You were an answered prayer at the worst of times
And now what am I to do?
I was just learning how to love myself
But how could I not fall for you?
You were a 3am text on a cold weekend
And I was in an empty bed
(The right answer, here, is almost always no
I couldn’t help saying yes instead)
Yours was the only voice I’d hoped to hear
Any time the phone would ring...
I’m finally truly over you
What harm could come from a fling?
How subtle they are, the signs of your love
And ever so elusive
Prancing around my sleepy eyes
But swiftly avoiding lovesick cries
Confirmation inconclusive
-
How delicate, your forms of affection
And yet wholly devout
In each action, intertwined
But still so subtle, every sign
And I will never doubt

How subtle they are
The signs of a well-lived life
In a happy home

Cracks dusted with gold
The flaws and fragility
Of a well-lived life

Shards of us lay scattered
Amidst the broken dishes
And broken promises
Nothing is ever whole again
And yet, I return
-
We try to piece it back together
Cracks dusted with gold
Scars: our history, untold
We make believe they're signs of merit
And so I return
-
Nothing ever breaks the same
New cracks form, gold fades
New lies bred from old charades
How long until there's nothing left?
We'll see. I return

You weren't what you seemed
I smile; reconcile
And yet, I return

I have to sugarcoat confessions They’re not quite what they seem I need to get them off my chest But I fear they’re too extreme
How much is forgivable? How much makes me a fraud? I have the find the balance - What is acceptably flawed?
I have to spice up my admissions To really set the snare Just a slight exaggeration Pain’s so basic without some flair
It’s a delicate balance Altering a woeful tale Sometimes you lose sight of the truth Leaving your stories cold and stale

Mollify me with
Sugar-coated confessions
And I'll feign belief

The promise of light
Is enough to see me through
The darkest of nights

Praise your good fortune
If you happen to be blessed
With good company

Will you heed the call
When your higher self beckons
Or remain dormant?

Hanging in limbo
Once you've made peace with your fate
You can free yourself

Don’t fear coming home
We’ll shoulder this together
You are welcome here

Darkness shan't be feared
It adds a crucial contrast
Without it, what shines?

Look into my eyes
Make me believe in something
Let me feel alive

No obstacle could stop me
On my way to you
