Ok, I LOVE the idea and look of the changelings from MLP and I’ve always wanted to expand on their lore and story potential. So here she is! (Please note all of this is the first draft sooo it’s got alot a holes and issue I haven’t found yet..)
Elytra, High Queen of the Changelings. She is responsible for each of the welfare of the Four Hives and their people. Keeping the other queens in line, she maintains contentment within her people, making sure they are feed, healthy, and at peace. All big decisions come down to her, who is allowed in the hive, who is cast out, what punishment a criminal is given, and what action should be taken when their people are in danger.
She has ruled for 5,000 years, 900 years past her time to step down. But when increasing conflict and unrest spread through her people and all of Equestria, none of the queens believe it safe to let an inexperienced princess rule. Than the Windigos came, feeding off the hatred and conflict between the Ponies. As the world was covered in snow, it was concluded they could not defeat the Windigos, not with the amount of hate that was spreading, so they decided to hide under the earth and wait for the Equestria to thaw.
As they stayed, hiding in the caves and mountains, they feed off of fungi and the love between themselves, but that wasn’t enough. Without the Love shared between the other people and creatures in Equestria, they slowly began to starve. Returning to the surface was the only option to survive. But with the likes of The Pony of Shadows, Discord, Sombra, and Nightmare Moon all clawing for power, even the caves were safer. They hid themselves deeper, in hopes that the monsters above wouldn’t find them. The surface world became a ghost story to tell young grubs to keep them from straying to far from their caretakers.
Eventually, Equestria, now under the rule of Princess Celestia, found peace. As this news trickledown into the Hive, returning to the surface became a terrifying and exciting prospect. Yet, as peace ruled above, the festering wish for powe resided in the queens, specifically one queen.
Queen Chrysilis, the Fourth and Lowest queen. Her duty was to inforce the punishment of criminals and settle conflicts within The Hive. As she learned of the conflicts above, the idea of power began to grow more and more inticing. When news of Sombra loosing control over the Crystal Empire reached her, it finally clicked, and she began to gather her changelings, promising them food and fulfillment on the surface if they leave with her. Once Discord’s return and subsequent defeat finally hit, she took her minions and fled to the surface, planing her clow for power.
The Hive was in uproar. The remaining three queens were stunned and panicked, their people remaining people protesting and demanding change. With their people sick and undernourished, threatening to rebel, Elytra made the decision. They would return to the surface and ask the Ponies for help. But by the time they imerged, Queen Chrysilis had already tried, and failed, to seize control over Canterlot. Hatred and fear of Changelings spread quickly and aggressively, forcing the queens to once ahead go into hiding, this time on the surface. If they were discovered by the ponies, a war could break out, but going into the caves would surely spell out the starvation of their people. The safest choice, was to remain hidden, feeding off the ponies love from afar.
