Armitage Primary School- Year 4 Class: Anna, Ayanda, Brandon, Bright, Elvis, Fallou, Faruq, Hassan, Hazel, Idrees, Jahmari, James G, James M, Kimberley, Kofi, Lucy, Mason, Muhanad, Naomi, Quion, Sahend, Saif, Toseef, Tunji, Yolanda, Zane, Zinhie Teacher: Sally Palmer Artist: Yuusuf M’Rabty Throughout this project we shared out experiences and knowledge of Europe through the techniques of poetry and storytelling. They tell of holidays, migration, family and friends, using everything from food, language, sport, and weather to determine what it means to be European. We looked at many styles and forms of writing such as Haiku and Cinquain poems, stories from the senses, rhyming poems and free-writes to capture the whole group’s tales of Europe and what it means to them. The outcome of this process is a soundscape of these honest, and detailed poems and stories recorded and compiled straight from the young people’s mouths. This captures the voice, opinions and experiences of a young Europe.

My Europe Finale Event - Z-arts July 4th 2014
The My Europe project finished with a bang at the finale event here at Z-arts, with the 300 primary school children that had taken part in the project visiting the centre. This included some brilliant performances by Summerville Primary, Roundthorne Community Primary and Crosslee Primary school showing off their dance, drama and music skills!

Yussuf M'Rabty takes Armitage Primary School for their 4th session. The session consisted of looking at the spoken word poetry work that they had done so far, and some very lively and noisy word games.
As well as the 10 primary schools we've been working with as part of My Europe, we are also running two workshops at the hospital School at Manchester Royal Infirmary with artist Gill Balfour. Taking the flags of the European Union as inspiration, the children have been screen printing their own flags. Their flags incorporate the shapes, colours and languages of EU countries into their own colourful interpretations.
We had a brilliant final workshop at Pikes Lane Primary school which saw the children finishing off their stop motion animations and recording their very own sound effects. We also gave out the postcards created by children at the PIO XII primary school in Jerez, Spain, with the class taking turns to read them out and look at some of the pictures of life in Jerez.
We caught up with the workshop at Gorse Hill Primary School Year 4 class last week with Yusra Warsama. The children have been developing short poems/stories which they were performing and recording for their final installation which will be displayed on Friday 4th July for the My Europe finale event at Z-arts.
The workshops with artist Pascal Nichols and Year 4 class at Cheadle Heath Primary School in Stockport got off to a great start last week. Taking inspiration from Pascal's French heritage and the city Lyon, the children began to think about the kinds of architecture they might find there, including the famous building known as 'le crayon' due to it's resemblance to a pencil! Using this as inspiration, the children created their own cityscapes. In the afternoon they began working on creating the building blocks for their own clay city, shaping clay into blocks and thinking about textures they could add. This led us out into the playground where the children experimented with texture using the many surfaces they found around them.
