Hokkaido Lake Shikotsu Ice Festival.
This shrine gate was HUGE.
Penguins in Asahiyama Zoo around 2-3 hours away from Sapporo. We got to see them walk a lap around the zoo~
Otaru Light festival2017
Susukino Snow Fetsival Ice culptures
Some of the things you would have seen during the Sapporo Snow Festival.
From Feb 1 to 12.
Presents I received during my birthday! 14 JAN!
I got to celebrate the once in a lifetime Coming of Age Day (Seijinshiki) of Japan! It included a Taiko Drum presentation and a cheerleading performance which were awesome, some unintelligible (from my POV) Japanese speech thing and.... a lottery. Sadly I did not win.
For new years, we celebrated it buy eating late dinner in a Izakaya, then going to Odori for the countdown and heading to the Hokkaido Shrine for our fortunes.
P.s. I got the Best Luck of them all~
We also went to a mini vacation 4 days 3 nights to a tow called Niseko. It is a popular ski village overrun by Australians. Took some lessons here but they only offered group lessons for skiing in Japanese which was cheaper than the one on one lesson they offer in English. Still had to pay a lot of money for the sport though but it was worth it!
It was also my first time spending Christmas away from my family, but thanks to all my friends who were with me during the first half of my stay here in Hokkaido!
First time Skiing~
Asarigawa - the cheapest skii during my trip around 5000 yen only for the lifts for a whole day plus the rental for equipment since I already had clothes.
It was fun and not at the same time since I did not know how to ski and my friends are less than great at being teachers but are great friends, although this day made me think they were trying to kill me.
Just part of our curriculum a beer factory visit!
Some park illuminations during the December Christmas Winter Illumination festival in Odori Park
Asahiyama Sunset Hike
In my stay here in Sapporo, I have gone only twice to go ice skating even if there is a rink near me. It still takes around 25 minutes or so but it is just going straight east. It costs around 800 yen each time to go and I probably last only two hours or so even if I had ice skating experience in the Philippines.
Also apparently here, it is mandatory to wear gloves while ice skating!
Cat cafes are very popular here in Japan and I was lucky enough to be able to go and have fun in one. We basically just sat around for an hour and a half playing with hard to get kitties.
