WHO IS READY FOR THE RETURN OF THE MIGHTY NEIN?
Just wanted to check in during this hiatus to say be kind, love one another (from a distance 🎵), and is it over yet?
💜,
Rockett
Little Widojest Things, Ep. 99
- Even though it’s Caduceus working on Fjord’s revivify, Caleb tilts him up towards Jester
- Jester requesting the dancing lights and him immediately casting it without question, tailoring it green specifically for her (ahem) Fjord focus.
- Both of them immediately being on the same page about dropping the Uk’otoa sphere into the volcano at TravelerCon
- It’s becoming fairly regular that Caleb jumps to cast Fortune’s Favor on her ASAP when she does something (that she’s told them she’s going to do, anyway)
- Jester’s genuine concern that Caleb may get bitter and hateful like the other wizards as he gains power, and his subsequent shutdown at her calling him nice (and again when she asks if he’s butted other things with the other wizards, hyuck hyuck)
- Both being on the same page about sending a message to the Bright Queen - and him matching Jester’s enthusiasm (in his own way)
- Jes teasingly encouraging him to hug Beau properly
Random person: Why do you ship Widojest?
Anti: cause their het and love the MPDG trope
Me: because they see each other, and they have a chance for equal growth together, and both can see each other for their true selves, Caleb being the first one to point out Jesters mask, and Jester saying she liked him now and that he's nice, the way Jester is vulnerable and opens up to Caleb in private, the fact that Caleb doesn't critizies her relationship with the Traveller and trusts that she trusts him, the amazing quote of "she could punch you through a wall" Caleb said about her, Jester buying him alot of magic supplies, Caleb trusting Jester to get his outfit first, Caleb laughing for basically the first time the group has seen at Jesters joke, Jesters constant teasing whenever he talks to Essek or literally a random assembly women last episode, the fact Jester backed off with her flirting after Caleb accidentally called her Astrid?
Anti: but... Age gap
Me: you mean the age gap that's the same or really close to Matt and Marisha? Because we don't technically know Jesters age only that it's between 21-27
Anti: ...
Little Widojest Things, Ep. 98
- When Fjord is complimenting Marion and saying he sees where Jester gets it from, the look on Caleb’s face speaks volumes
- the brow waggle when she says he put Essek in chains
- He seems not the most amused at walking in on Fjord and Jester having dinner alone together (for the briefest of moments, he almost looks somewhat... disappointed? heartbroken? too late?)
- The panic setting in when Jester’s like “oh, you’re so smart” RE: the elite ninja force idea
- the discomfort when she’s teasing him that Essek said he was just thinking about Caleb kissing him on the forehead
- Jes adoring the thought of Caleb preserving their fancy outfits in amber
- “Jester is like the glue...”
- Caleb once again making sure Jester does not hear or know about his checkered past
- “Do you remember when we sank our own ship?” Caleb asks Fjord this, and I can’t help but wonder if there’s a double-meaning here. (see previous post for why)
If I missed anything during combat, feel free to tack it on!
God I love how every fandom has a small group that is like “you MUST be absolutely caught up on every episode to be a True Fan” and yet I come to Critical Role and I have yet to meet a single person who has seen the entire thing top to bottom. It’s just like…..
“where’d you start?”
“what’d you miss?”
“ here’s the recaps I use and a wiki with a somewhat complete guide and this cool Nott/Veth divided down the middle cosplay I found while searching.”
“ Who is hot boi and why is he called that? *three replies and one thirsty fanart later*.”
“Yes, he is in a leprechaun costume and here’s the edit of the other times he’s done this for some of the context, and the links to his Australian and Italian jokes for more context. No, it still won’t make sense, but it will make more sense.”
“Why yes, there ARE some spinoff one shots and they’re short enough to actually watch the whole thing, can you imagine?”
It’s so weird and yet so delightful being in a fandom where everyone involved has sizable gaps in their fandom knowledge and we’re all just rolling with it.
god…could you imagine being an outsider, someone who has only heard tale of the mighty nein, witnessing them go absolutely feral?
