~2022~
When Yoongi showed up at the door, I felt relieved at not being alone. It was completely unexpected but the fact that he was at the door and hadn’t needed to be buzzed in… Nari had to have known.
“Are you staying at a hotel nearby?” I asked as he followed me into the apartment.
“No, I’m staying here. I’ll sleep on the couch.”
I blinked as I processed what he was saying. “Okay… Are you sure that you’ll be comfortable sleeping on the couch?”
“I’ve slept in worse places than Nari’s couch.” he said plainly.
Sometimes it was so hard to read his expression. I finally nodded, “I’ll get some blankets and a pillow.”
I went to the closet where I knew Nari kept extra blankets. When I didn’t see any extra pillows I went and grabbed one of mine for him. Before going back, I sat on the edge of the bed and grabbed my phone.
I went back out to find Yoongi right where I left him on the couch. He was looking at his phone, but as soon as I walked in he tucked it away.
Me: Yoongi is here.
Nari: I know, he left shortly after I got here.
Me: Was this planned?
Nari: Not with me. I think for him it was though.
Me: But he had the code.
Nari: Because when i realized where he was going, I gave it to him.
Me: Why is he doing this?
Nari: GIrl, you’re blind if you don’t see it.
Nari: That man has it so bad for you.
Me: We’re just friends.
Nari: Sure, Y/N. ‘Just friends’ fly fourteen hours to make sure their ‘friend’ feels safe and isn’t alone. A couple hours, maybe. But an international flight, putting his schedule on hold? No way.
Nari: He’s not your ex, Y/N.
“I have some blankets here. I had to grab one of my pillows so I hope you don’t mind. I might be able to find a clean pillow case for it.”
“It’s fine, Y/N.” he said standing up and taking the pile of linens from me.
That first night was awkward, mostly because I didn’t know what to make of it. What Nari had said kept running around my head. However, unlike the first night that Nari was gone, I actually slept through the night.
Yoongi was already up and dressed by the time I had emerged from my room. I figured he might still be asleep after all the travel the previous day.
“Morning,” I said, a bit embarrassed by my bedhead.
“How did you sleep?” He looked up at me.
“Really good, actually. You?” I still felt awkward and I wasn’t entirely sure why.
“I slept.” he shrugged. “Would you like to go get coffee?”
“Yeah, sure. I just need to shower first.” I was already holding my fresh clothes as I’d been on the way to the bathroom to begin with. He simply nodded and I continued on my way.
“Y/N.” I turned when he said my name. “You don’t have to be shy that I'm here.”
“I’m not shy, Yoongi. I’m just… trying to figure some things out.” I said softly.
*~*~*~*~*
“I’m flying Nari in next week for a visit.” Namjoon announced over lunch. “She was able to get the time and I can adjust my schedule.”
Yoongi listened to his friend’s announcement. The guys all loved Joon’s girlfriend. She seemed to center him in a way that they hadn’t seen in a long time. It was a way for him to step out of the spotlight. Nari had also been doing him a big favor by letting Y/N stay with her until she got on her feel after moving cross country.
“What’s Y/N doing?” he found himself asking. Yoongi didn’t miss the way some of the others glanced at him. By now, they all knew what had happened in New York.
“I think just staying at the apartment?” Joon said carefully, almost as if he were confused by the question.
Yoongi immediately pulled out his phone and started looking at flights. He couldn’t blame Nari or Namjoon for wanting to steal what time they could together. Especially as they were coming up on a year together. But the idea of Y/N being alone after everything. He knew it’d affect her even if she wouldn’t outright say it.
Quietly, Yoongi made the arrangements. Which included adjusting his own schedule. He left the afternoon Nari had arrived.
“You’re not going to be here during my visit?” Nari asked, surprised.
Yoongi shook his head, “I’m going to go see Y/N.” He didn’t miss the way she smiled, like she knew something he didn’t. “Please don’t tell her I'm coming, I don’t want her to try and stop me.”
“I’ll text you the code to get into the building.”
That was how he found himself sleeping on Nari’s couch. Y/N had been surprised by his arrival, but he’d seen something else in her expression. Relief. They talked all the time, more than one might think or that he let onto with the others. He knew that she was finding some comfort in their friendship.
*~*~*~*~*
After my shower we headed to a cafe that wasn’t far from Nari’s apartment. Cafes were on every corner, but this one was my favorite. Yoongi had a hat, but did little else to conceal himself. Even in the early hours of morning he got decaf, but I now knew why. We got our coffees and took our time walking back towards Nari’s apartment.
“Have you started looking for a place of your own?” He asked, breaking the silence.
“Yeah, I have a few prospects. I did put an application in for one.” I nodded. “But nari found out there might be an opening in her building, so I am going to meet with them sometime next week.” After the way things had been going with Nari gone, I was actually a little nervous being on my own.
“Being in the same building, having Nari near by, that would be good.” Yoongi nodded. “If you need any help, furnishing, with the deposit, any of that. I’ll help.”
“You don’t have to,” I knew he was being genuine though. My mind went back to what Nari had been saying. About what he had said when he’d shown up the night before and everything he had done for me since the day I’d made that call. I kept telling myself I couldn’t let it happen.
“You’re lost in thought.” He commented, breaking me out of the mental spiral.
“I am…” I said with a small frown as I looked down. “Yoongi, I feel like I’m drowning after everything that happened. You’re keeping me afloat, your friends are helping… but it all comes back to you.” I paused, “I am afraid of how I'm feeling right now.” I whispered.
“How are you feeling, Y/N?” He prompted.
“Like I could fall for you.” I said finally looking up at him. “But I’m afraid that it’s just because I’m dealing with this trauma and you were the one there. I’m in no place to be developing feelings for someone.”
This caused Yoongi to pause. I stopped as well, dropping my gaze.
“I care about you, Y/N. I will never pressure you for something more… I want to see you heal.”
“Yoongi…” I didn’t know what I wanted to say, but what he had left to say did nothing to help whatever these feelings were that bubbled below the surface.
“I can wait. I will wait.”

~2021~
Namjoon had to return to Korea, which meant we were now long distance. The hardest part of it was the adjustment to the different timezones. I knew that this would be part of it, but it was still an adjustment. He was now sixteen hours ahead. I had to add a widget to my phone so that it showed me what time it was in Seoul. It was very helpful to have. Most of our communication was through text, but when we could we talked on the phone. With their promotions for their upcoming release, they were all over the place.
One afternoon I was talking with some patrons at the museum when my coworker came to get me. “I’m sorry, there’s a delivery for you at the front. He said he needs your signature” she said quietly.
I followed her back to the front desk to see a gorgeous arrangement of flowers. The delivery man checked his clip board, “Are you Y/N Y/LN?”
“That’s me,” I nodded.
Once I’d signed for it and he was walking away I turned my full attention to the bouquet.
“Who is it from?” My coworker asked excitedly. “They’re beautiful.”
I knew before I even read the card who they were from. “My boyfriend.” I smiled opening the card to read his message. It was a sweet, poetic note with KNJ signed at the bottom. “We’re long distance at the moment.” I explained, tucking the note back into the envelope.
“This is so sweet, though. I didn’t realize you were seeing anyone.”
“Oh yeah, it’s still relatively new. He’s rather private though, so I don’t really advertise it.” I smiled. “I’ll move these to the back so that they’re not in the way.” It was also an excuse to be able to text Namjoon privately.
I picked the vase up and made my way to the back. I was able to really take in the different flowers. Knowing Namjoon he had purposely picked each one when ordering the bouquet. I took a picture of it and sent it to him.
I don’t think either of us were fully prepared for the long distance part of being together. We knew it would be a big part of our relationship if we gave it a go, but it wasn’t something that we could have easily prepared for.
Me: These are stunning. I love them, thank you.
Namjoon: Beautiful flowers for my beautiful woman.
Me: How are the schedules going?
Namjoon: Non-stop. The song drops in a few days. Then we have the month to get ready for our muster.
