it's a wonderful knife starters
merry christmas to you, too!
let's have some fun.
will you shut the hell up?
i'm george bailey! will you be my clarence?
i have so many questions.
why are you so intent on hurting me?
don't embarrass me, okay?
just hear me out.
you remember me?
okay. weird story. i think i'm dead. or invisible.
this is my favorite part!
working on christmas?
you never give women gifts related to their bodies. it's never okay.
i'm so glad you remember.
we are, in fact, married and not roommates.
hey, great job with the tree.
i can handle this.
i love this tradition of opening one gift on christmas eve.
someone's watching us.
do i need to suffer any longer?!
i didn't realize that was your mom.
you're too young to drink.
how can you act like nothing happened?
why would you want to relive that?
this christmas was gonna be my last.
you don't believe me.
____ is dead.
maybe we'll end up there together.
make something up.
no, you're… you're not dead. please. please, wake up.
have you seen my dumb boyfriend?
we're gonna be late!
you two are cute together.
i hate to see you go.
we had our first date here. it's a tradition.
why are you acting like you know me?
just keep my meal warm. i won't be long.
if you ever wanted to see my dick: merry christmas! it's hard to fit it under the tree.
it's like i don't exist.
someone's got the hangover emotions.
don't let that bastard scream at you like that.
you know, it's really something… one person, one life, can change everything just by being gone. and they don't even know it. and they are so lucky that they don't get to see the pain they left in their wake.
charades?
i can't believe you didn't tell me about this!
i'm here for you. no more ignoring anything.
are you two in love?
no one else here knows me.
it's better this way.
look, i want to believe you.
we are so lucky that we started dating on christmas eve.
did you break my window?
i do this all for you!
it didn't hurt. it just sort of… happened.
why not head inside early and make some cocoa?
i never meant for you to find out this way.
you get me.
you just made my naughty list!
i couldn't sleep at all. you snore so loud.
hey, can you drive home later? i need to get drunk.
alright, let's tear these presents open.
i want you to know that you have a friend here.
you want to talk about ____?
i'm surprised you're here.
the lights are so pretty. they should keep them up all year.
get your fuckin' hands off me. this is cashmere.
you're an unexpected wrinkle.
isn't it cute? just like you.
i am so misunderstood.
let's get out of here, yeah?
i was trying to protect you.
am i just supposed to stop living life? live in perpetual fear? let it kill my buzz?
sleep over tonight.
looks like everybody got their wish.
i'll be fine. i promise.
everyone would be better off if i was never born.
get dressed. we're gonna go to my house for breakfast.
it's super rare to see an aurora.
every day i'm sorry.
you've got a future to look forward to.
what's the matter?
i'm not your dad.
look outside. it's snowing.
it's like the after-party after-party. after this party.
can you please stop ignoring what fucking happened last year?
quit pursing your lips. your mouth looks like an asshole.
i don't want to do this anymore.
get off me!
i feel like we need to be a little more cautious here.
fuck. you're a good kisser.
that night still haunts me.
i'm here. and so are you. i don't think that's a coincidence.
are you always alone for christmas?
this happens every christmas. you ought to be used to it by now.
i know that it's hard right now, but i'm your friend and i can't let you do this.
it just helps the vibes, you know?
it's like you just gave up.
ew. what did you eat?
you need me to stay?
we're safe here. loosen those shoulders.
where did everyone go?
is that a baseball bat?
i killed ____.
i'm not going away until you talk to me!
have fun at the party.
i want my life back.
you like it rough! just like your mom.
somebody's trying to kill me.
you think you're gonna come up here and liberate these people? they desire to be ruled.
do i know you?
are you drunk?
you called me "dad."
it's christmas day, right?
great party.
i've always fucking hated you!
you stayed up all night doing this?
i'm a little bit more persuasive than that.
you love pink.
you off to the party?
this could be our only chance.
no more wine.
your ass froze to the ground because you were rocking an aguilerean thong at the 1999 christmas eve park party.
____ is not the man he used to be.
you're not nice.
you matter.
how do we get in?
don't ever call me "weirdo" again.
you're just playing with me?
i wasn't there to save him. and now he's dead.
is this a joke? it's not funny.
i'm gonna invade your personal space.
i don't need help from you!
what a long night.
it's time to let that go.
i forgive you.
i love it here. i belong here.
@nabaidhean-neonach rob said: no, i mean, how old are you? or is that impolite?
"why am i getting harrassed at such an hour?"
can't he stare into the lacklustre luminescence of the refrigerator in peace? can't he come to the harrowing realization that previous assumptions that there was leftover roast stowed away in here might've been a fantasy without having robin rub salt into his wounds? hey, uncle conrad, you old fuck. that's what it sounds like to his delicate ears.
"you should be in bed. asleep. very asleep."
"Soooooo... Not polite?" He hauls himself onto the counter, clambering up drawer handles like a ladder, and they're both lucky he doesn't tumble and break his little head open.
"'S just—" Big hazel eyes lock on his uncle like twin spotlights, all keen ( if kind of frivolous ) focus. "Y'don't look older than Mom. And, umm, I know you're not as old as Dad is, but the other kids' at schools' aunts and uncles 're all kinda" —He makes a vague, clumsy gesture that could mean anything. Or just be how children his age talk,— "like their parents, you know. 'Cept Adrianna, but her grandpa got married again waayyyy after her dad was a kid."

