Hobbiton inspiration

Today I was a real tourist and I visited the Hobbiton movie set in New Zealand. Apart from the obvious hobbit like creations that have been constructed with massive attention to detail there were also some amazing real features that are maintained to keep the set and magic alive. As I walked around I took some pictures of the plants, flowers and the hobbit holes themselves. I hope to use these pictures as inspiration to create my own hobbit hole setting. I also visited some unbeliaveble geothermal areas yesterday which included a geothermal stream and waterfall, basically mother nature’s answer to a jacuzzi. I am hoping to use these amazing experiences to recreate my own scene. Wish me luck.

One way I had to get creative today was by coming up with a workout. I try and exercise as much as life on the road allows me. I had a whole field to myself (and my boyfriend) which isn't particularly hard in New Zealand I suppose haha. Sometimes thinking of exercises on the spot is hard and breaks my workout cycle but luckily I know all Joseph Pilates original 34 moves off by heart. What did you do to be creative today?

Are you a creative?

This is my attempt (ongoing journey) at finding a solution, or at least starting a conversation, about my problem. My creative problem. My name is Georgia and I am a 25 year old British Girl currently unemployed traveling the World. I love everything about my life and have no regrets about anything I have ever done, I like to think I am a positive thinking person. I enjoy the excitement of life on the road a lot but am as equally excited to return home and resume some sort of “normal life”. However, some might say I am currently experiencing a quarter life crisis. I have followed the common cliché in that I have quit my insanely dull 9-5 job in order to find myself in the big wide World (backpacking) but that’s where the cliche stops. Yes I have learnt few things about myself along the way but to be honest, it has just confirmed what i already knew. The one thing I secretly hoped I would find in myself was my elusive Creative Genius. Maybe traveling for 1 year and 3 months has given me too much time to ponder the issue….

Now I honestly do not want my first ever blog post to be all doom and gloom but I would really love to hear if other people are experiencing my problem (am I allowed to call it that?) or is this all part of my so-called quarter life crisis?

I would love one day to run my own business and feel capable after earning myself a degree in Business Management but when it comes to the creative side of owning a business, I feel completely at a loss. I’ve read many articles which feature Creative Directors who are normally at the driving point of said business. I can’t help but ask myself what is it they do? What is their 9-5 job? How did they get to that point in their career? I always seem to stop myself when I see the control freak in me getting hotter and hotter.

I’m not asking for overnight success, to become Instafamous or even for somebody to give me an answer to my problem but what I am looking for is to understand if other people crave this creativeness that seems to come natural to so many others (and also the basic ability to know what to draw if I’m handed a pen and paper- what even is doodling!) Maybe people who aren’t naturally intelligent struggle with their intellect as I do with creativity?

I’m sure, like me, many females of my age and probably a lot older and younger, have an Instagram timeline and Pinterest board full of inspiration and motivational quotes but still don’t know how to tap into their creative channel. On my subconscious creative journey I have so far subscribed to entrepreneurial magazines, watched close to all of TED’s leading thinkers talks, I’ve even deleted my Facebook account because maybe (possibly, hopefully!) this was what was blocking my creative thinking. And yes, I feel more inspired than ever but also more and more frustrated. Ironically, I have even googled a step by step guide on how to be creative (cue embarrassed wide eyed emoji). Maybe I will book myself on one of those creative thinking day courses… (only half joking!)

The question I want to throw out there is: are we born to be creatives or is it a skill/way of thinking we learn along our journey? If so i want a slice of it!

How to be more Creative!

Sometimes being creative can be challenging. Here are just a few steps that I take to keep the creative juices flowing.

 1. Write down your ideas in a notebook

2. Surround yourself with other creatives

3. Listen to Music

4. Go Somewhere new

5. Stop trying to be exactly like someone else.

A simple method for having more epic ideas

If you want to innovate on the same level as Elon Musk, Thomas Edison, Marie Curie, Steve Jobs, or IDEO CEO Tim Brown, pursue many varying interests at the same time.

Pursuing a number of diverse interests is an effective way to gain insights, stumble on atypical solutions to problems, and stay creative.

Elon Musk is a prime modern-day example of this point. Musk works not only in the realm of digital money exchange (he co-founded PayPal), he’s also heavily involved in rocket science and space travel (SpaceX), electric motors and energy storage (Tesla), and the future of high-speed travel (Hyperloop).

If you look at the histories of the greatest innovators, a similar pattern makes itself clear. Leonardo da Vinci, for example, didn’t just paint the Mona Lisa and The Last Supper, he also built conceptual machines for flight and war, worked with solar energy, and conceptualized a rudimentary theory of plate tectonics.

Having diverse pursuits helps propel innovation in three primary ways: it promotes proactive procrastination, encourages cross-pollination of specialties, and keeps a “beginner’s mind.”
