My Beloit International Film Festival

My name is Courtney and I am intern at the Beloit International Film Festival. Based out of Beloit, Wisconsin, BIFF is a ten-day long festival that celebrates the art of independent filmmaking. Beloit natives and visitors from across the country to enjoy these films from around the globe. In 2014, the festivals enjoys works from Brazil, South Africa, Spain, United Kingdom, and more. On this page I will be recording my experience as a BIFF intern and sharing special information about the festivals films and events. Enjoy and join us from Feb. 14-23 to experience BIFF!

Last Saturday, we had our event at the Hampton Inn - Beloit for our community partners. We showed them clips of the upcoming films and handed them their tickets. We are so excited to see what our Community Partners can do for our viewership!

Community Partners

The largest project I have worked on so far has been the Community Partners program.  

After studying other great, successful festivals, BIFF's team came up with a plan to get the Beloit community more engaged in the festival. Community Partners is an initiative to have some of Beloit's local businesses and grass roots organizations to promote films and get their costumers and the Beloit community as a whole, more aware and excited about BIFF. 

Myself and the other interns have personally gone to all of the businesses and organizations involved and asked them to be a part of this amazing program. We identified the businesses in the community that we thought would be best at reaching out to potential festival goers and exciting people about BIFF. From there, we created a plan for what these Community Partners would do for us and what we would give them in turn. 

This was my first time doing anything like this and I was so nervous to actually solicit anything to real business owners. As a student, it is often nerve wracking to try things that have real-life consequences-- as opposed to the threat of a poor grade. But that is what my senior has been about: finding ways to gain real-life experience while I still have the comfort of being a student. At this point, it doesn't matter as much if I make mistakes, that's what this time is for.

Welcome

Hello, BIFF Fans!

Presumably, you are here to find out more about the Beloit International Film Festival and you've found the right place.

My name is Courtney and I am a senior at Beloit College in Beloit, Wisconsin. Back in August, before Fall semester began, I decided that I would do something cool with my last 8 months as a college student if it was the last thing I did. So, in my search for things on campus to do, an internship was brought to my attention. It wasn't on campus but actually right in downtown Beloit and it was too cool for me to pass up. It was a posting for a social media internship at the Beloit International Film Festival. It sounded perfect for me and I was excited to reach out. Thankfully, I quickly received a response from our Creative Director, Kristin Peterson expressing interest in my offer. Within a week I had settled on regular hours for me to come in and work with Kristin herself, Rod, our Executive Director, and the rest of the intern team. 

From that time until now, mid January, I have received some of the most useful experience I've had yet in my college career. From recruiting local businesses as film sponsors to contacting merchandising companies, I have learned about myself and my abilities to work as a team in real life situations-- invaluable lessons.

On this blog you will find you pictures, videos, and written accounts of things I have experienced and my future experiences as an intern at the Beloit International Film Festival. Official previews of the film's selections will be available to you as well as dates of screenings. I will post reminders and write-ups on festival events leading up to and during BIFF's run from February 14-23.
