One-shot. Human AU!, using human names obviously. Pairings include Gerita, and SPamano. Cute little one-shot that involves Spamano adopting a child.Â
The light from outside streamed in from the slightly closed windows, the bed beside it was soaked in sunshine. Underneath the large brown blankets on the bed was a lump, unmoving except for a subtle movement to show the lump softly breathing. Then the door to the room slowly opened and appeared a man with brown hair that was curled ever so slightly, as if he had just rolled out of bed himself. His parakeet green eyes fell onto the bed where he could see the lump and he crept softly across the wooden floor toward the bed, âAmorâŠâ he whispered gently. And laid beside the lump making the bed dip from his body.
There was movement underneath the covers, the lump had some chestnut brown hair poking out and a defined curl was the most noticeable of it all. Just then the cover was pulled down to reveal the lightly tan creamy skin and long eye lashed Italian who groaned as a wave of sunlight hit his face. He quickly put a hand up and flipped over to his stomach. He pushed the other slightly and pulled the cover back up and over his head. Only the curl was noticeable now.
There was a low chuckle from the other, âAmor wake up itâs almost eight.â
âItâs too early bastard,â he could hear the Italian muffled voice say in the pillow. And once again he was nothing but a lump underneath the covers that tried to settle back down into the bed.
âBut Lovi, you remember what today is, si?â the other asked as he reached over and underneath the cover to run his hand over the chestnut hair gingerly.
The other had his eyes open underneath the covers and he could feel the large hand caress his hair, making his eyelids droop slightly to the soft touch. Of course he remembered what today was, how could he forget? He even felt his own cheeks turn a darker hue at the thought, but he knew the Spaniard must have something planned for today. He reached up to take his hand from his hair and gently pushed it away, playfully.
The other smiled, but kept a hold of the Italians hand, making their fingers intertwine together. âPor favor amor, get up.â There was another grumble of rebellion from underneath the covers. âI made breakfast.â
The Italian underneath the blanket paused, and thought. He did love the Spaniards cooking, he was such a good cook. He lowered the blanket a bit, now his eyes opened and showing soft hazel eyes. âWhat did you make?â he whispered.
      âChurros,â the other replied.
      âWith chocolate?â
There was a pause as the hazel eyes seemed to be debating on whether to get up or not. And if it was worth it. But he knew one way or another the Spaniard would get him up, âCan I have two?â he asked.
Antonio laughed softly and leaned over placing a soft kiss on Lovinoâs forehead. âOf course you can amor.â
Lovino smiled slightly and sat up, the tawny colored blanket falling to his waist and exposing the creamy warm skin of his chest. He shifted and got out of bed, the Spaniard watching him until Lovino had pulled on his slippers and long shirt that belonged to him. The shirt fit the slim Italian big and he loved the way he looked. Then they made their way to the kitchen hand in hand.
They walked through the small villa, with a small plot of land that seemed to stretch forever. In the rural country side of Spain where one could fill their lungs to the brim of fresh air and the sweet smell of flowers and vegetables from nearby gardens, it was almost like heaven on earth to them. They made it to the kitchen where the warm sunshine from the east was flooding in and warming the tile floor.
Lovino sat himself down at the small round oak table where two cups of delicious smelling coffee were awaiting. In front of him was a three paneled window that gave a graceful view of the garden. He could see the vines of grapes and strawberries, they were beside the tomato plants. Beside that was plot of land for herbs which included basil, mint, yarrow, chamomile, and many more. And off to the side were several trees, one was a lemon tree, another was an apple, and the last was a chestnut tree. Behind all of it was a beautiful mountains, their once ice covered tips now turning green with lush grass and wild flowers that grew all over made the mountains look like it had beautiful gems sticking out every which way. He stared at the lovely garden, it was right in the middle of spring where the earth had soaked up all the winter water and the garden was blooming and teaming with life. He could already see several blue winged butterflies outside and watched them flutter from plant to plant. He was pulled out of his daze when two plates were set down, each holding two delicious smelling churros and a small cup of chocolate on it. âGrazie,â Lovino said softly as he picked up a churro and began to eat.