Me: What’s that?
Namjoon: A fan meeting and concert.
Namjoon: I have to go, sorry Jagiya.
Later that afternoon Namjoon sent me a series of silly selfies. It was obvious he was getting his hair done and I realized he was changing it from the pink to something else.
A bit later he sent the final results, a silvery-gray. It was quite striking, and gave a whole different vibe from the pink. I realized they changed their hair quite often from watching some of their older content.
Me: I’m a bit sad to see the pink go.
Namjoon: It is iconic, isn’t it?
The day before the new song dropped, I was surprised by a morning video call from Namjoon. While I didn’t need to go into work, I was already up. I knew that they were flying in sometime, but had thought it was much later in the day. So I figured the call was during a layover. Part of my confusion could still be attributed to the time differences.
“Morning, beautiful.” Namjoon smiled on screen.
“You’re in a good mood,” I laughed. I could hear the other guys in the background, then the camera shook before I saw Jungkook pop up as well as if he were hanging off Namjoon.
“We’re coming to see you,” Jungkook grinned.
“No, I’m going to see her. You guys are going to the house.” Namjoon corrected.
“Wait, you’re already here?”
“Just got to the cars, leaving the airport now,” he grinned. “So, can I come over? I’ve got a few hours before I have to be at the studio for a taping.”
“Yeah, I’m home.” I nodded, smiling. “You still have the code?” I had given him the code to the building in the weeks before he’d gone home.
“Yeah, I’ll see you soon.”
I was giddy with excitement when I hung up. With traffic it would be a little while before he got there, but knowing he was coming made me happy. It was likely the other guys were all going back to the house they were renting to rest before they had to be at the studio. He should have been doing that too, but I knew where his mind was at. We’d just had our first taste of long distance and he was closing that distance as soon as he could.
A bit later there was a knock on my door. I’d just about got it open when he took one long stride in and picked me up in a big hug. I smiled, wrapping my arms around him tightly. I knew what people might say, that this was just a honeymoon phase of a relationship. Maybe it was. We were figuring things out and it was a fresh relationship. I still had troubles wrapping my head around the fact that the Namjoon that just swooped in pulling me into a tight hug was the same man I saw all across various media. He was two sides of the same coin. Leader of the k-pop sensation BTS, but also just… Kim Namjoon.
“I’ve missed you,” He murmured against my neck.
We made no plans, he was exhausted from traveling and having a schedule later that afternoon. So instead we stayed in, settled on the couch and just talked. He shared with me the new song that would be dropping in the morning. It was definitely upbeat and sounded different from their older stuff. Which had made it’s way into my music rotation. As we talked, he’d laid down with his head in my lap and I just ran my fingers through his, now silver, hair. I told him about the upcoming exhibit the museum was going to feature. We had talked about all of this through text and on the phone, but it felt different being together. I noticed that he’d gone quiet as I continued to run my fingers through his hair. That was when I realized, he’d fallen asleep.
I didn’t move, I let Namjoon sleep. He looked so peaceful, as though all the worry melted away. I knew the pressure he had on his shoulders. He’d opened up about it. Often I let him just talk it out when it felt like something he wasn’t ready to talk with the guys about. As I watched him sleep, I had a realization hit me. I was really falling for this man. Hard. It actually scared me a little bit. Initially I had told him we could only get to know one another as friends. Now here we were nearly three months later. It didn’t feel like I'd only known him for three months. It felt much longer, even after the past couple of weeks being long distance. I traced my finger, feather light, down along his jaw, over his features. Barely touching him as I took him in. At one point he shifted turning more in towards me. I was wrapped as he’d brought his arm around me. How it was comfortable, I wasn’t sure. Namjoon muttered something softly in his sleep, but I couldn’t understand it. Not realizing, he’d just let slip the very realization I’d had myself. “사랑해, 자기야.” I love you, Jagiya.

Show day, it didn’t matter how many concerts the guys put on, the energy was always electric. At first it was like an undercurrent but the closer they got to going out there, the more it came to the surface.
~2026~
Namjoon let me sleep in while he went down to the hotel gym with Jungkook. I had some things to work on in preparation for being on the road for the next couple of months. Then I would head down to the stadium. One thing I liked to do was be among the fans, blend in, talk with them. They had such an energy and to be among it I felt the love the guys had from and for their fans. It was different than social media posts, the excitement was palpable. It was one perk of our relationship being private. Everything would change if Namjoon or any of the others decided that it was time to go public with their personal lives.
By the time Namjoon had come back to the room from the gym I was up and working on my laptop. I was working on some things for the exhibit that Namjoon was curating with his collection as well as remotely consulting with someone about their exhibit. He came up behind me seeing the catalogue of pieces pulled up on my laptop.
“That one would look nice in the front room at home." He pointed before leaning down to steal a kiss.
“It would,” I agreed. He had such an eye when it came to art.
“Are you coming with me to the stadium, or going later?” He asked as he went to get a clean set of clothes so he could shower.
“I don’t want to be in the way, I think I’ll go closer to when gates open.”
“You know you’re never in the way, Jagiya.” He shook his head, this wasn’t our first go-round when it came to shows. “You’re planning on hanging around before coming backstage, aren’t you?” I smiled looking up at him. “Just be careful, alright?”
“Always.” I nodded, “When do you guys have to get down to the stadium?”
“An hour. I’m going to shower, take a few, then we’re going over for initial checks.” I knew their show day schedule was usually pretty packed, especially on day one in a city. “Make sure you get your pass from the staff. I don’t want anyone giving you trouble at the venue.”
Most of the staff on tour knew who I was, they’d been working with the guys for years, but I could understand his concern because of the venue’s own staffing. They obviously wouldn’t know who I was.
“Joon?” I leaned back so that I was looking up at him.
“Yes, Jagiya?”
“You have enough to think about with the concert. My being here… You’re not supposed to worry about me.” I smiled.
Namjoon kissed the top of my head, “I know, I know.” he chuckled.
He showered and was soon heading off to the stadium. I stayed at the hotel for a bit longer finishing up work and checked in with Yuna.
I got ready and met with the staff that was bringing me by the stadium. I was wearing a pair of shorts and sneakers with the RM jersey from the tour. When we got to the stadium, the staff member turned and handed me my pass and anything else I needed to get in. I’d hang around through sound check then I’d go backstage. I had the freedom to come and go.
Me: What did you decide?
Yuna: Ara and I will meet you all in Mexico city.
Me: Do you want me to fly home after El Paso, so that you’re not traveling alone with Ara?
Yuna: You don’t have to do that, Y/N.
Me: Traveling that far and long with a toddler will be exhausting.
Yuna: How about you just offer to babysit one night once I'm there?
Me: Deal. You and Yoongi need a night.
The atmosphere of their fans had intimidated me the first time I’d found myself in a situation like this. Now I intentionally sought it out. I loved watching the way they interacted with one another, it was mostly all positive. Occasionally you might witness a less than stellar interaction, but those were far and few between. Army were protective of the guys, and they were protective of Army. I had a couple of girls approach me to hand me freebies, which I thanked them for before tucking the small gifts away. I don’t know why I enjoyed this, I think it was seeing another side to the guys’ success. They had already been at the height of their success when Namjoon and I had first met. I’d been with him through their indefinite hiatus from group activities, their military enlistment, and now this comeback. It was evident that Army hadn’t gone anywhere and whatever heights they were at before, they were still climbing. I also loved the way people shared their stories, how they found BTS or what BTS meant to them. It amazed me the way the seven of them had brought all of these people together. I knew Namjoon didn’t fully understand why I liked coming out and doing this. I think some of it was because I knew they couldn’t. I was able to bring back stories to them.
Me: At the stadium.
Namjoon: Coming backstage?
Me: After soundcheck.
As I was passing the merch line I spotted a younger fan and her mother. I’d guess she was maybe thirteen or fourteen. The girl was frantically looking for something. That’s when I overheard them.
