is child slavery done?" they said “well, no." i said: “then i am not done." "