like imagine being a bystander on that ship when Fjord hits the deck and goes unconscious, bleeding and breathless and dragged around the ship and staining the grain of the wood with his blood. imagine standing there in the pounding rain and deafening thunder and hearing Beau’s anguished screams above all of that as she leaps onto the back of a creature and starts smashing their face in. imagine being primary witness to Yasha breaking that creature’s neck and then leaving the body floating like a warning without so much as looking squeamish about it. imagine being caught in the glow of Caduceus’ beetles as they devour skin and sinew and muscle and leave nothing but bone behind. imagine having to watch a creature’s flesh and muscle dissolve in a sickly green glow as it turns to ash while Caleb floats above the chaos in the rain and leaving damaged enemies in his wake. imagine waking up to a wall of blades ready to cut down anyone even remotely unfamiliar to the cheerful blue tiefling that is Jester Lavorre. imagine watching Veth Brenatto fling herself into battle only to disappear seconds later into shadows and yet the nearby enemies are suddenly impaled with stunningly accurate crossbow bolts and howling in pain.
imagine having heard about how the mighty nein helped broker peace talks between warring nations and then bearing witness to how absolutely ruthless and merciless they are when someone so much as dares to threaten one of their own - and being left wondering why they of all people are brokering peace. imaging hearing tale and whisper of their battle exploits and wondering how many of those legendary speculations were born from the simple rage that overtakes them in a desperate vie to save their family.
imagine not being privy to their pasts and the things that it took to get them here and still witnessing them absolutely murder their enemies to avenge Fjord. like what would you even think in that situation?
98 spoilers, look away if you haven’t watched
Did anyone else feel like the combination of walking in on them having dinner alone together, his reveal of his past, and his belief that his feelings are useless, that Caleb was essentially telling Fjord he should be the one of them that pursues Jester during their one-on-one convo on the ship? (Of the pair of them, because I’m not entirely sure Caleb realizes anyone else is also on-board the Jester train?) To me it felt like one of those “I know you’re the better man” convos, and just... my heart, y’all. It b r e a k s, especially with how the episode ended. T^T
god essek walked onto that ship expecting to be handed the rope to hang himself with and instead they handed him a mirror
marisha ray’s liveshow outfits
uthodern + dangerous liaisons + the stalking nightmare + darrington brigade + the fancy and the fooled
“You are a broken person who had ill intentions and wandered aimlessly into a path you had no idea how to complete. And yet somehow, along the way, you found a heart. You sound like all of us. Welcome to the Mighty Nein”
Self indulgent. I just like the contrast between the PINK and the BLACK and these two are always cute whatever.
matt mercer was setting up for a second waltz and nothing and no one can convince me otherwise
you’re telling me
they’re dressed in fancy ass clothes
at a fancy ass party
and jester’s mom
is singing in zemnian????
Little Widojest Things, Ep. 97
- Jester’s suggestion to let Nott eat Frumpkin
- Caleb asking her to tie her shoe as a distraction for him listening in via Frumpkin
- not outright saying ‘no’ to her idea to talk up Essek at the party to make him reveal himself
- “I forgot to ask Martinet if he wanted a tattoo.” “That sounds like party chit-chat to me.”
- the very soft look he gives when Marion says Jester is the gem she was always meant to be
- jumping in to back up Jester saying the Traveler is real
- Caleb seeming to get lost in buttering up Marion, as his compliments can easily be applied to Jester just as much
- joyfully giving Jes the go-ahead to “glitterbomb” Nott
- the pair of them (and Fjord) going to the wizard’s tower for a bit of spell shopping
- Jester being just as excited as Caleb when he gets the spell he’s after
- Caleb giving Jester money to dress him for the party and absolutely trusting her to do a good job
- her being incredibly proud when presenting him the outfit, and him being taken aback that it was, in fact, a good job
- the entire top table clinking glasses in celebration of Jester confronting Sharp
- both of them panicking at each other when they manacle Essek
- both of them taking the lead on interrogating Essek and sort of playing Good Cop, Bad Cop (her sweetness, his not-so-subtle threats)
- both of them touching Essek delicately to get their point across
I really hope they go back to the party to get Marion and reprise their waltzing scene T^T
vox machina was like 90% "what's a team composition" and the might nein accidently created an unbeatable wall of perfect team build and i love it
Someone tagged my post saying that with Vox Machina each of them was their own hero, and the Mighty Nein have never really felt like that. All of them are just there to watch out for each other. Their first instinct is to protect each other, rather than defeat the opponent. It means that as the DM you can’t really target individual people because you’re always interacting with the whole group and their abilities. You want to break the clerics’ concentration on Bless before you target any of the melee fighters, but the melee fighters have an ability that prevents you from leaving their range, so you attack the half-orc, but sucks to be you, because his armor fights back, and before you know it you have twelve crossbow bolts in your torso and your whole shit is on fire from two idiots who you’ve barely even seen on the battlefield.
Some of y'all really can't let us have a win, can you? Jesus H. Macy.