“My wallet… It’s gone. I think I dropped it.” She looked as though she was about to cry. “All my money I saved up…”
“Do you remember the last time you had it?” Her mother asked quietly. I could see it in her mother’s expression that she knew if it was gone, it was likely gone.
“By the car.” Her voice cracked. “I’ve been saving forever.”
“Honey…” The mother looked nearly as devastated as her daughter.
I turned back to them, “Uhm… excuse me. I’m sorry, but I couldn’t help but overhear.” I looked between them. “I would like to help. I don’t think I’d be much help with the lost wallet outside of notifying staff. But clearly you were saving up for something.”
The girl nodded, “A light stick and a a shirt.”
“If it’s okay with your mom, I’d love to get that for you. I have no intention of buying merch for myself, so please don’t think I am trying to jump into line here. My sole intention would be to purchase for you.”
“Oh no… No we couldn’t.”
“Please? I’d really like to do this for you and your daughter.” I smiled at her.
Hesitantly, she finally nodded. I saw the way the young teen lit up.
At first a few people behind us did raise a bit of a fuss. They even tried to call staff over but when the staff member came over to talk I smiled and quietly stepped back out of line to explain the situation. It was venue staff, so I showed them the staff pass I had been given for back stage. “I really am just trying to do something nice for a mother and daughter.” They finally nodded letting me rejoin them while going to address the naysayers.
Standing in line I got to know them. The mother had been saving up for the tickets having been a fan from debut. Her daughter had quite literally been raised on BTS. I enjoyed hearing their story. When we finally got up to the merch booth I looked at them knowing there might be some push back, but I meant what I was offering.
“I want you both to pick out whatever you want. I will buy it. I understand you might think it’s too much but…. Your story is very sweet and I think you deserve this.”
The mother indeed did push back a bit. Even her daughter shook her head with wide eyes. In the end I had managed to convince them that I was being sincere. Neither of them were greedy though, the daughter got her light stick and a couple of shirts and the mother only picked out a hoodie and hat. I suggested the cradle for her light stick and one of the toppers. They had also expressed they hadn’t bought the albums because they’d been saving up for this trip. Did I spoil them? Maybe. The mother’s eyes went wide at the total, I paid. I knew Namjoon would be happy to hear that I had made their day.
As we left the merch line, the girl was beaming. “Can we take a picture with you?”
“Oh, sure, that’d be okay.” I nodded. I’ve taken pictures with people before when wandering around. My face wasn’t out there. If it ever did come out that I was Namjoon’s wife, well… there would be people with good stories like this one.
After we took a picture both their phone and mine, the mother was still thanking me. “Do you have a social we could follow you on?”
“Oh, no. I tend to stay off social media.” I smiled. Not a complete truth. I was on, but I didn’t share my accounts. “I really hope you enjoy the concert, I know the guys are going to put on a great show.” They knew I’d been to at least one other stop on the tour, but believed it as a fan.
As I walked away I heard the girl excitedly talking about the whole experience with her mother. It stirred that feeling again from before. But I pushed it aside.
Sound check was… Interesting. I saw the frustration on the guys’ faces afterwards as they were leaving the stage. Hobi had no poker face and Tae had outright thrown the toy back out at the crowd that someone had thrown on stage. I slipped out as they were walking backstage. I found one of their staff who easily let me back.
I met the guys back at the green room. Namjoon’s jaw was tense, but his expression softened when he spotted me.
“What’s today’s stories from the crowd?” He asked with a knowing smirk. I was sure if he had his phone he got the notification of the charge earlier. It wasn’t because of a lack of trust. I actually disliked spending money on myself. The notifications were simply tied to that card.
“I think you’re going to like this one, Joonie.” I smiled as he brought his arm around my shoulders.
I showed him the selfie of the mother and daughter, if they knew I was showing RM their photo they would lose their minds. Jungkook also popped over peeking over my shoulder to look at the picture. I told them what had been shared with me and how the girl had lost her wallet.
“You’re a good one, Jagiya.” Namjoon smiled. I could see that the story seemed to lighten their moods a bit after how sound check had gone.
While they were getting ready, I hung out with them. They were all in various stages of being ready and fooling around. Their energy was starting to amp up. Yoongi came over and sat with me while Namjoon was in the chair for his make-up.
“I talked to Yuna this morning, I offered to fly home so that she wasn’t traveling alone with Ara to Mexico.” I told him.
“Let me guess, she declined your offer.” He raised a brow.
“Yep. I’ve thought about ignoring her and just going.” I shrugged, but I also knew Yuna.
When it was time for the guys to go out, I followed along to where they would come and go from the stadium. I loved watching how each of the guys were amped up to go out there.
Namjoon was bouncing around. He turned and saw me, running back with a smile. “Kiss for luck?”
“You don’t need luck.” I smirked.
“Not when you’re here, Jagiya.”

~2022~
What happens when an internationally known k-pop idol and music producer gets involved in your issues? I was finding out. It had been a month since I had made that call to Yoongi. My life felt like it had been turned upside down. I spent the first week in the hotel room. A new phone and laptop showed up as did some clothes all within the first couple of days. Yoongi gave me space but did check in. I didn’t know how to handle any of it. I still didn’t fully understand why he was helping me to the extent that he was. Truly I thought the man couldn’t stand me when we had been working together. He’d told me it was far from the truth the same night he had offered his help initially.
Yoongi offered all this support and when I felt up to it we revisited the track to see what we could salvage. Through it, more than a working relationship started. An actual friendship seemed to be forming. When we did work I wasn’t having to worry about how late we worked or any of that. Which meant we took breaks, maybe shared a meal, and talked. Yoongi was still paying for me to stay at the hotel. After what had happened, I had managed to break things off. It didn’t mean I felt safe going back to the apartment for my things despite going no contact and a restraining order.
The biggest change came with the decision to relocate. We were wrapping up the project, having recreated the work that had been lost with my laptop. It had been about two and a half weeks since the attack. I knew that I needed to start figuring out what I was going to do next. Whether it was looking at new apartments, working up to going back to mine, or whatever other options I might not have thought of. As we were listening to the final track, Yoongi looked over at me.
“Have you considered moving out to California?” The question felt like it came out of nowhere.
“Honestly, I haven’t thought past tomorrow.” I sighed, leaning back in my chair.
“There are a lot of opportunities out there, producing.”
“My whole life has already been turned upside down. It’d be crazy to completely uproot and move cross country, Yoongi.” I shook my head.
“It’d put distance between you and your ex.” he pointed out. “I’m back and forth between Korea and LA more than I’m out here.”
My brows raised at this, “I wouldn’t have…”
“Nari lives there, she’s already offered to let you stay with her until you get on your feet. If you decided you wanted to make that kind of move.”
“Yoongi, you can’t just make plans for me and think… I don’t know, that I would just outright agree to something like that? I don’t even know Nari.” I was still getting used to the fact that we were even friends when the first month of knowing one another we were constantly at one another’s throats.
“I wasn’t making plans for you. I was creating a safe option for you to start fresh.” He looked at me, completely straight faced and matter-of-fact. “Nari is Namjoon’s girlfriend.”
That conversation had only been the start. A month later, I was starting fresh in California.
Things just sort of happened. So, what happens when an internationally known k-pop idol and music producer gets involved in your issues? You find your life on a very different path. One that’s completely unexpected.
I was staying with Nari while I got on my feet, I had connected with a few contacts, things were sort of falling into place. There were wounds that were still healing. While all of my physical injuries were gone, I was dealing with other wounds that had been left my that relationship. We had been together for about a year and a half. He had always been rough or controlling but it had only been within the last few months of the relationship that it had begun to escalate and get more physical. Until what had happened that night. Truth was, if it wasn’t for Yoongi, I might have gone back. I wouldn’t have felt as though I had any other options.
Things with Yoongi though were… complicated.
A friendship had formed there, but I was also trying to keep some distance. I was afraid of getting attached as a trauma response. He’d been the one to save me. I couldn’t let that cloud my thoughts. Getting to know him though, I was drawn to him. But there continued to be that part of me that thought I was just drawn to my white knight.
