                                         My New Website Launch

Just a little update about my fun and productive week of rehearsing,  creating new odd shoes, songs and my 23rd birthday celebration/forthcoming gig at Allstar Lanes...

And to top it all off with greek yoghurt, banana & manuka honey, this week has also brought about the launch of my brand new shiny website!

Why not just 'JazZ' anymore, you may ask?

After many an evening conversation in my cosy little Shoreditch abode with my northern irish flatmate (who finally seems to accept, through my brainwashing, that Shoreditch DOES have 'character')... We finally came to the conclusion that as an artist, I was, well, 'ungooglable'. 

No matter how much my music career may soar through the sky, I would never become more famous than my biggest rival; 'Jazz the genre' !

So, with a slightly excitable giggle, I announce my fantastic new website and stage name, 

JazZ Mino ! 

I sincerely hope that you feel as much affection towards them as I do!

                                     Odd Shoes of September!

One cold and rainy evening on 15th September, a lonely pair of plain and boring brown shoes were sitting, helpless in a dark and gloomy wardrobe.

So... I decided to brighten them up, along with the miserable weather! The result? My newest pair of odd shoes, the Rubber Ribbons!

Although they were time consuming, I had so much fun with creating the rubber band shoe! The ribbon shoe was not quite so pleasant; with hours of having finger-bonding nearly misses, to going a little glue-fume dizzy! 

I am so excited to show off these shoes at my next gig at AllStar Lanes, Holborn on Sunday 29th September!

                                            Fruit on the Brain

After the big food and drink binge that has made up most of my merry Christmas and New Year, it's time to give my body a rest.

This week, I am treating my body like a scared temple by taking part in a 7 day juice detox. The detox is a global event created by Jason Vale (aka The Juicemaster) with over 20,000 people taking part!

It's quite exciting to be a part of; delicious vegetable juices and smoothies literally feeding you life and energy! Here's is a little more information for the curious readers:

A side affect as per title; I have fruit on the brain. 

It is day two and I cannot stop thinking about gobbling up my current favourite fruit: blueberries! < This sentence makes me feel a slight pang of guilt, as my long standing preferred fruit has always been the banana! 

As I was drifting way into my own little world today working at Live UK Magazine, an ingenious idea came to me - imagine that different fruits could be mixed to make a new delicious fruit!

Banana and blueberry smoothies taste heavenly - imagine eating one! ... 

And if this was ever possible - What would it look like?!

                                     Odd Shoes of the Week!

So, with all of the festive and new year partying, my beautiful sparkling shoes danced the night away at many a glamorous gig!

Definitely my most flashy and seductive odd shoes; these heels can kick up a fuss in the dullest of places!

The creation process was 'five year old friendly' to say the least:

1. Splatter the shoes wtih glue (second thoughts, even the friendly UHU glue may not be safe in the hands of a five year old) ...

2. Mix up the glitter or sequins (whichever takes your fancy first).

3. Scatter them all over the shoe. (whilst wearing a large, 'insane scientist'-type grin).

4. Leave to dry (preferabley on a windowsill over a radiator to speed up the process) ...

and ... There you have it ...

                                      The Debit Card Thief!! 

A story which is very amusing for all but myself!

After a heavy New Years Eve night at a crazy irish bar (till 7am!!), New Years day arrived along with splitting headaches and cravings for large amounts of 'comfort food'.

So, 'Oh So Posh', 'The Middle Sister', and my other ultra friend I like to call 'Noo Noo', ventured to The Breakfast Club for a well deserved brunch. Unfortunately on arrival, I realised that I had lost my debit card.

After enjoying a delicious breakfast of avocado, poached egg, chorizo and chilli on wholemeal bloomer toast, I went home to search last night's bag for my card.

The debit card could not be found anywhere, so in a panicked-frenzy with thoughts of sneaky Irish men spending my beloved student loan;  I called Lloyds TSB to cancel my card.

Not much of a story, it happens to everybody I guess... 

However! A few days later on a cold winters night, I delved into my 'snuggly sock' draw in search of warmth and comfort...

As I unwrapped a lovely pair of fluffy stripey cuddlies, out tumbled ... My bank card!

