The food in Italy was AMAZING. My favorite food dish was the one above with the biggest picture. I would love to experience this in Phoenix but the reason why this food dish was so good was because of the fresh, sweet, amazing tomatoes, cheese and arugula. Also, the balsamic is just so different in Italy. It was thicker and had so much more flavor. I tried one thing out of the ordinary while I was there: horse meat. Before I tried it everyone told me how good horse meat was. The host mom even said in broken English and with the help of a translator that once I tried the meat I would chase my mom's horse around with a gun so I could have more meat. I tried it and it was good but psychologically I could not eat it. I kept picturing a family friend's horse that I used to ride. This horse used to be a race horse and was going to be sold as horse meat for dog food but was instead bought by the friend. I felt like I was eating here and was not hungry anymore. I explained it to my host family and they understood. I think everyone in Italy thinks Americans only eat hamburgers and meat. Many people would ask me questions assuming every meal consisted of a big slab of meat. It was also hard to answer questions like "in America do you have fresh seafood" or "what's the typical Phoenix food." I had to explain that America is so big that no in Arizona we don't have fresh sea food but in places by the coast we do. Also that you can go get Chinese, Japanese, Italian Mexican, Middle eastern, African or basically any type of food and that there isn't one food dish that describes the city. (Maybe some Mexican food).
