It was evening when she returned to her apartment, the door unlocked as usual. She wasn’t sure what time it was, and she honestly didn’t care. It was more relaxing to go out at night when it was quiet…even though sometimes she felt like it would drive her mad.
She grunted as she shut the door behind her, kicking off her sandals and stepping into the room. Then she paused. The television was on. She may have been lazy, but she was pretty sure she’d never once used that TV. She also knew she hadn’t stepped into the wrong apartment by mistake. She was apathetic, but not careless.
One arm slid behind her, reaching into her obi and grasping the hilt of her knife as she moved further into the apartment. There was an unfamiliar figure seated on the couch, happily watching away. She vaguely recalled something about having a roommate, refusing to acknowledge the craziness the letter seemed to imply.
“Oi….I thought I already took out the trash. What are you doing in here?”
After settling into his new apartment with relative ease, as he carried so few belongings, Nagito Komaeda decided to turn on the TV and relax on the sofa. The decision had been innocent enough. He had just wanted something simple to occupy his mind, preferably something that carried little risk of complications. There were no books around, and he wasn't inclined to go out at the moment to find some just to curb his boredom, so the TV naturally seemed to be the best choice. He just hadn't accounted for one thing: his roommate.
He knew he had one, and he even knew her name was Shiki Ryougi or something. But he couldn't have anticipated her agitated state that led to her being… well, openly hostile as she entered the room. Had she really not known that he'd be showing up today? Or maybe she just didn't want one at all, and seeing him there irritated her.
“I'm your new roommate,” he said, offering a kind enough smile as he introduced himself, “Nagito Komaeda. Well, honestly, it's not like I wanted something like a roommate in the first place. I mean, someone like me… I'd be much better off in a room by myself where I couldn't bother anyone! I was just kinda put here, though, and there didn't seem to be much I could do about it.” He let out a weary sigh, then lifted his shoulders in a half-shrug. “But I'm sure it'll be fine. I mean, I won't get in your way or anything! In fact, it'll almost be like I'm not even here most of the time.”
Unlucky Circumstances | Gundham & Nagito
It wasn’t every day that there was a loud noise that rose above the usual bustle of the city. Voices and hurried footsteps prevailed on most other days, people going to and fro for whatever reason. Today seemed to be an exception unfortunately. The noise itself was definitely something no one really wanted to hear in the middle of town.
It was loud squealing tires followed by the sound of a body crumpling onto the asphalt.
A small crowd had convened around the scene, though none of the onlookers hung around for long, having better places to be than congregated around the pale-haired victim. Gundham himself didn’t have any other places to be and felt some strange desire to check on the boy. He was a familiar face.
“Nagito. Are you alright?” he asked after confirming the victim. He couldn’t say he was surprised to find that Nagito had been hit by a car; he always did have some unfortunate things happen to him.
One moment, the day had been peaceful. The sky overhead stretched clear and blue and the city moved as it was wont, with the usual comfortable hustle and bustle of people moving about their lives. There was even pleasant little breeze moving through. But of course that couldn't last. It could never last. The next moment, Nagito Komaeda found himself sprawling to the ground rather abruptly, a winded “Oof!” pushed from his lungs the instant he made contact with the hard pavement. The world fell silent, drowned out by the sharp ringing suddenly occupying his ears, as the hapless victim lay there, too shocked to move.
Other sounds quickly began to pierce through the haze as the ringing diminished, and he opened his eyes, blinking until the blurred vision he was met with focused into a clearer picture. It seemed that a small crowd had gathered around the scene, murmuring amongst themselves, though none stepped forward. Regardless, Nagito managed to sit up. The abrupt movement sent pain lancing through his right side, into his chest, making him suck in his breath. Looking down, he could see blood already soaking through his shirt. It was bleeding, but the wound seemed to be fairly shallow. He might not even need to get it stitched up, if he was lucky. And… wasn't he? Well, he was supposed to be, at least, though it so often seemed to be the opposite.
Just what had happened, anyway? The road had been as clear as the sky before he'd started crossing, he had made sure to check. Hadn't he? Actually, as he tried to recall the events leading up to now, he found his memory blurry and hard to distinguish. How hard had he hit his head in the fall? Regardless, those were definitely tire tracks he saw, giving off the stench of burnt rubber, though the car that had left them was long gone from the site, it seemed.
He didn't have much time to dwell on it, however, before a familiar, scarf-clad figure sauntered into view among the dispersing crowd. Without a doubt, Gundham Tanaka. But what was someone like him doing here in the first place? What a strange, somewhat unsettling turn of events.
“It seems I'm fine,” he responded, and moved to finally rise to his feet again. He staggered slightly as the movement wrought pain anew, making him feel momentarily light-headed. “Actually, I wasn't even hit directly. It looks like the car swerved to avoid me, so I was really only grazed, isn't that lucky?” With how hard the car had hit him with just a graze, if he had been hit dead-on, chances were that Nagito wouldn't be breathing. But could something like this really be considered good luck? He was still alive, but… Well, it was a hard distinction to draw sometimes.
“I'm surprised, though. To think that someone like you, the Ultimate Breeder, would show up here, of all places! How… strange. I thought I'd left you all behind when I came here, but you're standing right here anyways. Is this bad luck?”
Oh no! || Agnes and Nagito
She was lost. She was always, always lost. No matter what she did, she couldn’t avoid her terrible sense of direction. Where was she this time? There was no way of telling. It was getting dark, and there was only one person nearby. A boy lingered nearby, and she felt as if she had no other choice but to ask for assistance. If she didn’t….
“Excuse me, do you maybe know where we are?”
Of course, it was just like Nagito's luck for him to wind up unwittingly lost in the town. Well, he'd only expected that his luck would act up sooner rather than later, and, all things considered, this was rather tame for how bad it could have been. Just a minor inconvenience, and those had only become the norm for his everyday life by this point. Well, unfortunately, that also meant that something else awful was still due for him, and he didn't know when or where to expect it to strike. The thought, as always, sent an anticipatory chill crawling up his spine.
He shunted aside the thought, preferring not to think too hard about all the things that could go devastatingly wrong, and instead shifted his focus onto his surroundings. As long as he could discern his whereabouts… or at least get an idea on where to start walking… well, maybe he could just find his way back to relative safety before anything really bad happened. And, truth be told, getting lost wasn't so bad. Certainly, it wasn't something he wanted, but it did provide a rather good opportunity to expand his knowledge on the place. Nagito wasn't going to go so far as to say that he was grateful for this chance; he just appreciated that it wasn't anything he couldn't handle. However, the more he contemplated his surroundings, the more he realised that he really, truly was lost, without even the slightest clue on where to go. He hadn't meant to stray far from the building his apartment was in, but now he couldn't even spot anything he could recognise from the neighbourhood. He let out a sigh then. Perhaps his best bet was to simply pick a direction and start walking. Odds were actually in his favour if he did that, after all. His luck was… well, not that great of an “ability”, honestly, but it could be helpful at times.
Before he could actually move, however, a voice called out to him, giving him pause as he turned to look at the girl nearby. She seemed to be just as lost as he, and maybe frightened. Well, that was probably just to be expected, as night would soon be falling, plunging them into darkness. She probably had to get home and had thought that he might be familiar with the area.
“Sorry, I'm lost, too. I was just trying to get back to my apartment, but it seems I took a wrong turn somewhere. Nothing around here looks familiar at all, so I honestly have no idea where this even is.”
