White Fallow Deer in Autumn Light
Quintin Castle at Sunset
A striking Anglo-Norman castle built in 1184, situated along the shores of the Ards Peninsula, County Down, Northern Ireland, about 2.5 miles east of Portaferry. Was used as the location for Castle Stokeworth in 'Game of Thrones' where Jaime Lannister and Bronn hatched a plot to retrieve Princess Myrcella from Dorne.
Crumlin Glen Waterfall pouring like a river of Guinness in Autumn (every Irishman's wish!). The colour of the fall is caused by rainwater having run through peaty bogland.
A beautiful Atlantic Sunset, from the Murder Hole, Boyeeghter Bay, Donegal.
A wild and secretive place.
The Murder Hole, Boyeeghter Bay, Donegal
Deep in Tollymore Forest you will find the gothic Foley's Bridge, built in 1787, which crosses over the Shimna river gorge. It's one of several gothic bridges in this 1600 acre magical woodland at the foot of the Mourne Mountains, near Newcastle, County Down. Popular with the film industry, the forest has been used for filming locations for 'Game of Thrones' and 'Dracula Unbound'.
Sunset, Haulbowline Lighthouse, Carlingford Lough, County Down
‘Guiding Light’
St. John’s Point, County Down, Northern Ireland.
The Wonderful Barn
'The old Oak Tree, the Giant's Ring' This old oak tree sits alone on top of an 11ft high circular earthwork bank called the 'Giant's Ring', that surrounds a henge enclosure 596ft in diameter (6.9 acres), in the middle of which sits a neolithic tomb at least 2700BC consisting of 5 upright stones and a capstone.
‘Under the Dome’
Low tide at (Rough Island) Island Hill, Strangford Lough, Northern Ireland. With about an hour to go before sunset, and the forecast for patchy cloud and rain, convinced myself to take the 25 minute drive to Island Hill. Glad I did! The causeway to the island is exposed for several hours at low tide, and light rain added to the lush colour of the scene. ‘Between the tides, a range of habitats appear from differing grades of mud and sand to boulders and salt marsh. The area is rich in worms, shellfish and other small animals that are a vast food source attracting migratory birds and waders, with some species found in internationally important numbers during the winter. Eelgrass is abundant and is the principle food source of Brent geese, many thousands of which migrate to the Lough during September and October.’
‘Death of an Elephant’
The Murder Hole Beach, Boyeeghter Bay, Donegal
‘Fanad’s Froth’ - The stunning Fanad Lighthouse, Donegal, on a stormy day, with the water churning like a washing machine in a deceptively dangerous ravine.
Grianan of Aileach ancient ring fort.
Noted in the mythologies of Ireland, the fort was first constructed around 1700 BC (probably with earlier earthen walls), by the Tuatha de Danann (also known as the fairy folk) a race of supernaturally-gifted people in Irish mythology.
The Tuatha De Danaan are known throughout ancient Ireland as the people of the goddess Danu (also known as mother). The Tuatha were banished from Heaven because they had learned the knowledge of magic.
They ruled Ireland from 1897 B.C. to 1700 B.C.
It’s an amazing magical place with outstanding vistas.
Milky Way over Dundrum Bay, County Down, Northern Ireland, so lucky to get a spectacular iridium flare through the middle of it!
The iridium flare in the middle of the Milky Way is a direct reflection of the sun’s disk caused by the reflective surfaces (such as solar panels or antennas) of an iridium satellite. The flares can be 20 times brighter than Venus and last from 5 – 10 seconds before the satellite disappears from visibility.
….. or maybe it’s something entering or leaving our star system via a wormhole!
