I read the Wikipedia article. His crime was pretty much as described. His website facilitated drug sales. He was sentenced to two life terms plus forty years, a punishment that was described as draconian. . Libertarians, lawyers, and crypto currency supporters supported him. He appealed unsuccessfully twice, based on suppressed evidence and asserted Fourth Amendment protection.

Trump promised his pardon to the 2024 National Libertarian convention, and to Ulbricht's mother, but Wikipedia doesn't mention a cash transaction. The irony, of course, is that Trump has also promised death sentences to drug dealers.
