I was hoping to have a small fic out in time for this prompt, didn’t quite turn out that way, but I do want to at least contribute with a brief essay on this ship. @puyoweek2019
15th was the first game where I really got to see what many of the characters were about, Sig in particular and I took an immediate liking to his interactions with Arle.
It showed a very helpful, empathetic and all around caring side of Sig that to this day, I love to highlight when talking about him or writing him. Helping Arle with her dilemma and even fighting Rulue on her behalf, yeah, of course I quickly took a liking to the idea of shipping them.
After that their interactions became briefer, with only the odd bone thrown around here and there, such as the Live Show moment that I have already endlessly raved about as is.
Despite not always getting a whole lot from official materials though, my love for the ship only intesified over the years, especially as I myself gradually realized how much Arle and Sig together inherently have to work with.
Just off the top of my head I can name the following:
-Both Arle and Sig are in love triangles they want no part of (Arle/Satan/Rulue, Sig/Oniko/Onion Pixie) it’s easy to picture them getting to talk about that and maybe, discover more about how they feel about each other, as they realize some of the things they have in common.
-Both Arle and Sig are incomplete beings, with other halves that suffered awful fates. That one easily can make for a bigger story centering around the two, their growing relationship and a chance to make things up with Strange Klug and Doppelganger Arle.
-Heck, even a story about Arle and Doppel making peace with each other can work really well with Sig as a major player, the red/blue motif and how Sig covers both colors, almost like a connecting point between the, makes for some good ol’ fashioned symbolism.
-Simply take the energetic girl/lax boy dynamic and see how that would play out on an adventure. Doubly so since Arle can let loose as well and Sig has been known to go on adventures when friends are involved. They differ in areas, but also compliment each other.
-Delve into how Sig is a rare unambiguous male friend for Arle, without any recurring rivalry and conflicts.
Plus, it’s just a really wholesome ship and I’m a sucker for that.
I really do think that Arle x Sig both as a ship and just a dynamic in general is a untapped treasure trove of great material and getting to realize a lot of said potential material was, in many ways, a very rewarding and enjoyable experience all by itself.
