I always found it interesting the decision to make Zatch lose his consciousness whenever he launches a spell in the series

Crazy to think that for the longest time he just had no idea how any of his spells looked like.

It's like asking a basketball player to make a free throw, but the moment you touch the ball your mind goes blank and once you return the ball is already all the way under the net on the other side of the field, and you just go "Did I get it? Did I miss?"

It really shows how strong Zatch's trust on his partner is that he's willing to leave his unconscious body under his care repeatedly throughout the story. That honestly sounds terrifying, surrendering complete agency over your being over and over and over again, not knowing what's gonna be used for, how, or why.

Reminds me of that Butterfly Effect movie where the first half is just the main lead constantly blanking out and going "What happened??"

It's just a small detail that distinguishes the relationship of the two leads from the rest of the characters of the anime but it works so well to cement the trust they have in each other. Pretty simple, but pretty effective.
