Anarchy in the Asia-Pacific Region

Because anarchy isn’t about a bunch of old white dudes from over a century ago, I’m compiling a list of some anarchist works, texts, groups, and individuals from various places in the Asia-Pacific Region and their diaspora, some old and some that have emerged in recent years. This list is not definitive and will be updated over time as new groups and new sources emerge.

not to like use you as “hey Palestinian! educate me!” but you’re a vocal Palestinian who has an askbox and i dont know who/where else i could ask;

i know a lot of people speak about how being vocal for your support of Palestine is the best way to support right now when you cant do protests and riots and such. as a capital-P Punk i usually make patches and art to show on my clothing as solidarity, but i wasnt sure if that would be good or just “virtue signaling”.

thought it would be best to just ask someone who seems generally open to talking about this stuff rather than to just stay paralyzed out of fear of ignorance.

omg yes please do!!! make patches, make art, make things for palestine!!!!! it genuinely is comforting seeing that stuff. whenever i see someone in public with a palestine flag patch or sticker or something, it makes me feel safe!!! makes me feel comfortable around them. wearing patches or making art is one of the best ways to show us solidarity. it helps us feel more comfortable around you and makes us know we are safe. please do whatever you think is best to show your solidarity 🫶🫶

Like the popular narrative now is that we deserve to be murdered. A "Free Palestine" patch or a "End the Occupation" sticker is not lip service, it's an act that could get you arrested and jailed in multiple countries, like Germany, France, or Egypt. Normalizing siding with Palestinians is imperative right now, and it's doing a lot more than you think. 'Virtue signaling' is only when you don't back up your slogans with action.

the jury votes have never been so catastrophic i think. so many intelligent, well sung songs that got barely any points but sweden again? for real? for a song i will have forgotten in four months? i am still listening to Trenulețul. i will never forget moldova's entry from last year. i will never forget finland's cha cha cha. never. those songs will stay with me for a whole eternity. i called for slovenia, czechia and finland so many times, you deserved so much better <3

Changes we need to bring to 2024 Eurovision:

– Reduce jury votes: I get that eliminating them completely is not a possibility. The EBU wouldn't agree to that. However, maybe their importance should be lower. Make the vote 70% Public + 30% jury. In the end, people should be the ones selecting the winner, not a 5 person jury often selected in a non-transparent manner.

– Winners shouldn't be allowed to come back. And not only past winners, but also consolidated artists. Harry Styles shouldn't represent the UK nor Rosalía with Spain. They already have the spotlight. Past winners also had their moment and enjoyed the momentum. The opportunity should be offered to those who haven't tasted it yet.

– Israel shouldn't participate. This one is self-explanatory. It's hypocritical for the EBU to ban Russia from competing and not Israel. They should do better.

The thing that makes me sad about the Eurovision results is that Loreen’s victory lacks everything that makes a Eurovision victory great:

A lesser known artist catapulted into stardom? She’s been internationally known for years.

Their country getting a chance to host after never/rarely doing so before? Sweden’s had it 6 times already.

An underdog taking the crown by being an audience pleaser? She was the bookies’ favourite from the start.

Eurovision being one of the biggest, most exciting things they’ve ever done? She’s done it all before.

None of these things are personally Loreen’s fault, and I actually feel bad for her that this win will be remembered as one that the public clearly wanted to give to someone else. But it does all feel extra slimy and calculated on Sweden’s part, especially given the 50th anniversary of ABBA’s Waterloo just happening to be next year. It all feels very hollow.

Just a year or two ago Finns were saying that a Finnish language song would never do well at Eurovision because our language is too “weird” to foreigners, and now here is Käärijä proving them all wrong. The fans are going crazy for him and trying to memorize the Finnish lyrics so they can sing along. Cha Cha Cha winning the public vote really shows that it’s not about the language, it’s about the quality of the song. I love that nowadays more eurofans appreciate songs performed in national languages.

Käärijä wanted to prove that finland can win with a song in finnish language. and it really could have happened. he had a huge chance to prove how important performing in native language is to finland and to the rest of europe. instead they made boring plain pop song IN ENGLISH won. crime

Can we talk about how fucking bizarre it is that Israel did so well? Like obviously it's just a bad song - it's generic (& it says a lot that the bit that they replayed for voting was just her dancing, with no singing iirc). But also the audacity of "you stand there and call me names but I'm not your enemy" REALLY!?

the real eurovision are the juries we rigged along the way

this was a shadow win at best:

- the fact that it was a jury win and the public didn’t want this

- they kept mentioning abba’s 50th anniversary, which lowkey made this seem planned

- this was the second highest number of televotes ever received and still the jury votes solved this

- the points werw nowhere near Loreen’s score with ”euphoria” …THIS WAS ABOUT LESS THAN 60 POINTS

- you could literally hear the audience chanting for ”cha cha cha” and käärijä

- in conclusion: i’m a pissed off fin and i thought käärijä deserved to win