There's a flicker of ambiguous amusement, most of it directed inwardly, but just enough of it seeps onto that benign and vulgar face.
"You don't like me very much."
@hungryyheart
The lighter in his hand turns over, once, and his eyes flick up to his face for just a moment, before disappearing into a breast pocket. "Not very."
Z marvels at the bobbles and the shimmers. It makes them want to glow a little more themself. Nothing wrong with letting that perception warp leak through a bit more.
"Yeah, I figure I might as well translate my experience into something interesting. I can't help but agree - the process of making is truly fascinating and worth investing so much of myself into it."
It rolls and gawks up at them with the spinning stars of its center [or 𝔰𝔬𝔪𝔢𝔱𝔥𝔦𝔫𝔤 like that] like a pile of kittens showing their fluffy little stomachs.

one trinket looks very much like the next, this time of year. how was he supposed to know it was the trinket? his zoomies don't discriminate -- don't any of them realize this?
"i'm no villain," he announces, in a normal fashion, to the household. "and i won't have my reputation soiled by this."
"Is that what y'want us to put on your tombstone?" Tam Lin asks unhelpfully, at the same time Robin puts in a pert: "What reputation?"
Because Conrad is being villainized.
Crucified like Jesus, even, and just before the big guy's birthday.
"oh, shit."
neurons firing unexplainably, and not for the first time, it seems to conrad that this chore has always been expected of him, and he has no choice but to answer the call of duty. he starts marching toward the house.
"i hope we have spam." i'll fry the boy a nice spam, he decides. and then, he surmises, she'll have to respect me.
Robin shuffles with his sweatshirt —laughing into his sleeve, a little,— for a second before trotting along after his uncle with a bright amiable grin. Crisis averted! By creating another crisis, maybe, but whatever Conrad's about to do to the kitchen sounds like a Dad problem, not a Robbie problem, so. Cool.
"There's pork roll in the fridge," he offers helpfully.
( Helpful is definitely what he's being, here. No other words come to mind. )
emotional neglect didnt even affect me that much. it was the being born inherently without value that did most of the work

maybe auggie ought to hurl. (just to show doll a lesson. just to pay him back.) the shadows creep away and the boy steadies, palm pressed to wall. “ yeah, yeah, yeah. ” he responds factitiously. “ your precious shoes are safe. ”
he spoke ‘precious’ like it was a joke. since, yes, doll and his materialistic concerns are the joke.
"Good." His eyes narrow, but aside from a wryly acerbic undercurrent that probably would've been there anyhow, he doesn't acknowledge the dig out loud.
A hand curls in the pocket of his threadbare jacket, fingers fiddling absently with a loose seam, as he watches Auggie stop swaying. (Sway less, anyhow. )
"Fuckin' expensive, y'know."
clearing out old files. this is worthy of preservation.
"of course i don't think about it. i don't want to think about your dad in tights."
oh. maybe could've thought that joke through a little more. "there's tights under the armour." there better be.
"there are a lot of things we don't think about in this family," he goes on, resting an elbow on one knee, and his chin in his palm. "and i can see why you might think we can't ask about those same things. it was different -- i actually can't think of anything that could be more different, and i'm a vampire (or something) -- but maybe, if you talked about it, you might find some of it you can both relate to."
"Uh-huh."
The good (?) news for Conrad's clumsy humor is that Robin is not really particularly listening very much. He's staring at some middle distance, restless and distracted like he's replaying fairy tales in his head— It's hard not to wonder, sometimes. He knows... the thing is, Robin knows the kind of trouble he gets into isn't normal. Even if he can't help it, he knows it's weird fable-y misadventure stuff.
So sometimes he has to wonder whether he could kill someone ( or something, he guesses, ) if he really really had to. If it was important.
He thinks he couldn't.
"Uhhh, yeah." He notices, abruptly, that he's chewing the edge of a thumbnail, and scrubs his knuckles over a cheek and the bridge of his nose for a second while his brain scrambles to replay through some of whatever Conrad's been saying. "I know... I mean, I dunno."
After another couple seconds, his nose scrunches and he frowns down at his sneakers. "I know I can ask. I'm not a little kid."
“mhm,” a humorless grunt combusts in the pit of her throat, like she’s said it all to herself already. he was a handsome fella but god, she could practically taste the trouble.
“fuck, i had dreams once.” she stands by the coffee maker, watching it drip slow and hot, the same way her bitterness felt.
“whaddya’ think your daddy is doin’ right now?”
Yeah. He watches her watch the machine for a moment instead of saying so, but he'd had her pegged for somebody with dreams, once. ( Sorry, sweetheart, but there's a feel, and it ain't subtle. )
"Who knows." Who cares, right? His fingers tap against the counter for a second while he convinces himself he doesn't. "Found some other sucker to fleece, I guess."
Old man always had an eye for that. Only thing he ever really taught him, maybe.
"What about you?"
can someone recommend some beginner normal behaviors for someone looking to become normal
Zora is looking at him pretty skeptically, not sure what is going on with him. There's reasons to have a lot of doubts.
"..Yeah. I don't believe that - there has to be more to this. "
"Nope!" he insists, popping the P like a hiccup. "Just picked it up off the ground" ( That's technically true! ) "'cause it looked cool, and, umm, here we are. And have been! The whole time. Here."
That's a dirty lie. His face flushes, again. More.
Behind his back, the stone in his hands hums softly, like the low chirr of an insect. Robin twitches and gives Zora a big embarrassed smile. "...Having a really normal time."
