“Yeah, we’re best friends. Why?”
“I met you at the beach party,” Nala said. “You were in a wheel chair. And I think a little loopy from your pain meds. I’m Nala.”
“I’ll give you hand, it’ll be easier if you have me helping push you in there. I can even throw you overboard if you want.”
“O-oh no, that won’t be necessary. I can handle m-myself.”
“Did you not have it already?”
“Um... No?”
“I hope you know I’m not carrying it for you.”
“What? N-no, I-- ...Hey, aren’t you Mittens’ friend?”
“What bag? For what?”
“O-oh, you know. To make sure all of my s-stuff is still in it and such. Don’t want any of my th-things going m-m-missing.”
“I can help!”
“O-o-oh, um... OK. I think the bags are this way...”
“Um, okay? I’ll wait here then.”
“Oh! I’m sorry, that was rude. D-do you want t-t-to come with?”
“ Didn’t you do that just a few minutes ago ? “
“Wha-- Um, yes. But I didn’t have a chance to check to make sure everything I have is still in there... So... yeah...”
“Do you think it’ll seem less like ocean at night?” Mittens asked, actually curious. “I suppose if it’s dark and I can’t see the water… that might be a nice time to go outside. Rey isn’t afraid of anything, that brave girl.”
“It defintiely won’t look like water,” Nala said. “The stars will reflect off of the water. It’ll look like we’re in space! Surrounded by nothing but beautiful glowing stars. Rey could probably tell us all about them, and Dean could make weird, crude jokes. Groot could probably tell us some cool stories... And I can be your stress blanket. You can squeeze my arm any time you feel overwhelmed.”
Vixey’s face grew whiter as she let out an awkward chuckle. She had to keep a brave face for her friend. “Well… uh… maybe we’ll meet Leo Decaprio. That wouldn’t be too bad, right?” She smiled nervously.
“Leo, huh...? Well, I guess that would be worth the trip then,” Nala said, forcing a smile. “Honestly, I’m not all that worried. But it’s understandable to be curious. Right?”
“He’s my cousin apparently. Family or not, I don’t owe it to him or his parents to come back. I’d be doing them a favor by going somewhere else after college anyways. Families and I don’t mix well.” He almost told her he just couldn’t belong in one but didn’t. It was a little too personal. “Everyone where you’re from hate you too?”
“At least you have people, though,” Nala said. “And I’m sure they’d be willing to help you if you truly ever needed it.” Nala bit the inside of her cheek when Stitch asked his question. “Sort of... No one hates me, but no one really wants me around. My mother and I haven’t talked in years, I don’t know my father, and I’ve never met any of my other family if there is any. M-my boyfri-- ex-boyfriend up and left without a word a year ago... The only person I have left back home is my ex’s mother, and I think even she is growing tired of me.”
“The wonder of space, I guess. Can you see it, that bright light. Far, far away, in the darkness of space, surrounded by millions and millions of stars. I used to watch the sky, it helped me sleep when I was little.”
“Wow... That’s incredible,” Nala said, feeling breathless as she looked at the sky. “How often does this happen? Is it one of those once every thousands of years sort of thing?”
“It’s kind of useless because ah can onleh use it in Scotland. Even Ireland has a different version of it. If yer plannin’ on learnin’ another language, don’ pick Gaelic.” Hubert said with a snort.
“I’ll keep that in mind,” Nala said with a small laugh. “I was thinking of learning Spanish or German. Probably much easier than Gaelic.”
Kylo tilted his head, expression incredulous. Surely she was joking. “Are you being serious, or is it your intent to pester me?”
“N-n-no I... i-it was a genuine question...”
“Yeah, they always say these things will be safe… I’m claustrophobic too, which doesn’t help with being stuck on a boat unable to leave. I’m going to live in the dining room.”
“Oh goodess, this trip is not going to be fun for you.” Nala said. “How about... we sneak out after curfew on the ship. We’ll go hide somewhere on the deck until morning so you still feel out in the open? You’re clever, so I’m sure you can find a place for us to hide. Rey can come too! And you’re brothers.”
“If I see one I’ll make sure I warn you right after the captain,” she jokes.
“I guess we’ll both be on the look out then!”