Antonio nodded and began to eat as well, each eating in a comfortable silence with their coffee and watching the outside world flutter about. They enjoyed one anotherâs company, and as Lovino finished he looked at Antonio, âAlright, what do you have planned today?â
Antonio gave him a teasing smile, âWhat do you mean? I donât have anything planned today.â
Lovino scowled slightly, âCome on, you always have something planned.â
Antonio laughed silently and nodded his eyes lighting up, âI do, and today we will spend it like any other day. But we will go out to dinner tonight.â
Lovino raised his eyebrow, it was simple. He liked simple. He nodded agreeing with the plan and Antonio got up to clear the dishes away as Lovino went back to the room and got ready to work in the garden.
The sun was already high in the sky when they walked out into the garden, the sun warming the earth and making the sweet smell of fruits and herbs mix in the air. Lovino inhaled deeply, and let out a slow long breath. He went to go fill the cantinas with water as Antonio went to a small shed and got out some tools they could work with. Lovino looked over to see the lemon tree already have some large yellow lemons clinging to its branches. He wondered if they could make some lemonade for lunch, but just as he was about to voice the opinion, he saw dirt flying up from the dirt road. He stared past the tree and toward the road where a car was driving up and came to a slow stop beside the little white fence that surrounded the garden. Lovino decided to ignore them turning his attention back to the cantinas.
Antonio walked out with several tools and two pairs of gloves setting them aside to close the small blue shed. He looked over to where Lovino was filling the cantinas to see the black car beside the fence, he fixed his straw hat to see two men walk out of the car. One was a rather fair skinned, tall, blond male, his muscular build was evident and his jaw smooth and nicely shaped. The other was another chestnut colored hair man with a curl sticking out of his hair, but on the opposite side than Lovino had it. Antonio recognized the two, and a large smile came to his face. âLudwig, Feliciano what a surprise!â he shouted and walked over to the gate.
Lovino looked up to see his younger brother, âCiao Lovino!â he heard him shout happily. Lovino seemed stunned to see his brother, he hadnât seen him since last year in the summer. Mainly because he lived in Germany with his partner who was with him, but he walked over to the gate to give his brother a hug.
âWhat brings you here?â Antonio asked.
âWeâd thought it would be good to surprise you two,â replied Ludwig who gave a respectful nod of greeting toward the couple on the other side of the fence.
âSurprise!â Feliciano shouted with a giggle and Lovino rolled his eyes but laughed slightly.
âWell come in, I think I still have some churros left,â Antonio said motioning them to step inside the small villa. The other two made their way in and all four of them were soon in the kitchen, Feliciano and Ludwig eating some churros and drinking coffee.
âVe look at the lovely view!â Feliciano smile looking out the window, âLovino I see why you love Spain so much, it reminds me of Italy.â
Lovino gazed out the window as well and agreed with a hum, but then turned to shift in his chair and look at the couple across from him. His brother stared out the window, clearly mesmerized by the view and his companion was savoring the taste of his coffee.  He then glanced at Antonio who was busy putting away some dry dishes, but before he could think anything his brother got his attention.
âWe also came for another reason,â Feliciano said shifting a bit nervously in his seat. Lovino raised an eyebrow and sat back in his seat with a fresh cup of coffee in hand ready to listen. âYou seeâŠthere isâŠwellâŠâ Feliciano was trying to find the right words until he gripped his cup of coffee, âThere is a child who needs a family and Ludwig and I were wondering if you two wouldâŠmaybeâŠâ the words died on his lips.
Lovino was stunned a bit by the request, âA child?â
Feliciano nodded, âLudwig and I would do itâŠbutâŠweâŠmight be moving.â
âMoving?â Lovino sat up a bit straighter, âWhere to?â
Feliciano hesitated, âTo the United States.â
âWhy the hell would you move there?â Lovino asked almost in a scolding tone.
âWell I would like to stay here in Europe!â Feliciano said defensively, âBut Ludwig was offered a job â â
Lovinoâs gaze shifted to the silent German beside his brother, âYouâre going to take him to the United States?!â he asked. But he didnât give Ludwig a chance to answer, âYou stupid potato bastard! First you take him to Germany and now you want to take him America?! Europe is small only a few countries between here and Germany, but a whole ocean between Europe and America!â
âLovino,â Ludwig began and put his hands up, âwe donât know yet if we really are going or not, it is just a thought.â
âWell it shouldnât even be that!â he turned to Feliciano, âAre you really going to go with this bastardo!â And it wasnât long after that the two Italians were arguing in Italian, shifting back and forth from English to Italian at some points.
