something so fucked up about Chat Noir’s whole deal is that he is in a lot of ways Adrien playing a character. Like Adrien picked up his miraculous and was told he’d be a superhero so he was like “ok, time to act like a superhero!” and he lets himself have fun w it and play up the role and let loose and kind of just allow himself to be silly and goofy and have fun and for once in his life not care about performing Perfection™.

But. But none of the other characters KNOW THAT. So everyone just sees Chat Noir and is like “look at this guy’s ego. He’s so full of himself. Surely it’d be fair to knock him down a few pegs” without being aware of how few pegs he actually HAS. He’s like the “insecure character who overcompensates in ego” trope except he’s really not doing it unironically, he’s just having a fun LARP pretending to have self worth in his off-hours but nobody else is on the same page about it being a game and he refuses to tell them. He just dramatically pouts about it and lets them laugh and pretends like he’s not internalizing it and it is almost 3 am and my brain forced me to write this instead of sleeping I’m gonna take a melatonin

I like to imagine that post-reveal Marinette realizes this with dawning horror and Ladybug goes from “playfully roasting chat noir and also not really intervening when others roast him more seriously” to being “suddenly and aggressively protective of Chat Noir for reasons nobody else understands”

Chat Noirs like “I’m the sexiest coolest and most awesome cat in the entire mewniverse and everyone’s just jealous ;3c” and another hero opens their mouth to playfully retort and Ladybug snaps her head to them like “WHAT??? YOU GOT A PROBLEM WITH HIM BEING THE SEXIEST COOLEST AND MOST AWESOME CAT IN THE ENTIRE MEWNIVERSE?????? DO YOU???? HUH???? BECAUSE YOURE JEALOUS???????”

Marinette had saved up for months to be able to afford this vacation. Not only that, but she’d spent months trying to convince herself that it was okay to even take a vacation, that Monarch was really and truly gone. Even though it’d been years since anyone had seen him, she’d never truly felt comfortable leaving Paris without a guardian for an extended length of time.

Which was why Tikki was at home with Alya, so that Marinette could actually relax and enjoy the plush amenities the hotel had to offer, such as a bed that looked like it cost five times her monthly salary.

Or, she would be able to enjoy it, if she wasn’t standing in the middle of the villa she’d booked over a month ago, fighting for the bed with freaking Chat Noir, of all people.

Any other time, she would have been ecstatic to see him—to confirm in the flesh that he was still here, still real, still breathing. She’d waited nights and nights and nights for him to finally come and meet her; wasted hours dreaming of running to wrap her arms around him and never letting him disappear again.

But those dreams were Ladybug’s, not Marinette’s. Chat Noir was supposed to meet her on their rooftop or on top of the Eiffel Tower or really anywhere along her patrol route, but he was supposed to return to Ladybug.

He wasn’t supposed to be in Marinette’s hotel room of all places, insisting it was his.
