i hate that love has felt like something easily attained for everyone else but unattainable for me

now, i’m not here to be like “woe is me”

i know i’m smart, accomplished, and driven.

but for once, i want to be soft, accompanied, and desired.

i know i’m capable, independent, and educated.

but for once, i want to be cared for.

i want the intimacy of being held.

i want someone to be enamored by flaws as well as my accomplishments.

i want someone to admire me the way we admire the stars.

at the age of six years old, i realized that there were going to be people in this world that wouldn’t like me, solely because my skin could match the sun and the earth in its beauty

at the age of nine, i realized that there were systems in place to protect me. i also learned they had to be added in.

now, you’re wondering why im telling you this.

to exist is one thing in itself. to know that your existence will be met with hatred you’ll never be able to pinpoint, is another.

yet, i exist. i exist like the stars.

as a black woman, i am told to hold myself to the highest regard

how am i supposed to do that, when the world sees me as nothing??

yet, i exist, with persistence like stars drowned out by light pollution

you say listen to black women, but you never actually acknowledge them long enough to.

yet, i exist, like the stars; enough to be seen, never long enough to be noticed

you say if you’re ever in trouble go to a black woman

who does a black woman go to when she’s in trouble?

yet, i exist, like the stars, isolated and surrounded.

i am a star.

i shine.

i wait.

i exist.

the second screenshot is looking up the same exact thing, but with a (australian) vpn on. canadian vpn didn't fix it fyi.