He was currently back in Korea. Nari and I were getting closer too, I found myself opening up to her more about everything that had happened leading up to me taking over her guest room. We were sitting in the living room watching something, but I was more focused on my phone.
Yoongi: How was that demo you were working on?
Me: Trying to work my magic, but there’s only so much I can do with what I was given.
Yoongi: Send it to me, I can take a look.
I sent him a snippet of the song I had on my phone, smiling at his response.
Yoongi: You’re going to need to be a miracle worker.
“Are you taking to Yoongi?” I looked up to see Nari watching me with a smirk.
“What? Oh yeah, we were talking about the track I was working on today.” I nodded, not realizing I still had that small smile.
“You only smile like that when you’re talking to him.” She pointed out.
“We’re just friends, Nari.” I shook my head. “There’s nothing going on between us. Nothing can happen between us.”
“He cares about you, you know.” I don’t answer her as I look down at my phone. “The night after…” She didn’t need to fill in what she was talking about, we both knew. “He was on the phone for hours with Namjoon.”
“I still don’t understand why he stayed, or why he’s done all of this for me.”
“Because, he cares about you.” She repeated. “He hasn’t outright said it, but I see it. The way he treats you, the way he watches you. You didn’t hear him on the phone that night, Y/N. Joonie has known him for years and it seemed to even throw him.”
“We’re friends.” I said quietly.
“I told Namjoon I only wanted to be friends,” She smirked. “That lasted about three weeks.”
About a week later Namjoon had made time in his schedule for Nari to come visit him. It left me in the empty apartment while she was gone and it was the first time I’d truly been alone since everything had happened. In the hotel Yoongi had been across the hall. I’d never gone back to my apartment except to pack up my things, BTS security with me per Yoongi’s request. Then I’d been here with Nari. I thought I’d be alright, but I wasn’t handling it well at all. I was jumpy, startled by the slightest of sounds. Walking home I felt like I was watching over my shoulder more, despite knowing I was safe.
The second night I was curled up on the couch trying to find something on streaming to distract me when there was a knock at the door. You either needed to be let in or have a code. I hadn’t let anyone in, so it had spiked my anxiety. Slowly, I got up to walk to the door. There was another knock this one almost softer before I heard a familiar voice, call out.
“Y/N, 예요.” Y/N it’s me.
Opening the door, I found myself face to face with the last person I expected. “Yoongi, what are you doing here?”
“I came so that you weren’t alone.” He stepped in and I saw the bag over his shoulder.
“Why do you….” I felt the threat of tears as relief washed over me. I couldn’t explain it.
“Because I want you to feel safe, Y/N.”
Yoongi had become my safe haven and I think he already knew it.

Yoongi: I need you to send me the track.
~2022~
Yoongi hadn’t heard from Y/N for three days after they’d gotten stranded overnight at the studio. After he had pushed about her boyfriend they had kept their distance for the rest of the night. When morning came and things had cleared up, they had gone their separate way. He couldn’t shake the feeling that something was wrong though. It was distracting him from some of the conversations that were taking place within the group about their own direction. Decisions were being faced in regards to their future.
At first he tried to phrase the texts to be around work. But when each one went unanswered, his tone shifted slightly.
Yoongi: Can you call me? It’s about the track.
Until it got to the point where he outright voiced his concern.
Yoongi: Y/N are you safe? Please respond.
*~*~*~*~*
I read each and every one of Yoongi’s texts. At first they had felt professional, but by the time the last one came through it honestly felt like a concerned friend. I had been treading carefully with my boyfriend. Lying about my phone dying when instead I had turned it off. Lying about the fact that Yoongi had also been at the studio overnight with me. I was building a whole web of lies around myself, all out of necessity. I realized how bad it could be if he knew the truth. Not that anything had actually happened between the idol and myself. After he had pushed about what was going on with my relationship, we’d barely spoken the rest of the night. At some point we’d each managed to fall asleep. The lies were essential.
However, I couldn’t maintain them. I was trying to be so careful, yet I had still slipped. I had left my laptop open with an email up from one of the assistants at the studio. I hadn’t finished reading it when I had stepped away, so I hadn’t known that she had mentioned the night of the storm, asking about being stranded with Suga. He’d seen it. Realizing that I had been lying, he’d lost his mind. It had all escalated so fast that I had actually feared for my life.
When he had left, I sat on the floor with tears streaming down my cheeks. Staring at my destroyed laptop with everything that we’d worked on for the past three weeks. There were back ups, but none were the final product. I should have sent it to Yoongi sooner.
Yoongi.
His concern that night played back, the way I had brushed him off. Despite how much we hadn’t gotten along, there had been a concern there. In my current state, that was the thought I latched onto. My phone had been kicked under the couch. I winced as I got down onto my stomach and reached to fish it out. Pushing myself back up, I saw the screen was cracked.
“Call BTS Suga.” I had to use voice, unable to navigate the screen. I felt an odd sense of relieve hearing it ring.
“Y/N.” Yoongi answered and I swore there was no edge to his voice.
“I was wrong.” My voice cracked. “I need your help, Yoongi.”
“Where are you? I’ll come to you.”
“My apartment. He’s gone, but I don’t know when he will come back.”
“I’m coming, Y/N.”
I had given him the address. I don’t know how much time actually passed before when the knock came. It took me a moment, but I managed to get to the door. I knew I looked like hell. My face wasn’t bad besides the split lip and the tear stains. My hair was definitely a mess. I didn’t want to think about what my clothes might be hiding. It wasn’t just Yoongi at the door though. He had two men with him that I didn’t recognize. I didn’t realize they were a security detail, it would have made sense if I had.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t know who else to call.” I had friends, but they all saw my boyfriend as this amazing guy. Yoongi had been the only one who had managed to see glimpses behind the curtain.
The three of them took in the state of my apartment. The smashed laptop, my cracked phone. Several other broken things. But worst of all, me.
“Did he…” Yoongi didn’t finish his question, shaking his head. There was a darkness in his expression. One that went beyond our continued disagreements in the studio. This was something else.
I felt like I was moving on autopilot. I sat in the backseat of the dark SUV, unsure where we were going as I stared out the window. Yoongi hadn’t said anything since we had left the apartment. When we stopped, I looked up and realized they’d brought me to the hospital. One of the members of his security went in to speak to the hospital staff. I don’t know what they’d said, because never had I ended up in a bed in one of the private bays so fast. I went through all the motions, answering questions. Yoongi sat in the chair beside the bed the whole time. I didn’t understand why he was lingering like this. Yes, I had called him for help. But this felt liek going far beyond what I had expected. Then again, what had I expected.
It was a long night, but Yoongi didn’t budge from that spot unless he needed to so that I had the privacy to change or for an exam. While we were waiting for the discharge papers, I looked over at him.
“Why are you staying?” I asked quietly.
“Because you shouldn’t be alone, and you asked for my help.”
“I don’t know why I called you, after he left all I could think about was that night we stayed at the studio.” I explained.
“I’m glad you called me, Y/N.” His tone was gentle, unlike the edge he typically had when we were in the studio.
“Yoongi, the track was on my laptop. I’m not sure if the final version will be salvageable or not.” I knew he had seen the destroyed tech.
“We have earlier versions, we’ll be fine. We figured it out before, we’ll figure it out again. I’m not worried about that.”
“You’re the only person that saw through it all.” It was likely why I had been so defensive. Because I hadn’t been prepared for someone to see through the cracks in the facade.
“I’m just more observant than most.”
When I was discharged, I wasn’t sure where I was going to go. But I hadn’t needed to say anything. The members of staff that had stayed with us drove us straight to a hotel. A few minutes later I had a hotel key in hand and we were going to the elevator.
“I’m right across the hall, our staff and security also have a presence. You’ll be safe here, Y/N. I promise.”

