I love Italian imitative verbs for animal sounds! These are some:
miagolare (cats); ruggire (lions, tigers); belare (sheep); nitrire (horses); squittire (mice); crocchiare, gracchiare (crooks, ravens); muggire (cows, bulls, buffalos); ronzare, zillare (flying insects like bees and flies); frinire (grasshoppers); sibilare (snakes).
French Game of Thrones vocab list
by lucillestudies
I made this list just because I thought it would be fun, I love Game of Thrones, and I have started reading the book (I am halfway through the 2nd one). I wanted to give a big round of applause to the translator(s) who did an amazing job on the French version, especially in translating the name of the different places (honestly, the meaning is the same but they succeed in using some old words which just make the whole thing even more realistic).
Jeu de Trônes (direct translation) - Game of Thrones (Actual title: Le Trône de Fer)
Places
Hautjardin - Highgarden (direct translation)
Port-Réal - King’s Landing (”réal” is an adjective which means “royal” and “port” means… well, harbour.)
Lancehélion - Sunspear (”lance” is spear, and “hélion” comes from the greek “helios” which means sun, but it’s not actually a word in French. Sunspear indeed, but not directly, just etymologically)
Accalmie - Storm’s End (accalmie is indeed the word that describes the moment when a storm starts decreasing. I find this one particularly clever and poetic)
Peyredragon - Dragonstone (in occitan (a language from the south of France, “peyre” means stone)
Le Nord - The North (direct translation)
Vivesaigues - Riverrun (this one is tricky, “aigues” is an old word for “waters” and “vives” would roughly translate to “alive” or “lively”. This one is really cool because it does sound ancient and authentic)
Châteaunoir - Castle Black (direct translation)
Le Donjon Rouge - The Red Tower (donjon is actually a word for tower but more specifically the central tower of a castle where the lord and his family live)
Au-delà du Mur - Beyond the Wall (direct translation)
Les Cités Libres - The Free Cities (direct translation)
Les Îles de Fer - The Iron Islands (direct translation)
+ Daenerys du Typhon de la Maison Targaryen, Première du Nom, Reine de Meereen, Reine des Andals, de Rhoynar et des premiers hommes, Suzeraine des Sept Couronnes et Protecteur du Royaume, Khaleesi de la grande mer herbeuse, Mère des Dragons, L'Imbrûlée - Daenerys Stormborn of the House Targaryen, the First of Her Name, Queen of Meereen, Queen of the Andals, the Rhoynar, and the First Men, Lady Regnant of the Seven Kingdoms and Protector of the Realm, Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea, Mother of Dragons, The Unburnt (sorry i am not translating title by title, but they are in the same order so you’ll be able to find the corresponding title easily)

“La gente passa il suo tempo ad aspettare qualcosa. Aspetta tutta la settimana che arrivi il sabato, tutto l’anno che arrivi l’estate e tutta la vita che arrivi la felicità.”
Халява
(f., inan.) a freebie, something aquired for free; also a slang student term халя́ва (n), на халя́ву (used as an adverb) meaning “good luck at an exam that helps to pass the exam without knowing much or even pass the course without passing the exam (students who have studied well often are exempted from it)”. There is a student tradition вызывать халяву (to summon khaliava): at the night before the exam you open the window, wave your hand out of the window with your report card opened on the right page (ours is in a form of a book with a page for every semester’s exam marks) and yell “Халява, приди!” (”Come, khaliava!”) three times. After that you don’t open your report till you give it to your teacher to put the mark for your exam. Khaliava is yours :)
Don’t get me wrong I enjoy studying languages, but I wish I could just wake up speaking a language

Ok but real question tho, is there a specific way you should eat pizza in Italy? Like I know the swirly swirly thing for spaghetti but I'm not as sure when I comes to pizza? What are the pizza sins?
Okay so, first of all, you should know that pizzas in other parts of Italy that aren’t Naples are going to be really bad pizzas, which is sad because most tourists probably don’t know or realise that…
That being said, one of the most terrible pizza sins is eating it using a knife and fork. Etiquette be damned, Pizza was made to be eaten with your hands! You’re only allowed to use your cutlery to cut the pizza into slices (triangles starting from the centre); the actual eating happens with your hands! I would like to stress again that you have to cut your pizza into slices. Like this:
My ex-boyfriend (who was British) used to literally cut holes in the pizza and I honestly felt so uncomfortable… So don’t do that. You don’t want to look like some sort of uncultured Neanderthal visiting the city..
I’m attaching a cute Neapolitan video just because.
would we still be friends if I cut my pizza like this
No.
