Tiny is Better
Tiny Hibernation
The brisk dry arctic air slowly begins to brush over the North American continent I call home. The winter months are always a special time of year. However, this year the white beauty of winter came with different meaning.
As the days begin to get shorter, The amount of time I have been able to dedicate to building the tiny house has dwindled. Parked atop a snow-covered hill waiting patiently against the tree line, the tiny house has gone into hibernation of its own.
I have become so dedicated to completing the house, the recent 20 inches of snowfall have created a straitjacket around me. It is difficult to find ways to escape this strangling hold of the python of a snow-filled winter. The interior of the house is barren, but the exterior needs more attention to prepare for the remaining winter months.
I currently stand above a dividing abyss of decision. Hope of finishing the tiny before summer 2018 has become dismally faint. I'll let you know what I decide. Let me sleep on it. Stay posed for more tiny fulfillment...

Tiny Origins
A distinct aroma of gasoline and morning dew radiate through the damp forest. The celestial silence of the wooded land is abruptly interrupted by the piercing permeating whirring roar of the sawyer’s saw. Linear combustion sends the unforgiving metal teeth into circular motion. A large pine is felled.
We take most of lives for granted. Minimal thought goes into the origin of our material-fueled lives. Houses become bigger along with our egos. Whirling in a circular motion of our own, cycling through meaningless lives headed on a one-way trip toward oblivion. Greed and want overcome necessity, squandering any true meaning that life has to offer. However, there are a select group of renegades—the outsiders and romantics—tirelessly ascending the mudslide of modern living, becoming more in-tune with the meaning of living a fulfilling life.
Studs line the plywooded floor precisely 16 inches apart leading upward to a new hope. The distinct smell of kiln-dried pine fills the air, dusted with sawdust. Unplugging from the droning world of robotic oblivion to build bigger out of smaller. A tiny house is being born.
For the past five years I have been living in the shadow of my dark horse. The hope of building a tiny house has been a safety blanket helping me rise above the robotic drone of systematic movement. Not until this fall of 2017 did I begin to embark on the sobering journey of a builder’s bliss, reaching toward the light of tiny living.
From a duck-taped floor-plan laid out in my oversized living room to a studded skeleton to the front door hanging; the halfway-done tiny house is comfortably nestled atop a 5’x10’ Home Depot trailer, and has given me hope for a future of real living. There are still many late nights left in the building journey of my tiny house, leading to the pathway of the most diverse simple life. So, here is to the renegades leading a movement of tiny homes and big lives! Stay posted for more tiny fulfillment…