But before things could escalate any further Antonio went over and took Lovinoâs hand, âCon permiso,â he said softly and led Lovino away almost forcefully toward the bedroom. He closed the door where a hot headed Italian stood in front of him. Not a very smart idea, but Antonio had enough experience and knew how to settle the temperamental Italian down.
âHe canât do this!â Lovino shouted walking a few steps away from Antonio and then back, âHe canât just take him all the way over there!â
âAmor,â Antonio said softly and pulled his little Italian close to him, âYou know it is not up to you, right?â
âI know that!â Lovino shouted into Antonioâs shoulder. âI know that damn wellâŠâ he said in a weaker voice.
Antonio ran his hand up and down his back soothingly and Lovino slowly wrapped his arms around him and clung to him. Fighting so very hard to hold back the tears. âMire, amor, there are some things we cannot control in this world. And one of those things are other people. If Feliciano is going to leave, then all you can do as his brother is support him. Beside they said they were here for something else.â
âI donât want a kid running around hereâŠâ Lovino muttered.
      âPor que no?â Antonio asked.
      âBecauseâŠtheyâre loudâŠand annoyingâŠand loudâŠ.andâŠ.andâŠno.â
Antonio sighed, âBut you havenât even met the child yet, how do you know you wonât like them?â
Lovino didnât know, and didnât want to think of knowing. Having another person in this small villa wasnât impossible, after all it did have two bedrooms. He used to occupy the other before he and Antonio became intimate with one another. But the worst thing of it all, was the thought of him having to share Antonio. Lovino was selfish, he knew that, especially when it came to Antonio. He didnât like to share him with anybody, even if it was a kid. Which is why he was so happy he was born a man and not a woman. âI just donât want a kid,â he muttered.
Antonio tried to find patience with the answer. But he knew what it was like to grow up without a family. He was an orphan since birth, and had lived in the covenant with some nuns since he was a child. He knew what it was like to be poor and what it was like to starve for days at a time. He didnât understand why Lovino wouldnât want to help another child, someone who probably has been through the same things as him â or maybe even worse. âI want the child.â
Lovino sighed and pulled away, he knew about Antonioâs past and thought maybe that what was influencing him to wanting to take the child in. Even looking at him he could tell he really wanted the child, and he was firm with his answer. âAntonio I donât knowâŠwhat if weâre not ready for a kid?â
âWe can work for it, we can try.â Antonio quickly responded.
Lovino was silent, staring at the determined Spaniard in front of him, âAntonioâŠI just donât knowâŠâ he finally said after some time.
âThen let us try,â he urged going over to take his hands into his. The Spaniards tanned hands clearly showed the difference between the cream colored ones in his, âPor favor,â he whispered.
Lovino looked up at the green eyes staring back at him, and he closed his hazel ones letting out a small breath. âFine,â he muttered.
Antonio smiled and then kissed the sweet Italian lips that tasted of the sweet cinnamon sugar they had this morning.
They walked back out and toward the couple who were quietly talking amongst themselves and paused to see the other couple walking toward them. Ludwig stood up and cleared his throat, âSorry for interrupting you day, I think itâs best if we leave.â
âDonât be so hasty amigo,â Antonio smiled and motioned for him to sit down once more, âWe want to hear more of the child you came for.â
Feliciano smiled, âYou really want to take in the child?â he asked happily. Lovino nodded, but said nothing more as he once again took his seat across the couple at the oak table. Feliciano couldnât stop grinning as he told them of the little child, âShe is just a bambina and they had left her at the orphanage. But you see itâs so full over there, and she is not even really German to begin with.â
âThen what is she?â Antonio asked.
âWell they told me her name was Lazzari,â he replied.
      âThatâs Italian,â Lovino muttered.
Feliciano nodded, âI would take in the little bambina butâŠâ he motioned his head to the side, not really wanting to say anything more.
âWhere is she right now?â Lovino asked.
âBack in Germany, she is with Gilbert.â Ludwig said a bit uneasily.