~2021~
It had been almost a week since Namjoon had shown up at my doorstep after his trip to New York. I wasn’t sure how long he was still going to be in the States, but we planned to make the most of our time until he had to go back to Korea. Which meant long distance. Namjoon was already talking about when I could visit everything he wanted to show me.
Little had changed since we’d made it official between us. We still texted in our free moments, talked on the phone, and were together whenever his schedule allowed. What changed was the fact that kisses were much more common, he might hold my hand or rest his large hand on the small of my back. In the back of the car his arm would over my shoulders. It was comfortable to fall into that with him, the same way the flirting had always come naturally. Despite my initial efforts to keep our relationship as platonic. Something I had been trying to do to protect myself. I was no one special, I hadn’t seen how I could fit into his life. Yet here I was, now faced with trying to navigate it. We had talked about some of what it might entail, but Namjoon kept promising me that he would do everything to protect me. The biggest part of that was keeping our relationship out of the public eye. He also wanted to ease me into meeting the other members of his group. Which meant I hadn’t met them yet.
One afternoon when I was at work I had two men come in. I recognized them immediately. The museum was quiet because it was the middle of the day. I took my keys and approached them, but just as I had done with Namjoon, I did not acknowledge that I knew who they were.
“Good afternoon, can I help you?”
“Oh uh, our friend highly recommended this place to explore on our day off.” One of them said, I think it was Jin.
I fiddled with my keys lightly which caught the attention of his companion. His eyes flickered down then his brows raised in surprise as he nudged his friend. He said something quietly in Korean. I realized this was either V or Jungkook. I admittedly kept confusing them in videos. JIn looked and smiled. I had the keychain that Namjoon had brought back from New York attached to my keys.
“Does Namjoon know you’re here?” I raised a brow with a smirk. They weren’t slick. When I called them out, immediately they both looked at me with wide eyes.
“Well…” Jin started before deflating slightly and shaking his head, “No.”
“He’s been talking about you all the time. We weren’t really sure you were real.”
I felt the way my cheeks warmed hearing that Namjoon talked about me all the time. “I’m quite real,” I smiled. “He’s talked about introductions, but I think he wants to ease into it."
“He thinks we’ll embarrass him, Taehyung.” Jin looked at his companion. It clicked, this was V not Jungkook.
To not seem too suspicious, I walked them through the museum as we talked. Making it look like a tour, but our conversation was kept low. Taehyung didn’t talk as much, but I realized it was because he wasn’t as confident in his english. Jin did okay, we were able to hold some conversation. When they left, Jin expressed that he hoped Namjoon brought me around soon.
Me: I just had two visitors at the museum.
Me: Pretty sure they were friends of yours.
Namjoon: By any chance, Korean, brown hair, about 178cm tall?
I laughed reading his description, since it described both of them.
Me: Spot on.
Namjoon: I knew those two were up to something. I’m sorry, jagiya.
Me: No need. Maybe we should do introductions though. If they’re getting curious?
Namjoon: Dinner, maybe?
Me: How about at my place? Private, out of the public eye. I can cook or we can order in.
Namjoon: Are you sure?
Me: Absolutely.
We had made the plans. Namjoon had insisted on ordering food. Not because my cooking was bad but to feed seven men in their mid to late twenties was a lot of food. That was his reasoning and i wasn’t going to argue with him.
When the guys arrived, they all came in bowing politely and greeting me. Namjoon moved to my side, his hand resting at the small of my back as he went about introducing each of the members.
“You met Jin-hyung and Tae. This is Yoongi-hyung and Hobi. That’s Jimin and Jungkook.” He introduced the other four members. Then he grinned, “This is my girlfriend, Y/N.”
Despite being guests in my home they all stepped in to get the food out and everything. Being an apartment with no real dining area we all gathered in the living room. None of them seemed to mind the overly casual nature of it all. When everyone was done eating, Jimin and Jin started cleaning up.
“Oh, I can take care of that.” I said moving to help them. Both protested and Namjoon pulled me back down to sit. I was just unfamiliar with their dynamic.
It was a good night, relaxed. I got a bit more of a feel of them all, more than what I would ever get through interviews and performances. Because this was their personal time. They felt like a group of brothers. They bickered, messed around, but supported one another. I was able to see that just from one night. All of them seemed to be genuinely happy for Namjoon. At times when they really got going, the entire conversation was in Korean. Namjoon would lean down and whisper in my ear, translating for me.
As the night wound down the other six headed out to the cars they’d called. Namjoon lingered a little longer to say good night.
“See, that went well.” I smiled looking up at him.
“It did, I’m glad we did this,” Namjoon said as he pulled me into him, arms around my waist.
“I have one take away from it though.”
“And what is that?”
“I better start learning Korean.” I smiled, but his response made me laugh. He had a good point, I was sure of it.
“The best way to learn Korean is to get a Korean boyfriend. Step one, complete.”

~2022~
After that night we’d made some headway by meeting in the middle, we had to take some time off from the project because of engagements that he had with his group. At least now we knew there was a possibility that we could agree on something, so maybe there was a chance this wouldn’t end poorly.
This project was causing some major issues with my relationship though. Because it was a lot of late nights at the studio and weird hours. Having to work around Suga’s schedule made it a very different collaboration than anything I had done before. But I knew that it would be good for my career if I could make this work. This wasn’t the first time my boyfriend had taken issue with who I was working with. What he didn’t get was that it was all part of the industry. We were fighting more, he always made a point to call at least once when he knew I was in the studio with Suga. Which was upsetting because it was so unprofessional. The problem was, I knew if I didn’t answer those calls I was in trouble. I had gotten myself into a very unhealthy relationship, one I knew I needed to get out of. But I was terrified of what might happen if I tried to break it off with him.
The next time Suga and I had a session was the day after a pretty intense argument. I always did my best to leave it at the door, which is why I was completely unaware of the fact that Suga had been piecing it all together. Mostly from the calls he’d witnessed. That night though, I was more agitated than normal.
“Again, you're not listening to me.” I huffed, running my hand through my hair roughly.
Suga turned around in the chair to look at me. “I am, but you’re too distracted to take any criticism.” he said flatly, his expression unreadable.
Of course I felt myself getting defensive. I even missed the way his eyes flickered to my wrist. When I’d brought my hand through my hair it had pushed back my sleeve just enough for the discoloration of a bruise to show before I dropped my arm.
“I think we need to call it today. Come back to it tomorrow,” his tone shifted, it was softer.
“No, I want to work on it.” I felt the way my chest tightened at the idea of going home.
“Y/N, we’re not getting anywhere.” He pointed out.
“Suga, I need this project to be done sooner rather than later. Which means if we call it today it just adds that much more time…”
“Yoongi.” He said, causing me to stop.
“What?”
“My name, call me Yoongi. You don’t need to keep calling me Suga.”
It was enough to distract me, knock me off my train of thought as I looked at him.
We called it a day shortly after that. It was the first session I didn’t get a call, but I knew it was because I was home far earlier than my boyfriend had expected. Which meant he thought it was because I was giving into him, submitting to his demands from the day before.
Over our next two sessions, between plenty of bickering, we had finally had a real breakthrough. It felt like we were actually making some headway. As if we had finally found our groove. Despite clashing at every turn, he was a good producer. It was just the fact that we didn’t quite see eye to eye on things. But when we finally found that groove, I felt like maybe we could make something award worthy with this track. It also meant that maybe this whole collaboration would be done soon.
As we were packing up there was a knock then two people came in. Yoongi frowned, “I said I’d meet you guys.” I noticed that he switched to English.
“I know, but Nari needed to use the bathroom.” The man motioned to the woman that stood just behind him. I recognized the man as RM from Yoongi’s group.
“I can show you where it is,” I offered.
“Thanks, that’d be great. Traffic was horrible.” The other woman, Nari, smiled.
I nodded and moved to lead her out of the main studio space. As we walked by I heard RM, in Korean, make a comment with a smirk. “So, that’s your she-devil.”
