Raw Food Restaurants!
I found two restaurants in Melbourne that include raw foods on their menu!! I hope they don't have legumes in them :D
Le Cru in Albert Park
Yong Green Food in Fitzroy
Will post once I've tried them!
Paleo picnic!
On the menu:-
Chicken drumsticks fried in chili, garlic and thyme; ham and pineapple frittatta; mango and kiwi fruit in heavy cream; coconut and mango juice.
Ok I’m going more overboard with the heavy cream I think than is intended, but I’ll scale it back next week :P
Manicure Monday: Comic nails, by Fleury Rose
These are just lovely!
MUST attempt this.

Manicure Monday: custom Gotham City Sirens nail set, by Jihye Lee.
Just when I thought that Jihye Lee’s nail art couldn’t get any cuter than her Harley Quinn x Poison Ivy set, she whipped up this custom order featuring all three Gotham City Sirens. This nail set features miniature portraits of each Batman femme fatale, as well as their respective pets (note: I think that I can safely say that this is probably the only manicure in existence that contains both a hyena and/or a Venus Flytrap). Check out that teeny, tiny Batarang dangling off the pinky nail! :D
More geeky awesomeness - what I wouldn't give to have these nails!

Here’s what I did to a poor innocent t-shirt today, instead of studying.
I must confess I got the idea from this amazing illustration by Annie Wu.
Working on a budget but really want some new clothes? Drop by your local thrift store, pick up a few things that spark your interest and modify them!
Really keeping an eye out for easy geeky costumes right now for a dress up party I'm going to at the end of the month - this is WAY cute!!!!
Just reading your blog about your healthy eating plans has totally made me realise that my 'diet' should have alot less of the foods that i actually have been eating :( But I have managed to cut out alot of sugars (where I used to be drinking coke and redbull a day) its now down to maybe one can every week/2 weeks and its coke zero...I havent actually weighed myself yet so dont know whther im losing weight, but im feeling better so its not all bad :D
Hey dude, not sure when you sent this, but keep going with the no sugar thing if you can! Diet soft drinks are actually still bad for your insulin, the way I weened myself off them was to go from soft drink to juice and then juice to water. That way you deal with the caffeine cravings first, then the sugar. Plus the fruit juice sugar is more natural, not refined (provided you get the no added sugar ones that is lol)
I went from 2 cans of mother a day to tea with one sugar a couple of times a week - it can be done!!
I’m waiting for the Indian Summer, but I can’t wait to wear more fall colors - and beautylish has this list of fun and inspiring things to prep for autumn! I should do #4, 5, and 8… (via Get Ready for Fall, ballerinabrokendreams)

