Hey everyone!

Sorry the queue ran out too soon in the story, but I’m having to queue everything in parts because that part of the process takes up a lot of time I don’t have anymore. Which actually brings me to this…

I’ve queued the rest of the story so you don’t have a cliffhanger, but because the process of acquiring scans, editing, and queueing the story takes a HUGE amount of time–mind you I’m the only moderator, this is majorly a solo project with the occasional (much appreciated) support–I’ll have to put this blog on a temporary hiatus until I have time to spare. Lately I’ve been giving myself WAY TOO MANY responsibilities and I have to cut off the least important ones for my own health. So for now, as a solo project, the blog will be quiet until time is better for me.

I appreciate your responses and you not getting angry and defensive about the reactions people are having to this. I would never expect perfect politics from any creator I liked but it's still uncomfortable and I think allowing others to express this is a healthy way to talk about what we're seeing so I'm relived to see you not getting aggressive or blocking/deleting what you don't want to hear

It’s good for folks to have their opinions regardless of what I think, but I prefer to encourage a learning environment than a heated debate. MY opinions won’t please everyone, but I can definitely try and guide a better understanding for others to develop their own pictures with more context.

I get frazzled myself and need to step back before I turn things into an argument of course (I hate debates ngl, they stress me the heck out), but blocking/deleting things that I don’t want to hear, or things that make me feel like I’m wrong, feels like it only harms more than it helps.

Basically the best takeaway is that even our idols are imperfect, especially when they’re from a time where some of the things they did aren’t acceptable now. Also racism is bad, but we can’t change antiques of a time where most of society was on a lower level, and nor should we, because they too can act as learning tools.

Between having the "fake" native people acting aggressive,obsessive over money and skin and the "real" one just attacking the group and not even given a sympathetic or nicer side (also they all look like the same caricature while characters who get to be seen as white get varied appearances) its not good and very hurtful, I never knew Tove had this side to her tbh :(

To be fair she was European, and it was the 1950s, and likely her only impression of Indigenous people come from Americana Hollywood just like many other European cartoonists who seemed to really like the whole ‘cowboys and indians’ genre of the time (please see this earlier post).

I highly doubt her intention was to be hurtful; in fact, I feel like if she made the comic today it would be in a much better light since she’d have more resources to learn about the Sioux tribe and people would see this sort of depiction as socially unacceptable. You gotta remember though that at the time, most people of the media weren’t thinking about what was socially acceptable for poc depictions in comics or literature, especially when they lived abroad and adored the idea of western American culture.
