Remember that time the Buckley parents announced out of nowhere that they were getting a divorce for absolutely no reason, and then nothing really came of it, nothing changed, and it hasn’t been mentioned since?

Wild.

I'm not going to lie, the Buckley divorce remains HILARIOUS to me because there is literally NO reason for it. The Buckleys had so many things happen that would reasonably break up a marriage.

They lost a child. They severed themselves from their entire community support system so they wouldn't be judged for having Buck the way they did. They were empty-nesters AND they were estranged from both their living children. Their daughter was horribly abused. Their son was in a series of life threatening situations. They LIVED TOGETHER IN A FUCKING RV. Alllllllll these really stressful moments/situations that can and do break up even the most rock-solid marriages.

And yet.

When they have (more or less) reconciled with their kids, they have a (by all acounts) loving relationship with their grandkids, they have (been implied to have) dealt with their grief over Daniel and moved forward as a family...THAT is when they're like, "yeah we can't do this anymore"

And like--not even in a "we spent so many years together in a pressure cooker of trauma and now that the pressure's gone, we realized there's no actual love or bond holding us together anymore" way. THAT would have been interesting and honestly, realistic. But no, it's just...Surprise Shawty!

I know I advocate for remembering that 911 is a greasy spoon diner, not a Michelin Star restaurant in terms of what to expect from the quality of the writing...but goddang do they have a problem with getting their storytelling backwards. It's not even all the telling vs. showing (tho God knows that's an issue to) it's that SO many of the major emotional points in the last few seasons have so obviously been thrown in to produce the end result that they want, rather than letting the emotional beat be the result of the actions leading to the end result, if that makes sense?

There's no scaffolding or structure that lead us to these big moments, so the big moments feel shoehorned in or like they came completely out of left field.

Welcome to June! Happy Pride Month. Also Happy Birthday Month to Oliver Stark. Which brings us to our next charity venture: Bark, Bothered, And Bewildered! Our goal this month is to raise money for shelter dogs in Oliver’s (& BuckTommy’s) honor. We’ve found a great rescue based in San Francisco called Muttville. What makes this place so unique & special is their mission is about helping senior dogs in particular. Whether it’s providing them loving care, foster homes or helping them in their final days through hospice care. This place is also the nation’s first cage-free facility. They do work with their foster program, donations and adoption events & other galas including Pride/LGBTQ+ causes. Which is a great way to tie-in to Pride Month & both Oliver’s & Lou’s love of dogs! My fucking mortgage company just tried to give me a heart attack. Got a notice from them that they've completed my yearly escrow analysis and projected a shortage so they're going to be raising my payment.

Log in and the shortage is FUCKING TWENTY DOLLARS and my payment is being raised by like 5 cents a month.

A little tough to say, this is a backwards ass state, and the Democrats candidate is a woman, but the republicans have a brown guy with a name that's hard to pronounce

I'll give Amy Acton a slight edge because I expect Ohio to be more racist than sexist

I got to hear Amy Acton speak at my teacher's union delegate assembly last month, and she was amazing. I'm also giving her slight odds over Ramaswamy because Ohio is probably going to be more racist than sexist (at least as long as the woman is white), but I think she also gets some points in rural areas like mine for having grown up poor vs. Ramaswamy's current vast wealth.

More than that, though, people are PISSED at how expensive everything is, and the anger is actually starting to be aimed in the right direction for once. James Carville was very, very right that "It's the economy, stupid" and this economy is not good enough for Ohio to reliably do it's usual "blindly vote against its own interests" schtick. I'm so hopeful that we get Brown back in office and Acton in the governor's mansion.

I really wonder (perhaps suspect) if getting renewed for season 10 wasn't as much of a sure thing as they made it seem. I think maybe they went into the season, or part of it, thinking it could be the last. That's why everything, up to a certain point, really looked like they were gonna be wrapping up Buck's "happily ever after", most likely with Tommy. Same thing with Eddie.

And then, shit, we have a whole other season now that we have to drag this shit out.

Anyways, whether that's true or not, I really feel like the show is on its last legs and it'll take a LOT for them to get season 11. Far better shows have been cancelled for a LOT less. (RIP Brilliant Minds 😭)

I'd kinda wondered that myself, honestly. There was a lot this season that really seemed to fly out of left field at the end--like, even more so than usual, and I was quite surprised by some of the directions they took. Like, honestly, a lot of the threads they ended the season on could have functioned pretty well for a series finale.

And I agree, I don't think season 11 is much of a lock at ALL. Particularly if Nashville doesn't pick up in the ratings. They both seemed to be pretty steady in viewership, but I feel like I saw a lot of commentary about Nashville not doing very well in the "demo" audience at all--or at least not well enough to justify the expense of making it. Sure, they're saving money with TN tax benefits...but they also have multiple cast members that are NAMES, even if they're not as big as Angela Bassett or Jennifer Love Hewitt.

Like I said, I think the Theo situation will likely cover a lot of ground next season as far as Buck's personal storyline. Be interesting to see which direction they go with that.