Seriously looove Elie Saab’s dresses! Also it says his fragrance is a solar floral…interesting. (via Elie Saab Fragrance)
Prettiest dresses ever!!
Bah, it's Wednesday already. Feeling especially blah today, partly due to the fallout of my few slip-ups on the weekend. My weight has fluctuated a little too, but that's nothing a bit of hiphop and salsa can't fix!! :D
Meanwhile I'm having a motivated week of cooking thanks to the awesomely successful markets visit on Sunday. Ive been scouring cooking magazines for Recipes to cook or convert (how i love converting recipes!!) Last night I cooked up some steak with paprika, cumin seeds, garlic, and tomatoes in line It was still a little bland so I threw in 2 small chillies (with 1/4 of the seeds) and a few fresh mint leaves and added some carrots and broccoli.
It wasn't brilliant but it did the job.
Unfortunately I only made enough for dinner so I have to fend for myself in the horrid glare of the food court today - boo!!
I might just buy a whole chicken from Coles and make a salad :)
ALSO a workmate pointed me in the direction of a health store on swanston street that had a small selection of very exciting goodies including coconut chocolate butter? Was severely tempted but at $18 a jar I resisted... For now.
Found the zucchini spaghetti post!! Most awesome idea ever!! :D
Oh dear
I've had a most unpaleo weekend. I will most definitely have to redo my 30 day challenge once I'm done. It all started with an eggs benedict bagel from my new favourite cafe in hawthorn... With a chai latte!!! I did refrain from eating the whole bagel though..
As per my usual Saturday, breakfast was had at the crack of noon so my second and last meal of the day was inspired by an idea I saw on a paleo blog where you make "spaghetti" out of Julienne zucchini. I topped it with some bolognaise sauce I made the other night in anticipation of this meal.
I over-cooked the zucchini slightly but otherwise it was quite good!! And gave me lots of other ideas of dishes to make with my new Julienne peeler (carrot/zucchini/pumpkin "noodles" anyone?).
Unfortunately I wandered into a chocolate store earlier that afternoon and bought a little packet of crazy-moreish dark chocolate almonds. Yuuuuum.
Today a had another late breakfast of reheated chicken soup after we returned from the markets with a MASSIVE stash of meat, veg and fruit. Totally set for the week - no excuses!!
I also found both almond milk AND hazelnut milk!! Just when I had despaired of never finding a nut milk without having to order online. I totally had a smoothie today and it was amazing :D
Tonight planning to have Cajun salmon with a rocket, tomato, avocado salad. Yummy!!
Fridays food!!
Breakfast: A granny smith apple, 2 organic mandarines and a small portion of cashews and macadamia nuts.
Lunch: beef mince soup kinda thing I throw together sometimes with bacon, tomato, celery, capsicum, cabbage, onion, chili, garlic, peppercorns, paprika.
Dinner: we ate out so I ate the only paleo- friendly meal they had, a lamb shank and veg soup. It wasn't very hearty so unfortunately I did sneak a bite of bread after I'd finished... But I didn't enjoy it!!
:D
Paleo Update!
So I've been attempting Paleo since my last detox post... must be about 6 weeks? It's been a very interesting journey.
Intially I was paleo-except-for-breakfast. It was just too difficult for me to wrap my head around the idea of a breakfast that doesn't involve grains/cereals or dairy. So I worked toward omitting non-paleo foods during the rest of the day.
Thing is, I started to feel really flat and gross. I couldn't work out why, since the only changes I had really made to my diet was reducing my dairy intake. Prior to starting the diet I had already eliminated starchy carbohydrates (potatoes, bread, rice), reduced my sugar/caffeine intake (ie, reduced my tea drinking) and consumed beans no more than once a week, legumes barely at all.
I consulted with a friend at work who had recommended he diet and he recommended increasing my fruit intake. I'd never really eaten much fruit, it just wasn't something I was given often as a child, so I went out and bought some basic fruit - apples, mandarines and kiwi fruit - and forewent my normal breakfast of yoghurt and fruit-free, nut muesli, and instead ate several pieces of fruit. I generally ate them through the course of the morning, since, as I said, I'm really not used to eating fruit.
In line with the normal detox period, I felt slightly worse for 3 days. On the fourth... I felt FANTASTIC! More rested than I've felt in months, maybe years. It was the missing piece of the puzzle.
For the last 2 weeks I've been trying to do the 30 day paleo challenge. This challenge is hardcore paleo - all the normal rules (no beans, legumes, tubers, dairy, sugar, unprocessed anything) and of course no alcohol (a firm cheat item previously), plus no "paleofying" unhealthy recipes. No paleo pizza, pancakes, etc.
The last point was hard for me, as I had hunted and hunted and finally found a packet of coconut flour (which was surprisingly cheap, from a health food store at South Melbourne Market) and was keeeeen to try it out. I did make some coconut banana muffins (awesome!), coconut pancakes (not bad) and a coconut flour pizza base (not great...) before I came across this challenge so at least I had managed to get some experimentation in before starting the diet.
SO I am proud to report:-
I have had NO CHEESE in a month;
I rarely drink milk - maybe once or twice a week;
No grains at all - including my beloved fruit-free, nut muesli;
I'm eating fruit every day;
Loads of protein and vegetables for lunch and dinner;
Very rarely buy lunch now;
No alcohol in two weeks!!
I have cheated a little bit on this diet, so once the 30 days is up, I will take a few weeks off (for my birthday ;D) and then start again.
When I reach a weight I'm happy with I will most likely take a more moderate approach to the diet, but keep the fundamentals, focusing on whole foods.
May start posting my food diary so I can see exactly what I'm eating also - watch this space!