“She knows Korean, Namjoon.”
He switched to english to swear, “Oh shit.”
I realized the comments made meant Yoongi had been talking about me. Being called a she-devil wasn’t the most flattering thing, but I wasn’t surprised considering how much the two of us did not get along. I tried not to let it get to me. It was what Nari said as we walked down the hall that really threw me.
“Yoongi speaks very highly of you,” She smiled.
“Really? I just heard his friend call me his she-devil.” I raised a brow.
“He does. I think he feels like he met his match with you.” She laughed.
I wasn’t sure what her relation to them was, it was none of my business. When we rounded the corner I pointed out the restroom just as my phone rang. “I need to take this, but I’ll wait for you.”
Nari nodded and went into the bathroom as I answered the call. She was quick but the call hadn’t been. I shifted uncomfortably as I answered his questions with short yes or no. When I saw Nari coming I tried to end the call. “We were just wrapping up, I’ll be leaving soon…. I’m not lying…. Please, stop.” I sighed. “Bye…” I tried to hang up when he commented on the fact that I hadn’t said ‘I love you.’ “Sorry, love you.” my tone was almost hollow.
“Uhm, are you okay?” Nari asked, brow furrowed with concern.
“What? Oh… yeah, I’m fine. Just my boyfriend wanting to know if I was on my way home.”
“Ah, well okay.” She said, but she didn’t seem to believe me. I couldn’t blame her, I didn’t really believe myself.
When we got back to the guys, they were talking about the track. RM looked over and smiled as we came back in. “Hey Y/N, we were going to go grab some food. You want to join us?”
As great as that offer was, I knew I couldn’t accept it. I shook my head, “I really need to get home.” As I said it, I felt Yoongi’s eyes on me.
The next morning when I saw Yoongi, he handed me a slip of paper simply saying, “Nari wanted me to give you her number.”
We’d had one more session and everything felt like it had finally come together. Despite how much we had not been getting along, we had produced something great. I felt good about it. But it also meant that we would be parting ways. Which I hoped meant would have things cooling down a little at home. Then maybe I could get my bearings and figure out what I was going to do. What I didn’t know, was that I wasn’t going to get the chance to do any of that.
The problem was, we had lost track of time while we had been working. Being New York in the middle of winter, weather was always a concern. The storm that had been expected had blown in faster and heavier than anticipated. Which meant that when we had gone to leave for the night, it was an absolute white out. It looked like the only vehicles out there were plows and sanders. Anyone else was crazy. I doubted that I’d even be able to make it to the subway on foot.
“We’re just going to have to stay here,” Yoongi said looking out from behind me.
“That’s….” I hesitated.
“Our safest option.” He finished, not letting me argue.
I knew that when it was all said and done, I was going to be in trouble. But there was no way to avoid it. Yoongi was right.
We went back to the studio, there was the couch and two cushioned chairs. I set my bag back down before sinking down onto the couch and checking my phone. The fact it was so late I already knew I was in trouble, but now that I wasn't coming home, I didn’t want to think about it.
“How long has it been going on?” Yoongi asked, startling me.
“What?”
“Your boyfriend, how long has he been hurting you?” the man didn’t play around, coming outright asking something so big.
“I.. he..”
“Don’t tell me he doesn’t. I hear him when he calls you. I’ve seen the bruises on your arm, the one on your side last week.” His jaw was tense.
I knew what he was talking about, what I hadn’t realized was that he’d seen any of them. Especially the one on my side, but then I remembered when I had been reaching for something the way my sweater had risen up slightly.
“I’ve got it under control.” I said, feeling defensive.
“Has it gotten worse because of our project?” He wasn’t backing down, I didn’t understand why it mattered to him to know any of this. When I didn’t answer, he simply nodded. That was answer enough.
“Let me help you, Y/N.”
“You don’t even like me. You have tolerated working with me at best.” I shook my head.
“That is so far from the truth. I admire your drive. You are talented in what you do. Just because we don’t see eye to eye does not mean I have any dislike towards you.”
“I’m fine, Yoongi. I don’t need your help.”
How wrong I was.

~2026~
Namjoon felt like home, dinner with the guys felt like family. The guys talked, excitedly recounting different things from the past month. It was a good catch up, and it was nice to see how happy the guys were. Everyone made sure to save plenty of food for when Yoongi was finally able to join us.
“Hello, Y/N.” Yoongi smiled when he saw me next to Namjoon.
“Hi Yoongi,” I hoped he understood my decision to come even though it meant leaving Yuna and Ara.
“How were the naptime negotiations?” Tae asked with a smirk.
“She is as stubborn as her mother,” Yoongi said with a small smirk and a fondness in his tone.
Everyone remembered the early days between Yoongi and Yuna. The two of them clashed horribly, Yoongi would come around and vent his frustrations with the female producer he was working with. I saw it before the guys did. He liked her. A lot had happened in those early days and it was great to see where they were at now. Much like my relationship with Namjoon, their relationship and child were kept out of the public eye. We offered the bit of normalcy for them.
After dinner everyone helped clean up. We stayed for a bit before Namjoon stood, saying he wanted to head back to our room. The next day was supposed to be a busy one for them being the day before their two concerts.
As we were heading for the door, Yoongi stood as well. “I’ll walk out with you.”
We all said good night and headed out. I felt like Yoongi had something on his mind. He always had that particular look when he was thinking about something.
“I wanted to run something by you two,” he said as we walked down the hall.
“Everything okay?” Namjoon asked, I felt him shifting into his leader role, concern for his member and friend.
Yoongi nodded, “Have you two discussed how long…”
“I’m staying?” I finished and he nodded. “No, we wanted to get over this weekend’s shows first.”
“Namjoon, would you be opposed to Y/N staying through Vegas?” Yoongi asked, “Possibly revisit things after Busan, too?”
“What’s going on Yoongi?” Namjoon asked. “No, I wouldn’t be opposed to my wife staying if that’s what she wants to do. But I’m not quite following.”
“I want Yuna and Ara to join us,” Yoongi finally said. “I’m putting too much on my wife leaving her to parent alone. Her village is here.”
“What did Yuna say to that?” I asked, recalling his comparison of wife and daughter with their stubbornness.
“She’s not thrilled by it, says it isn’t a normal environment for a toddler. I agree, but I also feel like it’s more important that she’s surrounded by her support system.”
I had a feeling the ‘her’ in that statement was more about Yuna. I knew their history probably as well as Yoongi because I had become her confidant in those early days when things were bad. Before they had ended up together.
“We all talked about this Yoongi-hyung.” Namjoon said carefully. “We agreed uprooting the girls wasn’t what we wanted to do.”
“I think we made a mistake. This whole tour has been meant to be the selves we have become. That includes our families we’ve built. Don’t you see that by Y/N being here?”
Namjoon nodded, “I do.”
“I’ll stay, Yoongi. If you want, I will also call Yuna. Talk to her about coming.”
“She’s worried about how the others will feel,” he added.
“Not one of us are able to say no to that little girl,” Namjoon laughed, which seemed to lighten the mood. “You also remember what they said before. Everyone was on board.”
When we got back to our room, I checked the time back home. It would be late afternoon. Yuna picked up a few rings in. We had been texting throughout the few days since I’d made it to the states, but hadn’t talked on the phone. I’d been a bit preoccupied after a month away from Namjoon. After a polite greeting, I carefully eased into the real reason I was calling.
“Yoongi told Joon and I that he proposed you and Ara come on tour.”
“He did. Y/N, am I bad mother if I am actually considering this?” her response surprised me. “I feel like it’s admitting that I can’t do this alone.”
“Yuna, you’ve gone from having your husband, friends, and family surrounding you to just you and Haeun. Even then I know you try to limit how much you leave Ara with Haeun.” Their Nanny was fantastic, but Yuna did her best to balance how much time they were away from their daughter. WIth Yoongi gone she was trying to make up for his absence. She was still a new mom, even if Ara was two. “You know the guys were all on board with it when the tour started. Nothing has changed.”
