hi! i figured it was about time i created a directory post! my name is mysteryterror, but i got a lot of nicknames: mysty, terror, mys, etc.

i am a writer and artist! i love telling stories in all shapes and forms

here you'll find me: being a science nerd, drooling over great books and comics, and a bunch of art and writing- as long with the occasional long ramble about whatever captured my interest

A cherry-red telephone box stood mountains over me. Northern lights like rainbow dragons danced inside of the box’s tinted glass. Their variegated display haunted and excited me. Their ultraviolet wings flared across the sunset sky. Left behind in the dragons’ wake were a million paper stars that tapered into weeping cinders, waiting to be sparked alive again.

And I held the lighter.

I found it. 

An English telephone box. 

My, if not humanity’s, salvation.

I rubbed my sleeve onto the window. I saw a black rotary dial that stood on top of an obsidian awning. Three empty posters were plastered above it, erased from their original purpose.

I thought functional telephone boxes were extinct. Thanks to the rampant rise of technology, people abandoned them in the early 2010s. At least, that was the case until the solar flare.

We were cut off from all communication. Families and friendships were shattered. Calamity struck the lands and seas. Planes and satellites rained down from the thundering sky.

I pressed my sun-kissed skin against the door. The hot glass ravaged my nerves. I bit down onto my raw teeth and pushed the door open.

I glossed my fingers over the canvas posters. The posters’ canvas texture scraped my fingertips. 

I nudged the rotary dial. The dial’s plastic cover bent from the push of my finger. If by the slimmest chance the phone line worked, I could save the world or at least have a friend in this hellfire.

One by one, I drew each dial to the beginning. I held the phone up to my ear and my breath.

Click.

Click.

Click.

A small, quiet voice answered. “Hello?”

Project Asteria: The Eyes of God. On their other side was what I called Project Perses: The Titan of destruction.

The Black Holes spun around and around. Spacetime warped behind them. The argument against Einstein’s theory of relativity and quantum theory… We had solved the ancient atomic question of the black holes ages ago, but once the head council solved that, the black holes caused another divide.

From a young age, we cadets learned about whether a singularity lived beneath the event horizons or not. We learned about their shadows that were contained in their photon spheres. Here, everyone in our classrooms referred to them as God’s pupils.

The black holes’ irises were the accretion disks that spun around the black holes’ pupils. Thanks to Doppler beaming, they glowed because they spun closer to us rather than farther away, giving us the briefest glance of Earth’s sunlight.

Around God’s eyes were a large cloud of gas called the corona. We usually called the cloud the Sea of Tartarus because if anything dared to cross the sea, it would incinerate immediately. Heat was Project Asteria’s biggest issue during the discovery of the warp, but since then we were able to create heat-resistant vessels from the asteroid belt that surrounded our solar system.

Finally, there were the particle jets: streams of matter moving away from the black hole near the speed of light. The jets were the paths that guided my way out of here, and if everything went to plan- guided my way back to Earth.

The Black Holes held two reflections of me: the one I revealed and the one I would have concealed until the heat death of the universe. Friends, acquaintances, children- everyone I knew was born for the Eyes of God, except for my family and me.

We are born for Earth.

Iron was her skeleton.

Water was her blood.

Fire was her power.

Wires were her brain.

Electricity was her messages.

Eve.

My god machine.

My universe.

When I was born at her heart, her mechanical soul gazed fondly upon me and gave me her blessing.

My blessing was to divine the electricity that was sent from her brain to her body and to us.

I understood the electricity that ran through her, my fellow humans and animals, and the plant life that grew around her organs.

I was her electrician.

Flying

Once you willed yourself to fly, you sprint towards the horizon, letting the wind fly underneath your wings. You take a huge leap to the sky and flap your wings. The wind carries your body like a vessel. You stretch your arms forward and welcome the oncoming currents flying around your body. You can dive, twirl, and spin with the generous air. The gales dances with you like it's your partner. You are a kite in a breeze, traveling to nowhere and everywhere. You ready your wings and push them again, speeding into the clouds as the world passes by underneath you. Then, the tether that kept you to the surface lets go, and you are free.