I cannot recall why on earth my card was hidden in my socks, I can only assume that at some point on return from NYE - I thought that it would be a very safe and cosy place for it to rest!

                                     Irregular Christmas Gift!

These odd shoes were handmade by my 'Oh So Elegant', 'Posh' and most importantly dearest friend! 

I still can't comprehend how much of a sweet and thoughtful gift this is... she well and truly deserves the title:

'Most Creative Christmas Student on a Budget 2012'!

Upon receiving the present, my 'Oh So Elegant' friend and I discussed that if I were to explode into fame and fortune anytime soon - she would definitely take on the 'Odd Shoe Designer' role.

These will definitely be the 'odd shoes' of my next gig... Maybe the lace and pearls will convince fans that i'm moving up in the world... or perhaps not... ;)

                                               Feeling Festive!

After a long drive from London to Somerset (car DJ - AKA 'the middle sister' blasted out a variety of Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys, Daniel Beddingfield and an operatic duet imitating two fighting cats...), we finally arrived at our tiny tall country house!

My family are keen bakers, and the smell of fresh bread and homemade soup drifted through the cottage as we hung up our coats and hats. 

 After a delicious helping of mulled wine (served in a teapot and sipped through jam jars) 'the middle sister' and I began to bake yet more festive treats; chocolate chip shortbread (she wanted to go for chilli flavour; thankfully I changed her mind), and red velvet, lemon meringue and Reindeer cupcakes!

All of our bakes went down extremely well during the festive period, though mother's freshly baked bread was a little like the 'dead duck' bread in 'About a Boy'. At least she tried though!

            It's Not About How You Look... It's About How You See!

I absolutely love this top. I was merrily 'clock necklace shopping' in Spitalfields Market on a sunny Sunday, when it caught my eye. 

I think i'm a little into the 'owls on clothes' look of late; soon after this little purchase I bought a pale pink wooly jumper with a similar looking owl knitted into it.

This top is probably the least colourful item in my wardrobe, but I adore the design and the message.

As I walk around London I see so many people stuck to their smart phones, missing everything going on around them that this incredible world has to offer. From beautiful flowers, giggles and smiles of young children, the vibrant fruit and veg amongst the market stalls, and even (around my area) the grafitti art. 

Everybody seems so immersed in taking great care with how they look, but just 'making it through the day' with their '9-5' jobs. They then travel home, and sit on furniture... Watching Furniture.

The lack of communication in London is so strange. It's place where smiling at somebody in the street is almost an offence. Cheerful behaviour in general seems to actually ostracise you, and communicating on the tube - Well, it's quite frankly unheard of. (I'm sure, just once you've had the urge to break the silence and burst into song?!) ... Maybe that's just me...

I'm not saying that I don't care for image, or that i'm anti technology because clearly being a musician, the way I look is very important to me... & I honestly couldn't live without my iphone and MacBook pro! 

But I think the owl speaks great wisdom; just sometimes, pop the little bubble that you're hiding inside,  and be present in the world around you.

                                         Odd Shoe Fail

Odd shoe fail. When one has great plans for the next odd shoes, puts them into action... and the plans were so great, that they look like a perfectly matching pair of shoes...

There is no getting round that, although Mr Men & Little Miss are opposites, they also go together like two peas in a pod!

Determined not to give up, I desperately stuck skittles to the front of the Little Miss shoes.. But it just looked useless and makeshift!

So, there we have it - The first odd shoe fail... Though they are still pretty funky!

                                The Worst week in December!

So, after my 'scatterbrain' post, I didn't think that my week could worsen - but, it really did. 

The following day, I was merrily walking along Pitfield St,  wearing my shameful but snug knitted white hat (strings tied under chin for extra warmth), floral harem pants and mittens.

Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeroes were playing in my brand new Bose headphones, whilst I tweeted about having to run away from my adorable ginger cat Frank, so that he wouldn't follow me to Old Street station... (He just doesn't understand why he can't come too..)

When, all in the flash of two seconds I was pushed and my iphone snatched from my hand faster than you can say 'mugged'. I think it was the adrenaline, but somehow I found myself chasing after him.

