okay y'know what i think.
i think that white lily and dark enchantress are the same person, but the âwhite lilyâ we see in crk is merely a fragment that dark enchantress has completely separated from her very being. that white lily isnât a full personâitâs the lingering remnants of dark enchantressâ past memories and regrets. she may have tried to rid herself of those things, but that amount of energy and life canât just vanish into thin air. so it takes the form of her old self, and it wanders, searching fruitlessly for what it has lost.
the story (as i understand it) goes like this: white lily attended the blueberry yogurt magic academy. she was a prodigy student. she excelled in every class and was far, far ahead of her peers in terms of magical ability⊠and she was bored. school just wasnât challenging enough for her. she wanted to do good things with her magic, to help cookies live better lives, not sit in a classroom all day. cookies are quite fragile and many things in their world can cause their untimely demise, so white lily became interested in using magic to make cookies stronger and more durable.

a rather noble goal! but the research led her down a rabbit hole. she began researching and studying cookie anatomy, sneaking restricted books from the library, and she and pure vanilla even attempted to artificially create a cookie. a perfect cookie, who would not crumble and fall apart so easily.
so basically⊠i think white lily learned too much. she somehow learned that the witch is their creator (because interestingly, crk shows us that the cookies donât actually know that! the common belief is that they were brought into the world by the sugar swan, and the witch is just kinda there) annnnd she learned that they were created for the sole purpose of being devoured. she understood why they were so fragile. because they werenât meant to live at all.
she grew obsessed with finding a solution, and with all her other experiments failing, she took drastic measures. she opened a portal to another dimension. her intent was to harness the magic from this dimension to make cookies stronger, because clearly standard cookie magic wasnât going to cut it.
keeping all that in mind⊠letâs look at what dark enchantress has to say after the Big Reveal:
she hates this part of herself; she canât forgive herself for this past failure and horrible mistake. i think, after opening that portal and seeing all the chaos and destruction, white lily went through it. she knew too much and could never go back to a normal life. she could have changed everyoneâs lives for the better, but she failed and only hurt them even more. she couldnât be âwhite lily cookieâ anymore.
andâŠwell, maybe, just maybe, she could find a way to help after all, somewhere on the other side of the portal.
i donât think the denizens of the other dimension would just let her waltz through, though. they demanded an entrance fee, basically, in the form of a personal sacrifice. and the thing she ended up sacrificing was her past self. it was all she had left, and it served her no purpose, anyway. her innocence and youth, naivety, her hopes and aspirations, her precious memories with vanillaâstripped, discarded. and while itâs not like she forgets about her past, sheâs extremely disconnected from it and can barely scrounge up a faint fondness for her old best friend. the moment she stepped through that portal, she became an entirely different person.
this would also account for their physical differences, by the way! when white lily stepped through the portal, she was transformed by the magic of the other dimension, that âdark moonâ magic. after spending some time there doing god knows what, she eventually reopened the portal and returned to her home dimension with her new mastery of this dark magic in tow, and she caused the dark flour war. she is sealed into a moonstone prison by pure vanilla, where she has waited patiently since. and NOW gingerbrave & co have inadvertently freed her, and sheâs opening portals and unleashing the dark moon magic and monsters across the world. and thereâs no pure vanilla to stop her this time. (um. yetâŠ?)
anyway, i think the most important takeaway from all this is dark enchantressâ goals havenâtâŠchanged. ultimately, theyâre the same as they were in her schooldays. once a cookie embraces dark moon magic, theyâre stronger, arenât they? if only the rest of the world could see her vision. itâs still for their own good.
