.she's the man } mini event
Reluctantly endeavoring to breach the boundaries of her comfort zone was accomplished through the attendance of the advertised event. This form of outing was utterly foreign, the concept of donning expensive and rather showy outfits simply to partake in a dance just a little too unbelievable. It was done with a noticeable amount of chagrin as even if she had decided to refrain from attending, parental supervision was required for certain friends, making it integral that she provided the closest thing.
Doing as intended proved to be challenging due to the massive influx of guests. The ones that’d been escorted had been lost in the large crowd, leaving the ruffled teenager hard-pressed to relocate the awol youth but unable to do so because of yet another problem. Having wanted to remain semi-comfortable had the woman dressed in a suit tailored to her figure and a mask that did little to obscure her features. The contrasting outfit, much more suitable for a male rather than a woman, had caused a horrendous mix up to be made.
Mistaken as a member of the opposite sex, she was outwardly calm, but inner turmoil consumed her. Had it not been for the gaggle of women surrounding her frozen form, an escape to the bathroom to lament over this outcome would’ve taken place. Cornered with no reprieve, stress levels would only continue to skyrocket until composure would be lost in an embarrassing show of stuttered phrases and heated cheeks.
If only someone could disperse the crowd and save her from that fate.
It was nice, really, to have a chance to take a break from the dancing and constant energy that surrounded the ball, eyes wandering the rest of the room as a small, brunette girl stood around the edges of her room with a green rose bound to her wrist. Polite as she was, she kind of hoped that she wouldn't be approached, if only for a couple moments as her attention fell to a nearby collection of girls who seemed quite... enthusiastic. It looked like a small group of admirers had crowded around a girl who so happened to wear something aside from a dress, swooning and vying for the attention of the other if Deuce had to guess. All of which would be perfectly fine if she hadn't taken the extra moment to gauge the reaction of the young lady who just so happened to be the center of attention here, a blush creeping across her face and a demeanour that, while it took a few moments to show, did seem rather out of place among the ladies attentions.
There was a bit of pity as Deuce looked on, weighing what she may or may not be able to do before a conclusion was reached. The fabric of her dress just barely brushing against the ballroom floor as she did so, the girl hurried over and did her best not to look too out of place as she spoke, repeating to herself that this wasn't unlike anything she had done before.
"There you are..!"
Though her own mask did little to obscure her face, a kind, if not sheepish, smile was still visible on her features as the girl reached to take the stranger's hand, hoping fervently that the other would be willing to go along with this little act. Maybe that was a little too bold of her, yes, and she could apologize afterward, but it would seem that trying to find a way to save--er, make the other more comfortable was her main goal. Turning on her heel, Deuce made to start towards one of the doors that lead to the main garden, thinking the cool air of outside would certainly help as she continued on.
"I've been looking for you for a while now. Where have you been?"
