Something that I don’t feel is emphasised enough: the bookish community here is (or, at least, should be) a safe space. No matter who you are, what books you read - whether you’re an adult who loves YA, a teen who’s into biographies and non-fiction, a 80 year old individual who just discovered the joys of Harry Potter or Percy Jackson - your love of books will always offer you a place in this community.
You’re always welcome to share your love of fictional (or non fictional) characters and worlds, because I guarantee you - someone will care and share that love with you.
We’ve all been saved by books, one way or another. And as book lovers, we’ll always find a way to be there for each other. This may sound stupid or melodramatic or whatever, I just needed to tell whoever needed to hear this: you and your books matter.
i’m out playing in the 🌊🌊 today but wanted to take a minute to hype #smallbusinesssaturday. go out and support your local bookstore today! these lil gems need you. townie books, in crested butte CO, is one of my absolute favorites — i bought “the brief wondrous life of oscar wao” there this summer and am loving it. and their bookmarks have a handy list of what shopping locally really means. now buy, buy, buy!
I love weekends…
If you lack confidence in setting one word after another and sense that you are stuck in a place from which you will never be set free, if you feel sure that you will never make it and were not cut out to do this, if your prose seems stillborn and you completely lack confidence, you must be a writer.
John McPhee, Draft No. 4: On the Writing Process
a day late but not at all short on gratitude. for the chance to be with my family in a beautiful place, for the opportunity to learn and grow in grad school, for the gift of words, and especially for the love and support of the one giving them to me. happy belated thanksgiving from my peeps to yours.
this is so incredibly iconic

“Cherry pick what you need to make yourself feel more free, more informed, or make your internal life richer, seems to be the message.“
thought this piece was an excellent critical look at the dangers of sharable, bite-sized politics. the one bite is never really enough to understand or contextualize something. although, if celebrity instagrams are what’s introducing young people to critical thinking, so be it. as long as that’s what’s happening.
(this is by an intern! good work nora, whoever you are.)
