Zane's sacrifice is still one of the saddest things to ever happen in Ninjago.

When the show DIDN'T use him as a dummy to abuse just because he was a robot, he was SUCH a painful lil guy. His most iconic moments were like, s1-s4, because all those seasons had something emotionally valuable for him.

He hasn't done much except get tortured and abused for no reason and it sucks sooo bad !!!

Modern works of fiction way too often seek to divorce human characters from their words or actions by blaming "evil" or "bad" things on possession by an evil spirit, an evil item's corrupting influence, or some such mechanism. To me, these are inherently unbelievable and don't capture my attention for very long. Also, it's not easy for me to absolve someone of wrongdoing when I would have made a different choice in the first place.

Much older works more often acknowledge that people can be and usually are influenced by their own perceptions of their past. People can be and sometimes are cruel. Short-sighted. Mean. Bigoted. But those very same people can also embody the good things, like occasionally altruistic, beneficient, kind, warm, empathetic.

Nobody is good or evil *all the time*. They're a blend of both and which comes to the fore is situationally dependent.

The idea of dragons in modern times is so fun because imagine a hot summer day on your vacay and go to use the hotel pool and staff is like "valued guests we regret to inform you that the pool area is out of service at the moment, we apologize for the inconvenience"

And people like "wtf why" looking out their hotel room window and there's this. This dragon just curled up in the pool chilling, literally, cooling itself down

Some of the staff are trying to gently shoo him away and the dragon does a soft little "rrrrrr" like a grumpy cat and a warning puff of smoke and they're like "fuck it i don't get paid nearly enough for this" and no ones using the pool today sorry!