We talked a little longer before she said she needed to call Yoongi to start making the arrangements. With all of this happening, I realized it meant that I would be staying, too.
Namjoon emerged from the bathroom shortly after I had gotten off the phone. His sweats hung dangerously low on his hips and his hair damp. Despite five years and being married to that man, that look still managed to get me a bit flustered.
“So, I guess this means I'm staying.” I looked up at him.
“Good, because I need you here.” Namjoon smiled. “It was a mistake, leaving you behind.”
“We thought it was what would be best, Joon. We need to make mistakes to learn.” I set my phone aside. Our whole relationship had been trying to figure out how to balance us and his career as an idol.
He came over to where I sat on the edge of the bed and leaned down, hands on either side of me pressed into the mattress so that we were eye to eye. “You know what this means?” he smirked and I saw that dimple of his appear. “I get to have you at every stop. No more time differences.” As he said it he went to kiss my neck. “No more phone tag.” Another kiss working his way up. “No more lonely hotels.” Another kiss. “No more sleepless nights because I can’t get you out of my head.” Each kiss had brought him up along my jaw until he got to my lips. As he kissed me, I leaned back and he moved with me. Namjoon always had this yearning, even as established as we were in our love for one another. He nipped at my lip pulling away just enough to say one more thing, smirking as his lips brushed against mine with his words.
“Every fucking night I get to have you, Jagiya.”

~2026~
Yoongi had called back later that night as promised to read Ara her bedtime story. It appeased our toddler a little, but she was starting to struggle with her Appa being so far away. I had been thinking all afternoon about what he’d said. It wasn’t ideal, I wasn’t sure if it was a good idea. But I couldn’t shake it.
When Nari didn’t come around, Ara noticed. In the last month especially, Nari had been a constant in our days.
“Where Nari?” Ara pouted.
“She went to see Uncle Joonie.” I told her as I fixed her little jacket. That had been a mistake, telling her that Nari was with Uncle Joonie. She was too young to put together that being with Uncle Joonie also meant the her other five uncles and more important, her Appa. Either way, the tears started and her pout grew more pronounced.
“I wanna see Joonie!”
At that moment, I was kicking myself. However, I did take a picture and send it to Nari.
Me: Someone is very upset that you’re seeing uncle Joonie and she’s not.
Nari: Not that I am also seeing Appa?
Me: She hasn’t made the connection yet. I only told her you had to leave to go see uncle Joonie.
I knew that Nari would likely show Namjoon. But I also sent the picture to Yoongi.
Me: This reaction is because I told her Nari went to see Uncle Joonie.
Yoongi: Your biggest mistake of the day.
Me: As soon as I said it I realized my mistake.
Yoongi: We’re under strict orders not to bother Namjoon. Otherwise I’d suggest video calling him. Share the pain.
Me: Oh no, I don’t cross Nari when it comes to Joon.
Yoongi: Smart.
Things were going as smooth as they could. It had been a month and I was still trying to find my groove. Still, there were going to hiccups. Like Ara absolutely refusing to go down for her afternoon nap. I had set her down three times now and each time she came darting out of her room. I knew if she didn’t go down at least for a little while we would be in for a miserable night. The third time she’d come out, I put her back down went outside and sat outside her door as she had a tantrum at being put back down for her nap. I sighed, leaning my head back against the wall then pulled out my phone. I caved and called Yoongi.
“Nae sa-rang,” He answered on the second ring.
“I need help, Yoongi.” I said quietly. I felt defeated. Bedtime and naptime were becoming the bane of my existence.
“What’s wrong?”
“It’s nap time. We don’t want to nap.” I sighed.
“Let me talk to her.” His tone was gentle. I knew he felt some guilt. I didn’t mean to make him feel that way. We had discussed what this was going to look like with their comeback and tour. Nevermind when they had been recording. But we had traveled a bit during the recording process because I had been there to help with some of the album. Only give some insight, I had not been an official producer. It wasn’t an ideal circumstance, but I knew what I was looking at when the guys made their post-military comeback.
I pushed the door open, “Ara, Appa wants to talk to you.” I twisted to look into the room as she came over and made grabbie hands for my phone. I put him on speaker phone then handed her the phone.
Ara was articulate for her age, but in her tantrum she wasn’t very coherent. I listened as Yoongi talked to her trying to reason from overseas. She did start to come down from her heightened state, but she was still arguing with a lot of ‘no’s interjected. No was becoming her favorite word.
At one point I heard him say something not directed at her, I realized it was Hobi he was talking to. But he was quick to get back to negotiating with his daughter.
“You need to be nice to eomma,” Yoongi said.
I listened as he talked, peeking in and realized she’d gone quiet. Then I saw that she had finally laid down and fallen asleep. Of course it was in the middle of her bedroom floor. But I would take it. As quietly as possible, I got up and went in to take my phone back.
Carefully I closed the door, “She’s out. Thank you, Yoongi.” I whispered.
Once I was down the hall away from her room, I sat on the couch. “I heard you tell Hobi you’d meet them… You should get to your dinner.”
“You sound tired, nae sa-rang.”
“It’s hard not having you here, but we’re managing.” This was the first time that I had caved and called him. Bedtime was already a planned call. He made a point to keep that small window of time open, even in his busy schedule. It worked out because while he was overseas it usually meant it was after the show. So while the guys did a life with ARMY, he was on a video call reading a bedtime story to his daughter.
“I meant what I said before… about you two joining us on tour.”
I didn’t want to admit that I’d been seriously considering it. I had. The problem was, this tour was supposed to be freedom for them, they were doing things their way. It meant going out and exploring. Wives and children felt like an odd addition to it all. But Yoongi liked to remind me that their lives were changing, their lives had changed.
“Yoongi…” I sighed.
“I mean it, Y/N. Plus, Nari is here.”
“We don’t know how long Nari is going to stay.” I reminded him. When I had asked her again what she was thinking, she had said that her and Namjoon hadn’t talked about it. “You don’t need the added…”
“I want you here, nae sa-rang.” He finally said it outright. “I want my girls with me.”

“It doesn’t work.” I said, hearing the edge to my tone. I was so frustrated and I could not wait until this project was done. At that moment I was standing, having been pacing. We had been arguing for the past half hour about the direction of the track that we were currently working on.
“You’re just not listening.” He growled, leaning back in the chair with his arms folded across his chest.
“I am listening,” I glared back at him. “I put that together, it’s you who isn’t listening.”
We had been clashing since our first meeting on this project. He was coming in to work on the track between his group’s work. I knew who BTS were, I was familiar with Suga’s work. But I had never anticipated things being this… hostile between us. The first day when we had gotten into it, he’d muttered something in Korean and I had surprised him when I came back at him in his native language, making it quite clear I had understood him.
Language and music had always fascinated me. In the end, I’d learned three other languages fluently. As a hobby. Music had become my career, working my way through school and into the world of producing. It was just the way my brain worked. But if you gave me math when it didn’t relate to music… well you’d better check my work.
I had heard only positive things about Min Yoongi, better known professionally as Suga or Agustd depending on the day. So having the opportunity to work with him had been exciting. Until it wasn’t. Now I couldn’t wait for this collaboration to be done. We’d had the artist back in the recording book several times now, and yet we were still unable to come to any form of agreement. He was straightforward but at times it came off as harsh or blunt. The two of just just plain were not seeing eye to eye on this project.
“We have a deadline,” I reminded him.
“I’m not putting out slop.” He didn’t move, his expression didn’t changed, but his voice sharpened.
“I’m not saying we half ass this. What I am saying is we need to figure out how to work together.” I needed some air. “Since it’s going to be a long night, I’m getting coffee.” and because I wasn’t a complete jerk just because we weren’t getting along. “Do you want anything?”
“Decaf would be great.”
I raised my brow and considered questioning it, but it was one of the more productive conversations we had had in the last hour, so I’d take it. “Okay.”
“Thank you Y/N.”