Sadly for me, no matter how fast I can run... a bicycle is twice the speed! I later realised, he'd also pickpocketed my purse & with his lucky dip, sniped my 'Boy and going Solo', Roald Dahl autobiography! (fuming.com). [note: this is not a website, merely my irregular choice of expression for showing fury].   However, even throughout the shittiest of weeks, listening to Lotte Mullan's 'I'm Alright with Me' can lift the world's worst bad mood! ...

The principal of the song is just so lovely. Her beautiful voice sings of being comfortable in your own skin, no matter what you look like or what anyone says - and i'm a huge advocate of that! 

So, looking on the bright side like Lotte, at least the mugging lowlife didn't steal my headphones! ...

                                      Odd Shoes of the week!

These are my only 'warm' pair of odd shoes. They tend to get worn lots during my winter gigs! Definitely the odd shoes of the week (or even month!) - my feet would be frozen without out them in this cold, busy gigging season! 

I was inspired to create these shoes through frustration of both the reality, and superficiality of life. The magazine boot is my representation of how false the 'celebrity world' can be, encouraging people to become predominantly focused on 'image' and 'hot men'... I'll the run the London marathon the day I see a 'celeb' false-type magazine write about incredible journeys people have experienced, or the top selling inspiring book ... (Oh wait, but I am running the marathon next year... So mags, make a change!)

The newspaper boot was really a contrast for the 'glitzy' magazine boot. When i'm not stuck to dissertation study books, I do find reading/listening to the news interesting... But that is a rare occasion, hence why many say i'm in my own little world! 

But that's the way I like it. Plus, the evening news does begin with 'good evening', and then proceeds to tell you all of the reasons it isn't...

                                             The Breakfast Club 

My favourite place to hang out, meet for coffee, write essays, and eat the most weird and wonderful breakfasts!

When I first discovered BC, it became an obsession.. and probably the principal reason for my lack of summer savings! I would go with my sister, at least three times a week; we just couldn't get enough of the unusual food, not to mention the super chilled, friendly staff. 

Unfortunately, mine and my sisters little breakfast outings ended when she discovered 'Angel' Breakfast Club. I like to describe it as the slimmer, less fashionable sibling of Hoxton BC. My sister and I had to agree to disagree... and that was that! There are also two other Breakfast Clubs:

Spitalfields and Soho... Which

Two more excuses to sip the wonderful 'Virgin Apple Mojito', indulge in 'Ham So Eggsited', or share an 'Elvis' (peanut butter and banana milkshake - dirty but ingenious!)

                                      Odd Shoes of the Week!

I love my tape measured paperclip shoes, they're so colourful and fun!

I created these during my year out of University, when trying to 'find myself as an artist'. Surprisingly, I began to miss essay writing, studying and learning... Which is why I think I leaned towards creative stationary!

The paperclip shoes proved pretty fiddly to make. It took me about 5 near misses of superglued fingers, to begin to use an alternative sticking tool - The eyebrow tweezer!

Never underestimate it's diversity, it got full marks for precision and strength! 

Creating the tape measure shoes was quick and easy. Using a slightly friendlier sticking substance this time ( UHU :D ), the tape measure was snipped into shape, and slid into place! ...

Once finishing the shoe, I just couldn't stop looking at it guiltily. It kept staring at me, looking lonely. So, in the end I gave in and created a little companion - 'The tape measure bow'!

To make the bow, I first wrapped the blue tape around itself, (securing with the friendly glue), made the red tape the same way.. and the rest is history! (Or not, because it's right there in front of you) ...

I could wear my tape measured shoe all day, however, it's partner lets me down by pinging paperclips left, right and centre stage!

                                            The Perks of the Job

So, last summer I began working for Live UK; a crazy busy music business magazine run just off Baker Street. 

There a many perks to the job; interesting creative work, building relationships with key people in the industry, & only a 2 minute walk from the 'Smoked Root Vegetable and Bean' soup, (Pret)! (A foodie passion of mine, so much so, that my sister has renamed me 'Pret a Manger' on her iphone contact list.

The job involves lots of networking, and along with this comes many an invitation to industry related events.

The only downside to these exciting outings are the following working day's productivity...