Antonio laughed, âWell you better bring the little bebe over here before he permanently ruins her.â The other two laughed and nodded.
âSo you will be taking her then?â Feliciano asked for clarification.
      âSi,â Antonio answered quickly.
There were nothing but smiles, but Lovino felt an unsettled feeling in his stomach. He was never really good with kids to begin with. And he shifted a bit uncomfortably thinking about the new child that was going to be in the house. He wondered if she would like him, or if she would despise him like so many other countless children. He couldnât help but being blunt either way, which was maybe why children didnât really like him. But it wasnât like he hadnât tried to get to know children in the past, he really did, it was them. He swears it.
After some time passed, the other two left back to Germany. âThey said they would be back in a few days with the bebe.â Antonio said softly and was hugging Lovino from behind. His lips brushing against his ear and his eyes closed inhaling the sweet scent of his Italian.
Lovino said nothing, leaning back into the warm embrace. The feeling didnât go away and he closed his eyes as well.
Lovino was up and pacing around the house making sure everything was as clean as it could be for the arrival of the little bambina. Over the past two weeks he had gotten used to the idea of having a child with them, and Antonio had been working on carving a beautiful crib for the arrival. They had gone the spare room ready taking out all sorts of things unneeded. Antonio even placed a rocking chair he had made from oak beside the crib. Each glistened with the stained paint that he used. Lovino was in the kitchen, squeezing some lemons to make some lemonade and was mixing some sugar inside when he heard a car pulling up. He knew cars were rare around here and so he quickly went out to see the same car from last time. âLovino!â Feliciano shouted as he got out the car. A small white cloth in his arms as Ludwig was grabbing a few things from the back of the car.
âAntonio!â Lovino called out, âTheyâre here!â They both went out to greet the other couple and to see the new child.
Upon seeing her Lovino felt breathless, she had beautiful tanned skin with hazel eyes and dark slightly curled hair. She was moving slightly inside the blanket and whining, Feliciano laughed a bit, âShe has been fussy the entire trip. I think she knows she was going to meet her new parents.â Feliciano held her out toward Lovino who quickly pushed Antonio forward to take the baby. He was nervous he was going to hurt her in some way and kept a hand firmly on Antonioâs shirt watching him take the small child from Feliciano.
Antonio looked down at her, she was beautiful in every way and his usual bright smile seemed to be twice as bright but with a gentle shine. âHola hermosa,â he whispered and showed Lovino the little child.
Lovino found his lips shaking into a smile, âCiao bella,â he said and reached up to touch her face. Lazzari reached up and wrapped her tiny fingers around Lovinoâs finger, looking at him with her hazel eyes. Then she slowly smiled, her soft pink lips curving upward to show her toothless grin. Lovino felt his face heat up and he found himself smiling.
Antonio glanced over and then motioned for him to take her. They had practiced countless times with stuffed animals that a friend had sent them. But Lovino knew this was the real thing and shook his head, he wasnât ready for it. But Antonio persisted and Lazzari began to get fussy being moved so much, until finally Lovino gave in. He held out his arms, one going underneath her head to support her neck and the other underneath her body to support it. Lazzari calmed down and looked up at Lovino once more, reaching for his curl which he pulled away from. The other three laughed and watched him.
After a few goodbyes and some talking the other two left. Lovino had accepted that they were leaving to America, but in turn they were able to take care of such a wonderful child. He walked Lazzari inside and toward the bedroom they had made for her. âLook bella, this is your room,â Lovino said gently swaying to show the hazel eyed beauty her new home. Lazzari giggled and Antonio joined them, his arm going around Lovinoâs shoulder.
âSo, are you going to let her call you mama?â he asked.
Lovino scowled, âIâm not going to be the mom. You can be the mom, and I can be the dad.â
      âIâll play for it.â
Lovino scowled at him, he knew Antonio always won when they played and didnât even want to attempt trying. âFine, whatever Iâll let her call me mama.â He turned toward the child and smiled gently. She had the same skin color as Antonio and her hair was just as dark and curly, but her eyes and lips were like Lovinoâs. It was like she was specifically made for them, and he couldnât help but smile down at her. âBentoranto a casa bella. Bienvenido a casa hermosa. Welcome home, beautiful.â