I paused looking back at him and offered a slight smile and nod in acknowledgement.
The fresh air was exactly what I needed as I walked to the cafe around the corner. I was so frustrated with how this project was going. He had great ideas, but everything we were trying to do just didn’t seem to mesh. He was critical and a perfectionist. Which wasn’t a bad thing. But when there was a slight misalignment it was causing some major strife. I just wasn’t sure how this was going to work. However, both of us were being stubborn so there was no chance either of us were going to walk away from the project. There was too much potential. I took my time, but knew not to waste time. I got our order and headed back to the studio.
When I got back, I put the coffees down and went to go back to my laptop. That was when my phone went off. Checking it I frowned, but there must have been something else in my expression the way Suga watched me. “I’m sorry, I have to take this.” he merely nodded, but still watched me. “Hey,” I answered, my entire body tensing. “No, it’s going to be a late night… I know… No… It’s work… No I can’t just table it, we’re on a timeline….. His schedule….” As soon as I had said his it was enough to cause a bigger problem. I turned away from Suga, still feeling his eyes on me.
This wasn’t the first time he’d witnessed one of these calls. It was extremely unprofessional and I was embarrassed. He never said anything about it though, never called attention to it.
“Look, I have to go.” I finally said, not missing the way my voice wavered ever so slightly. Finally I hung up and turned back towards where Suga sat. “Sorry about that.”
“No need to apologize, and thank you for the coffee.” His tone had lost the edge. “I think I may have found something that could work. I was looking at it while you were gone.” He motioned for me to come sit.
Grabbing my own coffee I moved over to the chair next to him. He showed me the change he had made while I was gone. What he had done seemed to actually meet in the middle of what we had been arguing about.
“It’s good… now we just have to work through a dozen more problems.” I smiled.
*~*~*~*~*
They had been going at it all afternoon and making no headway. So when she announced after their most recent spat that she needed coffee, he didn’t argue. Despite constantly clashing though, she wasn’t impolite and offered to get him something. He’d accepted the offer, a small smirk playing on his lips when she caught him asking for decaf. For a moment he thought she might question it, but in the end she simply accepted it. He’d stopped drinking regular coffee the previous year because of what it was doing to his stomach.
“Thank you, Y/N.” She nodded to him in acknowledgement before leaving.
While she was gone he looked back at the section they had been arguing over. There needed to be a way to meet in the middle and for it to work. Then he saw it. Making a few tweaks, he felt like it could actually work. Listening back a few times, he was happy with it. Maybe they could figure this out.
As soon as she got back her phone rang. Looking at his watch he thought to himself Right on time. It wasn’t the first time she’d gotten a call while they were working. Slowly he’d been piecing it together. She was a strong and opinionated woman, but any time she took those calls it was like watching her morph into someone else entirely. He figured out that it was a boyfriend or husband. Yoongi assumed a boyfriend because he didn’t see a ring on her left hand. The man definitely didn’t like that she was working with him. Any mention of him and it always seemed to agitate him more. He watched her as she took the call, the way her whole demeanor shifted. The moment she mentioned his schedule after the timelines he saw her flinch. A few minutes later she was doing her best to get off the phone, apologizing.
There was absolutely no need for her to be apologizing. Which he was sure to tell her before shifting the subject back to their work. Yoongi wanted her to see that maybe they could meet in the middle

I want more, Jagiya
Namjoon made his point known. He didn’t want to be just friends, he wanted more. I had found myself in quite the position. Somehow I had caught his eye. He was known internationally, appearing on talk shows, performed in sold out concerts. Yet for some reason he had locked in on me. When I was with him it was so easy to forget that he wasn’t just Namjoon, the intellectual book worm who appreciated art. That was the part of him I got. There was a whole part of his life that I only saw from the outside looking in. I had yet to really step into that part of his life. But the fact that he wanted more, he wasn’t going to be able to keep both parts of his life as two separate entities.
I hadn’t dismissed what he’d said, but I hadn’t initially known how to respond. We were both lying in bed thousands of miles away from one another. My mind was racing, coming up with a hundred different scenarios on how this could all go wrong.
“Talk to me, Y/N.” Namjoon’s voice was soft and low.
“How would this work, Namjoon? I know that I don’t always acknowledge your fame, but…” I wasn’t sure. “I’m not part of that life…” I whispered.
“We figure it out, it might not be easy but nothing worth it is. One thing I have learned is you have to take risks to get what you want.” He paused, “Do you want this?”
I looked at him, thousands of miles away, knowing that this would likely be a big part of a relationship if we did take the chance at more. I already knew my answer as I nodded. “Yeah, I think I do.”
The next night I stayed up to watch the show that the guys were appearing on. Curled up on the couch, I sipped some tea while I waited until they had been announced and came out to sit with the host. This was different than watching the past interviews I had checked out, because as I sat there watching the reality of our conversation the night before hit me. We had decided to take the risk. I wasn’t just looking at him as the performer, with his charisma, promoting their new music. I was watching my potential boyfriend. It felt weird to even think it. Still the label felt a little odd, not that we had actually made anything official yet. We were both just in agreement at this moment that we both wanted more.. But it didn’t feel quite real. I still wasn’t entirely sure what I was getting myself into. But Namjoon had made a good point about taking risks. He was so confident as he spoke with the host and helped the others through the interview. His English was the strongest. He clearly knew how to handle himself in front of the camera and audience.
I knew that they were coming back the next day. I was busy with work but texted with him throughout the day between his travel times. We had just gotten some new pieces in at work that were going to restoration, so I was cataloguing everything. It helped to keep myself from overthinking everything that was happening between Namjoon and I. We had agreed that we were going to give a relationship a shot or at least explore the idea of it. Of course there were going to be some things that we needed to navigate. Because we weren’t always going to be able to just ignore the biggest elephant in the room, his public status. I was still trying to wrap my mind around how much of a global phenomenon their group was. I had known who they were, just not how big they really were.
Their flight had been delayed at a layover and Namjoon had spent free time texting me until they were able to board. He was becoming such a constant in my day since we’d exchanged numbers.
Early in the evening I was making myself some dinner when my phone buzzed with an unexpected text.
Namjoon: I’m outside your place.
Me: I’ll let you in.
I went over to remotely unlock it so he could get in. A few minutes later there was a light knock on my apartment door. Namjoon looked as though he had come straight from the airport, wearing comfortable clothes with headphones around his neck. He smiled as soon as I opened the door.
“What are you doing here?” I asked, moving out of his way so that he could come in. Surprised but not upset by the visit.
“You said the only thing you wanted me to bring back from New York for you was me.” He grinned, “So I’m delivering on that.”
I laughed, shaking my head. “You’re just a little ridiculous, you know that?”
“But, I did bring you something else.” he said before pulling a keychain out of his pocket and holding it up. It was one of those keychains that you’d find at the airport or a gift shop. It was a silly little gift. ‘
“Thank you,” I smiled while taking it, “I’ll put it on my keys.” It was a genuine sentiment, he had brought it back for me and I would indeed put it on my keyring.
Namjoon moved, taking a small step closer. “I also came by so that maybe we could talk about the other night?” he dropped his voice just a bit. It was enough to make me blush as I looked up at him.
“What about it?” I raised a brow, trying not to smile - and failing.
“You… me…” He pointed between us with a smirk. “Us… The idea of giving this a chance to be something.” As he said it, he moved closer still. I didn’t budge nor did I take my eyes off him.
“Right,” I nodded. “I think it was already said the other night.” I bit my lip and don’t miss the way his eyes flicker down to my lips.
“Are we doing this?” he asked softly, waiting for my answer.
I nodded and that was enough for him, as he took my face into his hands and kissed me.
As he pulled away from the kiss, almost reluctantly, he brought his hands down to my hips. “Nothing in life that’s worth it doesn’t come without taking risks.”
“This is the biggest risk I’ve ever taken. Don’t hurt me, Namjoon.”
“I have no intention of that, Jagiya.”
